With the way the world is revolving things are beginig to change either to please or displease us. Most times we are forced and deprived of this our freedom of expression as a result of specific rules implemented by the government and this same set of government we choose them ourselves. All we have to do is to keep mute at some certain levels and stick to the rules given in oder to avoid the penalties of breaking any.
Sometimes we have to compromise our beliefs the way we display them outwardly and preserves the inner self expression to ourselves just to avoid certain punishments

The digital world has changed society's paradigm and people are also required to be able to master technology, but if society's challenges are not ready to accept the changes, they will be affected by negative things because there are no boundaries at all in the digital world, even though there is distance between countries, so there are countries make strict rules to maintain this and freedom of expression also has limits, otherwise it will always be a threat among the wider community

Freedom has to operate within the boundaries of the law. If freedom will violate the law then it should not be practiced.
The law has to be Just/good so that freedom doesn't create problems for the society it's practiced in, and so that freedom to do right is not limited.

Freedom is limited to some certain things in the society or a nation be it in terms of speech, association etc, there are level to which freedom can operate anything  freedom that is going against the norm or policy of the society,  that is why one exercising freedom  must try as much as possible not to go contrary to the government policy that will kick against such freedom to avoid running into danger of the government.

You both are right. Many people talk about freedom of speech and freedom of expression without understanding that there are certain restrictions to how we can express ourselves. Considering how corrupt some leaders can be, you will be saving yourself from serious issues if you take out time to really understand the laws of your country so as to avoid being used as a scapegoat. Many people ignorantly infringe on the rights of others and promote hate speeches on any government they don't like yet they claim it's freedom of expression. While expressing yourself, be sure you are fighting for a just cause that is not influenced my personal sentiments.

What is the meaning of freedom of expression?
Freedom of expression is one of the basic human rights that allows an individual to express his ideas and beliefs freely without infringing on the rights of others or spreading false propaganda and hatred.
This right is guaranteed by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 and the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen of 1789 in France.
BUT
We all know that freedom of expression is very limited in third world countries, and when any statement is hostile to rulers, you put your freedom and life at risk, unlike developed countries, but we have noticed recently the lack of respect for freedom of expression by these countries
Example:
- player suspended and menaced by thier team after showing support to palestine
And the suppression of peaceful Manifestation that support Palestine
- Attacks and threats to people who do not support homosexuality.
Is this considered a suppression of freedom of expression?
Is democracy a dress for dictatorship only?

Freedom of expression is one of the major factors that characterized democartic government .it is one of the fundamental human rights that gives An individual the right To express his or her self sometimes ,it is often called freedom of speech. But in most political Settings where bad governance ia the order of the day ,freedom of speech is neglectwd And sometimes when you Force yourself out To speak the truth they will tag it hate speech because the leader’s have placed some unwanted laws that they Dont want people To speak on especially when they are embezzling government funds.

Moreso, freedom of expression is practiced more in a well developed countries where fundamental human rights are respected And put into consideration . Where the right of the citizens are their major priority And not in a developing country where the leaders are money mongers And has no value for the constitution , they lack Respect for her citizens And considers every of their truth as hate speech .

Freedom of expression is a principle that supports the freedom of an individual or a community to articulate their opinions and ideas without fear of retaliation, censorship, or legal sanction.
This includes political speach, views on religion, opinions and expressions that are favourably received or regarded as inoffensive, but also those that may offend , shock or disturb others.
We have the right to say what we think, share information and demand a better world. We also have the right to agree or disagree with those in power, and to express these opinions in peaceful protests.
Note: exercising these rights without fear or unlawful interference is Central to living in an open and fair society; one in which people can access justice and enjoy their human rights.

When looking at the fundamental human right it’s what makes a country a democratic system where by the state all it citizens to engage in freedoms of speech to be able to voice out.thats why we even have a system where by citizens comes outs to protest and it’s allow.due to freedom of expression and should not be deprived from any citizen in a democratic society.
We could have the freedom to express ourselves but we should always be careful how we go about that.
The laws would always come for us if we uses our mouth to fight people in the wrong way which we don't ought to.
Some in people though there is freedom of speech everywhere and they ended up talking anyhow without evidence which later resulted them to prison for the wrong saying. We need to be wise and know how we compose our words or else we would pay for it.

Freedom of expression is a fundamental right of an individual to express his opinion freely. The right to say what you want do what you want and create what you want without fear of censure by the government for expressing yourself. Rights prevent the government from persecuting you for your expression. It doesn't stop the person from resenting what you're doing. In fact it gives them the right to do so.

