If the microwave is sound and effective will it only be able to block calls from entering the phone?
How about keeping the phone inside the microwave and making use of it as hotspot which will give your other gadgets service for browsing will the microwave allow that too?
If yes then that will be a perfect way of converting my old gadget to Wi-Fi and don’t have to worry about calls distributing the network.

This is very interesting and something I didn't know until now. Makes me wonder if I should be keeping old microwaves to be using as faraday cages. Thanks for sharing this. Learned my something new for today.

If your cell phone rings the microwave is defective and is leaking microwave energy.
Once you test it :
REMEMBER TO REMOVE YOUR PHONE
If the phone rang inside you need a new microwave or you need to stay at least 12 feet away from it if you use it.
I am curious to see if you do the test what your results were.
All of my phones did not ring.
4g LTE or 5g were blocked by the microwave's faraday shields.
