I really recommend you build up your trust. I have a pretty decent trust feedback and out of the few months I've been offering escrow, I've only escrowed for 2 deals and 1 signature campaign contest.
But you need to build your trust from nothing. He just want to start. And you already want him to be trusted with green numbers all over him. All escrows started without trust at all. Just give him a chance.

Majority of the agents I know have started a service as of their trust. It's rather you have a decent trust feedback score or you build it then start. I offered when I was a full member with no trust at all. I got told the same points above.
It is obvious. That it would be the best if he started as a hero/legendary user with years spent on this forum. But his 'member' status is not a reason to doubt him.

No its not, he could be the next Vod.  All I'm saying is that it's advisable for him to get some credibility first.
Good luck with your venture!

OP's escrow service might work well for smaller amounts but for larger amounts or for more complex escrow deals, someone with a bit more trust and trade history as well as a higher rank would be preferable. There are escrow providers out there who have been on these forums for many years with dozens of successful trades under their belt and still charge a 0% fee.

And being an escrow can be hard sometimes. redsn0w was a great escrow but there was one deal which came very close to turning sour because he forgot to change the email address of the account that was given to him as part of the collateral to one that was under his control.

On a more positive note, there have been cases of members with zero trust who were excellent escrows too. For example, Carra23 managed the Cryptomine.io sig campaign and escrowed 7 BTC of funds for sig payments and he did his job absolutely perfectly and got lots of positive trust by the end of it. However, he was also a hero member at the time too which probably helps:

Thanks for the comments.

Makes me wonder: "Is there a sticky for 'how to provide escrow services'"?

Master P, has your name all over it!

Oh, and I have no need for trading or loaning. I have what I need right now. Unless I were purposefully taking out short loans to repay quickly just to build trust, which is a bit... well, untrustworthy, that is.

Like the others who tried to do free escrow services but they didn't stand out because they're lacking some trading or business transactions in the forum. People can't trust their assets with users who don't have much reputation..

you will get neg rep normally looking for reputation loans. im pretty sure i read that is frowned upon here. yes i see you said its kind of untrustworthy. as commented earlier just build your rep and stay outta shady business and youll eventually have a decent enough rep to offer ecrow services.

This is the section where people are looking for loans, so I thought this the right place. Mods, please go ahead and move to correct section.

Fair question. I only have one trade for alt coins with a member under my belt. My account has been open a few years, if that's anything. I suppose you'd have to trust me. Even the "free and trusted providers" started somewhere, right? This is an opportunity for me to get involved with my research first-hand. While not an objective position, I am the one writing the paper, so I don't believe it adds any further bias.

You should try to build a reputation first by actively participating in the marketplace here on these forums. Doing trades, sales, etc to build up a reputation. I checked your trust ratings and you only have a single positive review from another member and nothing else. For anyone else to trust you as a neutral third party to hold any amount of funds you should at least have the reputation to show for it.

Now, I am not saying you're not reliable or trustworthy but it will be a lot easier once you've established yourself here. With little to zero trading history, not many people will trust you with their funds regardless of your forum rank.

Also, this seems to be posted in the wrong section. You should have this moved to the Services section here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=52.0

This should be in services.

Ignoring the fact that this is misfiled, you do not have enough trading experience to be offering escrow services. Your lack of trading experience means that there is no real reason why people would trust you enough not to scam both parties

why would we pick you if there are free and trusted escrow providers?

this is not also in the right section

Hi, All!

I'm a comp sci PhD student who got started with BTC a few years ago. I'm looking for topics for a thesis and believe BitCoins and the system of trust and anonymity are rather intriguing. I've read a few papers and countless threads on the topic, but nothing like what I'm thinking about.

I'm offering my services as an escrow agent to see first-hand how sales and trades are accomplished. If anyone is in need of a free escrow service please PM me and drop a note on this thread. I'll be checking messages daily. As university isn't free, tips are appreciated but by no means required.

Thanks!