Freedom of speech exists for everyone.  Everyone can express their opinion.A man or a nation has the right to say both good and bad.And how to accept it also depends on other people and their psychology.I expressed an opinion but the person in front of me could not accept it he could freely express it.We should respect everyone's opinion.By giving importance to everyone's opinion, we can achieve world peace.Make decisions you don't like and you can express that.

I agree, and all is just a matter of respect. Anyone are free to speak of their own, but see to it that not all people are ready to hear those nor be able to understand what you are trying to say so you may feel you are not being heard or understood.

Social media made it easy for anyone. You can easily make reels, post, or a thread of any issue that you want the masses to be aware of. Being allowed to speak is not suppressed.

It is the ability of other people to open their views is the thing that was suppressed. They are programmed to other views as bad. Most people only listen to news, or people in government position. Yet those people hide facts and truth behind their power.

True, in certain countries, particularly in regions that are developing, the right to free speech is frequently neglected; nevertheless, consider the equilibrium between free expression and the preservation of other rights, such as the right to fairness and equality without discrimination. It's a difficult question, with no simple answer. However, I believe it is an essential matter to think about, particularly given the world's expanding interconnection. In today's international environment, we must find a method to defend everyone's rights, especially the right to free expression.
People have the right to peacefully demonstrate and express their thoughts without fear of punishment, but some argue that certain restrictions are required to preserve the rights of others.

Freedom of expression is the ability of individuals to freely share their thoughts or ideas without fear, and by doing so, it allows us to also learn and grow more in wisdom without feeling intimated, but in our society today, there is no freedom of expression again, whatever feelings we have or want to share, we keep it to ourselves to avoid problems or being beaten or killed, we think twice before saying anything or expressing our feelings because we don't have to say it again, even if we say something or express how we feel in this country, our leaders will continue to do whatever they want, so what is the point of expressing ourselves if it will not bring any positive results?

Anyone can freely express their opinions but they must also be accountable on it.  Moreover, freedom of expression is different from fake news or propaganda spreading.  You cannot state a lie or fake news then spread it somewhere then say that it is freedom of expression.  Note that freedom of expression is bounded by the law of the country you are residing.  Historical revisionism, fake news, slander, and other things about breaking the law cannot be masked by freedom of expression.
Some People abuse the freedom of speech,  because of they have right to say whatever they feel they can just come up with anything.  We need to be very careful and not be carried away by this freedom of speech because their are somethings you say the law won't tolerate with you . Normally 8n many places goverment will tell you their is freedom of speech but their something you say , if it doesn't go well for them they will definitely come for you.

This is what many people are facing at this time, though this has been in existence for a very long time but it is on a rise in political era where a leader decides to do whatever he or she chooses to do without seeking the opinion of any person, the freedom of speech that was common, critics that push the political office holders to perform well in office is no more wanted because they politicians wants to enslave everyone by introducing what the called hate speech, using this method to shut the mouth of people up, so that people will be afraid to air out their views because of the penalties attached, it is only in the western world where freedom of speech is been allowed to an extent but in African countries is no no, to me I think most African countries are not riped for independence, the inhumane character in African leaders is much, we really need sanitization to get it right in Africa.
In a case like this, since our opinions doesn't matter to the authority, till we experience any significant positive changes we just have to stick by the laid rules. Likely said, I don't think we practice democracy as we say we do, every action from the government are not carried out with the aim interest of the citizens instead they want a cut out of the benefits. The voices of the masses are not heard, each time anyone trys to speak his being shut up, how then can we experience a change. We just closely pray and hope in dew time things will change for good.

^^^ The question is, who is one accountable to? After all, maybe the accountability judges are wrong.

So, say it right out. The best basic laws are found in the Bible... particularly Old Testament Exodus and Deuteronomy... and the New Testament writings of St. Paul. And the Judge is God, Himself.

It may be that the loophole in freedom causes many ungodly men to abuse it and use this advantage to argue, I respect all those rights, but that doesn't mean they are always discussed openly. The fact that anyone can say that it is a personal right means that our obligations and responsibilities towards that right have never been easy.

Everyone wants freedom, but they don't understand that no one gives them that freedom that they themselves create, and their obligation to use and contribute to life is always not enough. I always like to be realistic and fair, anyone's thoughts can be created with ignorance, and if that thought is not limited, then chaos is obvious.

For example: If a rebel declares that he wants to destroy the earth, in some ways it is freedom of speech, but we know clearly that it is wrong, so they must be held accountable for those words.

Freedom of speech has always been the right of every citizens, everyone is allowed to express their opinion and thought towards something but now things have changed, we can't speech freely fear of the government, or what if someone is hearing.
In most countries a lot of people get killed just because of their speech against the government, against the society.
So in this case people are force to control their speech most especially the civil servants, government workers cause if they speak bad against the government they'll be sack from their job, so in my opinion the government are responsible when it comes to limitation of speech, cause when everyone keeps fearing the government then they're the issue.

