I'm pretty sure there's a way to use the device without registering, but that's their main hook, right?

I just reset my old KeepKey, and attempted (successfully) to initialize it with Electrum, so there is a way to use it without registering for ShapeShift.  There's also the Chrome extension which is how it worked before the merger of ShapeShift and KeepKey.  That still works to initialize and use the wallet.

Link to the KeepKey extension in the google app store:

ShapeShift has two websites (I've never used either) shapeshift.io and shapeshift.com.  I think the .io site is not available to US residents, due to AML laws, but I believe shapeshift.com is available.  I may have that backwards, I haven't scrutinized their terms of service, but I believe it's all laid out in there.

I think the free shipping feature is only available for US.
Whah?  US residents can't even register with ShapeShift as far as I know.  That's why my Keepkey is being used as a paper weight instead of holding crypto.  That's why I haven't used ShapeShift in well over a year.  I'm pretty sure there's a way to use the device without registering, but that's their main hook, right?

Whether you can or will actually use the Keepkey, I'd take one if it was offered for no cost.  I regret buying the one I have, but at least it didn't cost me that much.  Wish I'd known about the ShapeShift thing before hand, but whatever.

New users are given 100 FOX tokens and a 50% discount when accessing beta.shapeshift.com so they can buy KeepKey for $24.50.
Don't know what FOX tokens are, but free is free, right?  And that's a pretty good deal for a hardware wallet.  The Keepkey is a pretty sleek looking device, too.  I was never crazy about the shape of the Trezor, but I suppose that's very low on the importance scale when looking for a hardware wallet.

Shipping: Free shipping within the United States. If shipping internationally, the shipping recipient could be subject to import duty and taxes.

ShapeShift & KYC centralized. It's like Blockchain.com that is paying using useless tokens or them devices in exchange for showing your data.

What is the value of the coupon code sent to you, is it a full or partial discount?

I stopped using ShapeShift since the problems of banning some IPs from some countries.

Wait, 100% free? (including shipping?).

Correct.

This line confused me.
Shipping is also free, so the price is definitely affordable.  Wink

Just me being a smartass, get used to it.

I'm registered on Shapeshift but I didn't receive anything (However, I didn't complete KYC).

Neither did I.  I used my simi-anonymous email addresses to register which is where I found the offer, maybe you did the same?

Maybe you can donate it as you already got one? Roll Eyes

I just got an email from ShapeShift with a coupon code for a free KeepKey Hardware Wallet.  I think the offer is only open to those who've already registered with the ShapeShift exchange service, but if you've been considering getting one it might be worth looking into whether they're available for new registrants.

I don't think that new users are eligible. New users are given 100 FOX tokens and a 50% discount when accessing beta.shapeshift.com so they can buy KeepKey for $24.50. One can never have too many hardware wallets. I would order it and compare it with my Nano X, Trezor One and T if had an account there.

This line confused me.

Doesn't it mean 'Why not get one if it's for free'?

I already own a KeepKey and I'm not particularly thrilled with it.  The Pin feature is limited, making it slightly less secure than a Trezor or a Ledger.  It does, however support Bip39 seed phrases and passphrases, so it could be used as a back-up to your other hardware wallets.

The Chrome extension only supports legacy addresses (for receiving, it can send to Bech32 and nested segwit addresses,) but that can be overcome if you use it with Electrum.  I've never used mine with ShapeShift's web interface, so I don't know if this limitation exists with that interface.

Anyway, if you qualify to get a free one, I don't know why you wouldn't.  Shipping is also free, so the price is definitely affordable.  Wink
