Use this extension: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bitcointalk-extension-all-in-one-available-on-chrome-store-version-25-5178297

It's best one I have found so far. 'Use dark 3' preset if you want light blue with black.

Choosing blue as a default color will be misleading for many, especially since the eye is used to the current colors, and the night/dark mode is easy on many platforms.
If you haven't tried one of these additions/userscripts, try it.

You can also give more ideas about colors and improve the forum in the new version of it, which is currently being developed. Check out https://coinbistro.com/boards.

TBH, I've kind come to like the default SMF theme lol.

Anything else would feel weird to me for BitcoinTalk.

Like others have mentioned, there are plenty of extensions to apply custom CSS to change the theme colours. You could even look around the forum & find custom stylesheets for this. Won't take you more than 5 minutes. I'm not sure Theymos really sees this as high demand to implement globally. I don't know if many people really have complaints over the look of BTCTalk as of now. It's kind of nostalgic for most people.

Hmm, It is right that it would be better if there is any button to change the theme to dark mode by one click and change again the theme to normal by one click. But I personally think this theme is the best to read and easily visible signature code and banner. I also visited a few forum which is using another theme but I never feel good as like as this forum. This simple machine is best for this forum than any other stylis theme IMO.

Forum site can be much, much better, so I will share one idea free of charge, as the giveaway.
The idea is - forum font colour is light blue, but much better would be, if forum members and visitors can switch it to dark mode too ( at evenings and nights, for example ). For example, like some software font, Iobit Driver Booster etc.

If the default font color is blue or light blue, it would be very terrible for users' eyes. Let's see how annoying your post will be with all texts are painted with blue color.

That level of annoyance is only for your post so you would imagine how much more annoying if all texts in all posts on the forum will be painted with blue.

I have been doing this for years with Stylus (a free from ads stylish fork). This is an addon for both chromium and firefox based browsers.

It is a matter of accessibility. It would be great if more sites were mindful of the needs for non bright background alternative themes, but too many sites don't care. Using Stylus, i can enforce (css) styles when needed on all sites (global) or on specific sites.

Some people have even made styles specifically for bitcointalk, one of them is called "Nex Dark theme", i'm using it right now and it seems to work well.

Traditionally forums used to provide at least a couple of themes users could choose from but this is a largely ignored feature, they usually stick to a single too bright theme.

Its funny that something like Youtube took so long to understand the importance of this. Watching videos with bright white around it is a giant no-no. Unfortunately Youtube made the option available only to Chromium based browsers, nothing Stylus cannot cure...

Of course you can also make your own style and share it with others. There are no limits on the things you can do, so long as its css. I don't particularly care about the fonts, but colors i do. Oh did i mention that you can even use multiple styles? There is a certain "bug" when using a dark GTK theme which is also cured by Stylish (No more black text on black input boxe [dark GTK]).

As per popular request, I made a dark version of the current CSS on bitcointalk(I'll do the mobile CSS too if there's interest).
If you have any ideas or suggestions, I'd be happy to tweak and improve the current design.

Code here.

If you are using Brave or any other chrome based browser you can do one small trick to enable dark theme
without installing any script or extension.

How to do it?
- Simply enter this in your browser address bar and Enable Force Dark Mode for Web Contents:

chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark

There is several options to choose and experiment with, and you can always return to Default option.

Unfortunately there is nothing to enjoy, because not all dark theme switch addons for Chrome or Firefox or other browser works well. I tested them for Firefox, and switch addons do not work well. The best way is switch in the webpage, plus many people do not use Chrome or Firefox, but use also other browsers, like Internet Explorer, Palemoon etc.

Enjoy!