Though I do not completely share the same position as you, I can agree with you say the government or the established powers are those who are mainly responsible for the lack of free speech and responsibly for the punishments against those who want to speak freely about topics which are very sensitive to those same established powers.
One only needs to take a look at countries like Saudi Arabia or even Venezuela.
One could easily end up in prison for either saying something against the Sharia law or against the corrupt politicians from any Republic in decadence.

When those in positions of power start to censor one's speech it may be just the beginning of an escalation towards a more authoritarian way of living.

Freedom of expression is indeed a fundamental human right and an essential component of a democratic society. Without it democracy cannot function properly and a fair and just society cannot be achieved. Although there may be instances where freedom of expression is abused, in a democracy, it should be responsibly preserved and restrictions and regulations should be put in place as necessary. In a democratic society, it is the duty of government and good governance to uphold and value freedom of expression. The development of a supportive and unbiased media requires input from the public and the establishment of policies and boundaries in a fair and unbiased manner. Therefore, it is essential to prioritize and protect freedom of expression in order to build and maintain a democratic society that respects freedom of thought, opinion and expression. It is a fundamental criterion for the functioning and prosperity of a democratic society.

One of the factors that characterized democratic government is fundamental human right which freedom of speech is one of them , It is an idea where an individual is free To speak his or her mind concerning a particular problem But this only happens in the developed countries .

In most developing countries freedom of speech To me is just a mere formality To fill in a vacant SPACE in the constitution because fundamental human rights are not respected , citizens are been molested for saying the truth or even when an individual comes out To advocate for freedom the Person will be arrested And detained for no just cause .most of these developing countries do not know the value of Law And as such they do not Respect the content of the constitution instead they will turn the terms of the constitution To their Favour . Most times just To purnish a poor citizen they will tag Some speeches To be hate speech in other To restrict or limit people from saying their views in a particular senario . However, i know that freedom of expression is a fundamental human rights But before you make a speech publicly please be very conscious of people around you if you are not in a developed country .

The truth is that in most countries they include freedom of expression as part of their law but the truth is that freedom of expression is a law that tge common people don't even practice in most countries expecially in the developing countries.  In developing countries the government intimidates the common citizens by making them not to be able to express their feelings,  they threating them of dealing with them when common citizens confront them.

Freedom of expression only exists if you expression doesn't cross politicians' interests. If it crosses them, then your so called freedom of expression will quickly be suppressed. But there is a difference between European countries and some islamic countries when it comes to freedom, there is a big difference but overall, they all become brutal when you act against their own political interests.

We all know that freedom of expression is very limited in third world countries, and when any statement is hostile to rulers, you put your freedom and life at risk, unlike developed countries, but we have noticed recently the lack of respect for freedom of expression by these countries

Double standards as always. If you do not support something supported by the government, they'll call you many bad things and your freedom of expression dies because as they say, you disrespect homosexuals if you don't support them but no one talks that in Christian country, homos also disrespect Christianity. Double Standards!

In my view, a pacific protest in support for a pacific resolution of the conflicts in Palestina - be it in support of Palestine - is absolutely acceptable. A protest in support of Palestine in which there is also support for Hamas, Hezbola or other organisations which clearly do not want any pacific resolution of conflicts is not acceptable.

Attacking people who do not support homosexuality is not acceptable -  as long as these people act pacifically and do not try to impose on others their point of view.

In other words, freedom of expression is a two way street, not an absolute.

If it's your country of origin where you cannot express your freedom of speech, because you have a dictator as leader, if you don't have the resources to leave the country or for legal battles, then it's wisest to remain low key. Because if the authority decides to deal with the person, and he doesn't have a strong backing, it'll be a pity because his rights will further be trampled on. Except the person wants to be brave and face the consequences of going against the authority. Abuse of rights and privileges is to be expected in any society, some out of ignorance or in full knowledge will break the law. In cases like that the law should be judiciously applied to chastise them.
The world is full with ditectors as leaders and a lot have pushed the citizens to remain on the low key just like you mentioned,  but then also remaining low key also have it own price and that is you as a citizen will have to endure a lot of things being low key and at that you have to be ready to bear all the pains and endure every wrong doing to you as a citizen.

Can one person face the government or it bad leaders?

The answer is hard to say either yes or know because you may not be certain of what capacity to assume to be able to confront the system that be,  but if you be lucky to win then you can become a hero of your fellow citizens.

Freedom of Expression  is basic right of human but most of the rulers and Government do not like criticism and truth. So they target such journalist and media which do so. If we study human history then  this fact comes out. That the truth and those who speak the truth were not tolerated. Cruelty and brutality were allowed on them. Every tactic was used to silence such people. Their hands were cut off and the true historians were imprisoned. So Today, situation is different. There is better freedom of speaking and freedom of expression. Media is very powerful and free. Every human desire the freedom of expression.

There are levels of restrictions of freedom of speech in some parts of the world. If for instance your believe is seen as a taboo in the country that you're resident in, then it's best to make arrangement to leave that country to were your believe is welcomed. If you can not leave the country, then it's better to be on the low key, because I wouldn't advice anybody to get in trouble with the laws of his country of residence, except the person has a strong voice that'll fight for him. So it's better not to be a fool to fight a battle that can not be won, if you don't have a strong backing to protect your rights.
But what if the country is your country of origin and you don't have the funding to foot your possible relocation as you advised,  in such a case what do you expect the person involve to do,  sometime what we call freedom may actually be blown out of proportion by us and at that make things look and sound as if it way to against the citizens in it enterity,  this is because most times,  if you see the abuse of the freedom of speech that is granted to some citizen such as the social media right,  you can see how some forks and bad actors have used that to cause a lot of crisis in the society,  so such are the negative part of too much freedom of left unchecked to or unguided.

Human Rights resolution 217 A (III)

rights are things wrote on paper decided by people writing on paper. and only truly exercised by going to a court AFTER a violation to:
claim your rights were violated
hope the violator will be punished.

however this does not mean people have no responsibility in using their rights outside of the court. because by trying to enforce your rights you may be violating someone elses, and THEY can take YOU to court.

EG
Notice this a Human Rights, not Persons Rights, Persons have no rights.

technically internationally its human. but then states do form their own laws/constitutions on "the person"

and laws dont recognise you as human unless you take a state to international court of human rights.. because a state law recognises you as a person

Of course, you can't close your mouth when you see your leaders making wrong and selfish decisions that you know will affect you in the long run but you need to make your statement with caution and courtesy so your good intention won't be evil spoken of.
Yes, this is well stated, leaders are chosen to be directed by people behind him in order to avoid someone commenting on the wrong thing or following in a direct way, not because the person they choose as a leader knows more than everyone else or has knowledgeable them others, they are only chosen so that they will have freedom in that society.

In other word people who are the back of leader have the authority to steer him in the proper path when he makes poor mistakes. Leaders are a people we must obey, so it is important that we follow the norms and laws of any leadership. Because in any societies if their's no leadership they will no be development.

The United States is different than most countries. In the 1st Amendment it says:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Cornell explains it this way: "The First Amendment guarantees freedoms concerning religion, expression, assembly, and the right to petition. It forbids Congress from both promoting one religion over others and also restricting an individual’s religious practices. It guarantees freedom of expression by prohibiting Congress from restricting the press or the rights of individuals to speak freely. It also guarantees the right of citizens to assemble peaceably and to petition their government."

This means that the government can't make any laws against free speech. But this doesn't detract from people making agreements to limit their own free speech. People have the right to contract as adjudicated regarding the Contract Clause in the Constitution:
Article I, Section 10, Clause 1:

No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility.

The part of the Contract Clause that is important for freedom of expression restrictions is, "No State shall enter into any ... Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts... ."

The point of all this is, people in the US have the right to express themselves in ways wherein they have not limited themselves by contract. And they can do this freely without fear of being judged in courts of law.

The only other limitation that they have is when they take away the freedom of someone else by harming him or damaging his property, or by making a personal threat against him, through their freedom of expression. People who take offense from what somebody does or says in his freedom of expression, should recognize that it is they themselves who are harming themselves or someone else by what they think or do in NOT allowing someone else his right to freedom of expression.

In other words, as long as you don't hurt the eardrums of anybody, shouting matches at each other are legal. But that's it.

Freedom of expression is not meant to be absolute but even in free and tolerant societies we have seen people's rights eroded by a significant degree. Many European countries and US states are making it illegal to criticize Israel. If you point out any crimes committed by Israel's apartheid regime you are accused of being an antisemite and there is the potential of being charged with a hate crime. There is widespread censorship of any criticism of Zionist settler terrorism with cooperation from Israel's military in regions of Palestine where there is no Hamas presence, so safety concerns can't be used as a justification — a clear example of genocidal violence.

Even free speech absolutist, Elon Musk, is threatening to deplatform those who support Palestinians right to resist occupation, apartheid, and ethnic cleansing. It seems that free expression is only free as long as you remain within the confines of what those in power deem acceptable.

The corruption dominant in many third-world countries tends to hinder many citizens from exercising their rights freely. Democracy in third world countries is a joke,  it is just a word written in the constitution but in reality,  it is not practiced. It is very common to see cases where those who make opinions contrary to what the government wants to hear, are detained unjustly. Only the guys at the top control the government while the opposition are seen as violators of human rights.

Is there anything like true democracy in third-world countries?

I doubt if there be anything like that since the practice of democracy in those third world countries lacks of thorough ingredient of democracy since the practice of democracy in those countries has been plagued with loads of corruption,  malpractice and the rest of the other features that discredit them from true democracy.

This thread is subject to people’s opinions and everyone have the right to speak what he/ she feels about the expression which is indirectly the definition of freedom of expression.
In short form: it means the ability of a citizen to be able to voice out all their pains, complains and opinions on a particular motive been raised that requires public consideration and opinions.

Yes there are freedom of personal interest to associate and speech but all these freedoms have limitation in the world even those countries that are practicing the real democracy are not free from this. There is no country in the world that practice 100% free for her citizens. And the only thing I like in Americans are the liberal democracy which can't be found in any of the third world countries. If there was good freedom of speech Nigeria would have been good country in the world but those who speak to change the country to be a good place to live were jailed to mute their mouths. All these declaration of human freedom are just a mere proclamation and not in action.

Haven't some people taken advantage of this freedom of expression as abuse, to talk anyhow as they want to others because they feels it's their right to express their feelings even though they were wrong or doing it the wrong way, we have to learn how to pit ourselves in position if same thing we mostly often complained about before speaking with the way we take in addressing those situations, many of us wouldn't condole what we do to others when trying to express our own feelings.

That makes sense and this is what happening from all over the world. When world leaders give their speeches, we can't guarantee freedom from them.

And if someone speaks out from his heart of the actual situation that we're dealing, he's not guaranteed as well when he's talking and banging big names with their speeches.

What a sad world today indeed, everyone has became too soft and sensitive.
The freedom of speech is limited in some countries and can cause us big problem if we don't know how to control our mouth.
There are people that have put themselves into problems by taking anyhow to government officials which later get them arested and prosecuted. Even though we'll have the freedom of speech, that do not mean that we need to keep talking anyhow without using our head to know what we are ought to talk and what we shouldn't talk about. Many have gone to prison because they think they all have the freedom of speech.

Is democracy a dress for dictatorship only?[/b]

Democracy is two wolves and a Lamb voting on what to have for dinner tonight.
Two school dropouts tell a professor with two-thirds majority whats right and he has do.
It is a fact, most Counties are a Republic and not a Demo-cracy place.

Whenever I remember this quote of Idi Amin, it makes me realise once again that Democracy will not work everywhere especially in the third world countries. Indeed there’s freedom of speech, but your freedom isn’t guaranteed after that. What a despicable democracy we are living in. No rule of law is always abide by to the fullest in democratic rule, it is either the leaders are violating it, or the children’s of the leaders are violating it and lastly the citizens that have transgressed and don’t obey the rule of law because of the hardship they face from their leaders. Even in the first world countries, not all abide by freedom of speech, some are violated but theirs is controlled to the minimal level and not on all cases. Freedom of speech is a human right but know when you utter some words that won’t guarantee freedom after speech.
We hard a lot of leaders who where so autocratic and have rule with iron hands with total seizure of the people right to speech and some time those who dear to express their right to expression and freedom of speech are call attacker and lebeled an anti-government and those leaders may get them put behind bars and becoming they political prisoner and this has made a lot of other people to become afraid of the government.

But in some countries where democracy is practised in its true faith and followed with all the rules of llawfullyfollowed it becomes easier for the citizens of those countries to have the freedom to speak but not the same with other countries around the world too.

Naturally,  freedom of expression has certain limitations. This limitations allows you to make your opinions and ideas clear without violating the rights of others or constituting nuisance.  Under normal circumstances,  this has nothing to do with oppression as it is the right way to go in order to ensure there is peace and order in the society.

BUT
We all know that freedom of expression is very limited in third world countries, and when any statement is hostile to rulers, you put your freedom and life at risk, unlike developed countries, but we have noticed recently the lack of respect for freedom of expression by these countries
Example:
- player suspended and menaced by thier team after showing support to palestine
And the suppression of peaceful Manifestation that support Palestine
- Attacks and threats to people who do not support homosexuality.
Is this considered a suppression of freedom of expression?
Is democracy a dress for dictatorship only?

The corruption dominant in many third world countries tend to hinder many citizens from exercising their rights freely. agreed,

it’s very common in my country that the people who speak up about corruption, oppression or any kind of injustice to suddenly go missing or be identified as a part of terrorist groups or organizations any kind of criticism against the government is not allowed this is harmful because the government is first and foremost for the people so if they’re not open to criticisms then who are they leading and what for?

not only does the government do this but also some of my countrymen wherein they are deemed as loyalists or those loyal to political parties or families even if they’re no longer serving the people

lot of people just read parts of it.. they ignore the responsibility part aka "freely without infringing on the rights of others or spreading false propaganda and hatred."

meaning speak your mind but if your words harm/command/offend others, expect them to fight/argue back or perform some legal action against you.

inshort. you can claim your pronouns are "helicopter, chopper, swirly whirly bird" but you cant force me to call you it
being male but saying your a female does not give you the right to perve on women in public toilets/showers

everyone has the natural ability to wiggle their jaw and tongue to make sounds. but there are consequences to someones actions too

no one can say you cannot pretend that you are a tree(if that is your kink). but if one of your branches(limbs) hurts someone. or you show your nuts/low hanging fruits..  expect repercussions
and yes expect people to express their belief that your insane

my personal opinion
the over extended media promotion of rights while not highlighting the responsibility is just a game media play to cause infighting and separation between a population.

be free to speak and express yourself. but just think, are you really expressing your real self. or just copying some social trend you seen. which if you spent a minute thinking for yourself, realise these skits, reels, trends and political slogans are insane and made dramatic in the first place

...
its much like gun law. "free to bear arms" yet people are free to defend themselves against someone bearing arms.
so whilst you think your free to wave a gun around, someone else is free to shoot/arrest you for threatening them with a weapon

There is freedom of speech but I will say that in My country, it is limited. Only the rich are allowed to talk whatever that they like and do but the poor ones are not allowed to say whatever they like because the rich are oppressing the poor in my country. This is the same with poor and rich countries doing business. The moment the poor country says something against the practice of the rich country or disagree with them, they will cut tie with them, and this is because the rich country believes that they are the ones helping the poor country to survive.

From what I understand in this world the rich are always oppressing the poor and have deprived the poor from their freedom to say what they feel is bad to them, but when you are rich, you can say whatever you like and it doesn't seem to be taken serious.

I don't think "freedom of expression" carries much weight anymore. Arguably never did, at least starting in the early 20th century onward. Consider the Espionage Act that could've locked people up for holding an political opinion deemed "too extreme." Or an extension of that scope when McCarthy had his communist witch hunt up until the mid-50s or so. Then after 9/11 the Patriot Act that green-lighted warrantless surveillance of individuals under the guise of terrorism. Some of these you could argue even started out with good intention on reeling in otherwise bad actors, nevertheless innocent people did (and do) get caught up in these surveillance programs for expressing opinions that may be considered extreme by a global entity like the NSA. Unfortunately for us, it's what they decide is too extreme.

I do think we've entered a whole new era that's become monumentally more concerning though. With the rise of Big Tech, people end up profiling themselves a lot more than they realize, simply by using certain services without reading the fine print in ToS's. For example, monitor your scripts across every webpage you visit. 90% of them will have Google 3rd party scripts collecting data. Even when the webpage itself seemingly has no connection to Google. Facebook is a TOTAL wash, people profile themselves on that for fuck sake. Instagram, SnapChat, Tinder, etc. all the same.

This in and of itself is concerning, but when you factor in the era of "culture wars" and "wokeness" that contemporary companies not only acknowledge, but many endorse, then Big Tech can monitor pretty much everything you do and cut you off if they don't think you express the right views. And considering by law these companies are considered private entities, your not protected under the first amendment. At least not as well. Because they can argue in courts of law that their platforms are owned by them, and they can choose to deny service to anyone for whatever reason they like. Hold the wrong view about Israel/Palestine? Gone. Hold the wrong view about Joe Biden? Gone. Hold the wrong view about Donald Trump? Gone. Are you skeptical about COVID vaccines? Bad news for you, you're gone.

And it shouldn't even be about what's correct or not. Technical application of "freedom of expression" would allow for people hold, endorse, and even spread incorrect views. Provided said views don't incite violence towards another individual or institution. However people aren't allowed to have incorrect expressions anymore. Or, rather speaking, their not allowed to have what other private conglomerates believe is incorrect expressions anymore.

There's law and there's human right, if we don't know what the law says then it may be abused or used against us, some people are not know what their rights are, how will they be able to fight for them, but the governments will always uses that same law to find us each time we are guilty, they are always found hiding under the same law because they know what it says, how to dodge some aspects they are guilty of and project the ones they know is part of their right to claim, henceforth we should also speak out our rights and fight for them when necessary.
Knowledge is power indeed,  and that also goes further to tell us how the importance of education is on individuals because with the knowledge of your rights as a person,  anybody can easily abuse you even when you are on your right because you don't know,  so ignorance is indeed a big hindrance to our freedom,  speaking and fighting for our right is very necessary and just as I ooh ted out in the earlier comments,  one doesn't necessarily need to know everything concerning the entire laws but as a citizen,  it is important to at least know your fundamental rights.

Just like a trend that is happening in my country,  where policemen just demand to search a suspect phone, meanwhile, the law gives citizens the right to privacy over mobile phones and unless with a warrant duly signed by a court to search the phone only then you can allow police to have access to your phone.

But if you don't have this information in the first place,  how then do you intend to enforce it at some point if the need arise?

Is this considered a suppression of freedom of expression?
Is democracy a dress for dictatorship only?

If there's no freedom of expression then people wouldn't have been engaging in all manner of attacks over the government leadership and their way of ruling policies, there's freedom of speech, only when we know how to fight it, this takes courage in us, some aren't outspoken, some cannot argitate, we have freedom of speech but some are not aware of their right because they have already felt being intimidated by those in political power, so they cannot confront them.
There is some extent of freedom in the political systems most especially in the donemcratic states,  where there is laws and institutions that enforce those laws,  although there have been some level of oppression also from the politically influenced to the ordinary citizens,  this has been the evidence of some degraded system of government,  and also making efforts to force they will on the citizens where there corruption and illegitimacy in the governance.

At some point, the citizens may have to give up the will to believe in the government and their right to freedom of speech and stipulated in the constitutions but not practical in some cases.

Freedom of expression only goes as far as it doesn't hurt anyone or damage his property. For example, if all the people living in a certain area believe that wearing clothing is disgusting and harmful to the mind and body, those few who want to wear clothing better do it indoors, or else move out of the area.

Let's say there is freedom of speech. If the speaker has a voice that can shout so loudly that his speech breaks the eardrums of people, he better not speak. Freedom of speech doesn't cover that.

No Democracies are ruled by the people in general. All Democracies have a small group of people as their rulers. That's why the Democracy is almost the same as group-Dictatorship.

The US is not a Democracy. The 'company/trust' known as the Untied States Government is a Dictatorship. America is a Republic where all the people have the right to do anything they want, as long as what they do doesn't harm or threaten anyone else or his property. The Republic is over the Democracy, but the people have mostly forgotten this mindset, and forgotten how to implement the Republic over the Democracy.

Such measures are taken to suppress any race, religion, caste or a particular state, and this is also the case with Palestine. When the white and black movement was going on in South Africa, the blacks were suppressed in all respects. Also in the history of America, when slavery was in place, there were some people who were against this course and its There were some people who were against and the people who were on the side tried to keep them down Even today, athletes or entertainers who speak out for Palestine are denied many privileges, including bans, not only here, but also in various leagues They have been excluded from Now the matter is that no one adheres to what was actually given in the UN Convention as an expression of opinion Democracy doesn't work when you speak against others and your freedom of expression is taken away and democracy works when you speak for it.Freedom of speech is said to be accepted in the constitutions of all countries but no one actually means that every time you speak for Palestine, you will be tried to assert your opinion in various ways And various actions may be taken against your Power in today's world, countries talk about democracy and freedom of speech, but they take away the freedom of speech of others for their own benefit They try to put pressure on the political economy and technology and they succeed in many ways because they keep all the states pretty much under control with different systems. That's why everyone should unite to express their opinion and consider right and wrong and give priority to justice rather than their own interests. Then freedom of speech can be fully recognized and recognized as a human being If you are able to express your opinion, there will be no restrictions or oppression.

Freedom has to operate within the boundaries of the law. If freedom will violate the law then it should not be practiced.
The law has to be Just/good so that freedom doesn't create problems for the society it's practiced in and so that freedom to do right is not limited.

Freedom of speech/expression has to be according to Just Law otherwise you create anarchy-like situations where everyone says or do whatever they want whether good or bad. Freedom to do evil is not allowed otherwise there won't be punishment for doing evil.
I think Human Rights are for things that are right for humans. It makes no sense to say doing evil or wrong is part of Human Rights whereas what is done is not Right.

The thing with law is (in the case of country which actually care for freedom of expression and basic human liberties) that there are very limited scenarios where freedom of speech can be prosecuted and that is a good thing, being the only exception the case of defamation.
But you also need to keep in mind it is possible to incite violence or push for anarchy just by using one's freedom to say what we want to however we want. While there are citizens who use their right to spread hope and love for each other, some will take a loudspeaker and say we should abolish state, abolish police or even overthrow a sitting president, it is legal to say those things and yet they can put in danger the same democracy and liberty which allows them to be vocal about their feelings and ideology.
It is very ironic, isn't it ?

Wel those you mentioned seem like there's a suppression of freedom of expression. Supporting Palestine or expressing one's views on homosexuality should ideally be protected in democratic societies. Democracy promotes individual freedoms and the right to express opinions without fear but the real world isn't always that simple. Balancing free speech with maintaining order can be a tricky challenge. Some argue that in certain cases, democracy might be used as a cover for more autocratic practices. It's a topic of ongoing debate, and people's experiences with democracy can vary widely. What's important is to keep the conversation going, raising awareness about these issues and advocating for the protection of everyone's right to express themselves within the bounds of respect and understanding.

Every country has their own ways of delivering and describing of what freedom of expression is. But if it has come to an extent that your opinion and expression is also becoming noticeable, much better to keep quiet. I know that this is the right of everyone and if your country has a side to go along with what is happening globally especially on the wars then it is better not to take any side or you just keep your opinions for now. Or if you're going to express what you feel, then you have to make sure that you're not figured out if the government you have is too strict about these matters.

While I believe that it is a suppression to your freedom of expression, but know that there's always a limit and the more you talk, the more mistake you might say. Censorship happens and that's why even if you fight for your freedom to express, you might be silenced or just be in silence.

If freedom of expression includes in it a threat, depending on the kind of threat, the whole thing might need to be investigated. But if it is for artistic purposes, or to simply lay out an opinion, or when life is simply being lived, there should be freedom.

The Freedom to Hate

https://www.ericpetersautos.com/2023/10/30/the-freedom-to-hate/
"Nikki" Haley, for instance. In air fingers quotation marks to make a point of the fact her real name isn't that. Nimarata Haley recently lectured Americans that while "there should be freedom of speech," people have not got the "freedom to hate."

Well, first of all, who gets to define what constitutes "hate"?

Why, the Left, of course!

It was the Left that first framed disagreeing with the Left as "hate" – in order both to smear such disagreement as morally repugnant and – next – to seek to outlaw any expression of disagreement with the Left.

So what is Nimarata trying to "conserve," exactly? It's certainly not the freedom to express disagreement with the Left.

Or the Right.

We all know that freedom of expression is very limited in third world countries, and when any statement is hostile to rulers, you put your freedom and life at risk, unlike developed countries, but we have noticed recently the lack of respect for freedom of expression by these countries
Sometimes when I see protesters in some developed nations, I just count them lucky. In Africa, you can't criticize or protest against a government policy. You will either be beaten, sent to prison without trial or even killed. The courts are powerless because they are under the control of the government in power. In Africa, you just keep suffering and smiling because there is nothing like freedom of expression.

- Attacks and threats to people who do not support homosexuality.
I just read news where Joe Biden the president of the US announced that Uganda will be removed from a special US-Africa trade programme. The reason is because of the country's anti-homosexual laws. Removing this country from this program will have an adverse economic impact on this African nation because it will limit its exports to the US.  The people of Uganda believe that this law is consistent with their values and norms but they are forced to accept a law that is alien to their customs and traditions.

When it comes to the issue of limitations on freedom of expression, I don't see it as a bad thing. The reason is that if you don't curb the way some citizens make unguided speech and statements about certain things, they will end up causing crises for the country. You can't because you've been given the right to express yourself and you will make a statement that tends to cause war or chaos in the land, that's very bad.

Of course, you can't close your mouth when you see your leaders making wrong and selfish decisions that you know will affect you in the long run but you need to make your statement with caution and courtesy so your good intention won't be evil spoken of.

In my opinion is that freedom of speech and the way it is handled is not actually the problem, but the ramifications there could be and the interections private companies and organizations have with freedom of speech.
Nowadays, the logic goes as follows: one is allowed to say whatever you want, but your boss has also the right to fire you because of it, and social media websites have also rights to close down your voice in their platforms.
All of those instances, we talk about private entities.

In the case of students who support Palestine, a government controled college could do nothing to suppress their freedom of speech, but they will likely be blacklisted by private employers.

Where there is freedom there will be oppression also,  just like wherever thereares weapons, there will be wars,  so what then will savage us from this ugly incident is our knowledge and ability to enforce our right even in the face of oppression and being able to fight and defend what we believe and know that is right against wrong.

So for that many governments will only seek ways to restrict citizens' right and also make sure there be a place where we can all co-exist in without any interference from one another,  this has been the most pronounced aspect of the whole thing,  how we can freely express our fundamental right such as freedom of speech as you mentioned.
