You are given freedom on the internet but at the same time if your content is not welcome you will just get censored.

It has come to a point of making everything family friendly for all ages. Nowdays you can't even swear without trouble of being banned or censored. On example I remember week ago there was a history movie about ww2. and guess who was censored? Swastika was edited to just be a cross. It came to the point where you are not allowed to show the history the way it was. I am aware of laws in Germany, you can get arrested there just for mentioning ww2.
In Europe if you engage in some political speech agains government there is a chance you will get visited by police I won't even talk about lower rank countrys where is high corruption.

I just feel that we should have more alternatives which would not be so highly monitored and censored.
Yes that is the reality. Government has been censoring history and has been doing that to preveng conflicts in that case that is really unfair when we do talk about our freedom of speech. But in my place people now always has a say about politics and were never arrested maybe because we might be influenced by the US culture and has been practicing democracy

This is the key here. This is why everyone is so keen on tearing apart the US, censoring it, and removing our rights here. In the modern world our freedoms here will forever serve as a reminder of the oppression so many people suffer in their own countries with no freedom of speech, right to bear arms, or other unique constitutional rights we have here in the US. Since censorship will be a temporary patch at most for these more totalitarian countries to cover up their oppressive acts, the most effective method is to actually manipulate the US into removing rights of its people to more closely fall in line with totalitarian practices.

Conversely, even though the USA has in many ways been quite a source of problems for the world for a while, still should be protected because it remains to serve as that example of (relative) freedom, at least in principle and law if not in practice. If the USA falls, the world is going to lose a critical culture of rare freedoms, possibly forever. This may seem a bit grandiose, but if you look at it in historical context, such freedoms are almost unheard of, especially on this scale.

True freedoms come with responsibilities.

True, we have to use our freedoms wisely or risk losing them through abuse.

Google is not much of a monopoly when it comes to information though as China with its billions of people do not use Google for information and research.

For us Americans Freedom of speech is written into our Articles of Freedom; even so we are not allowed to say anything: such as threats against a president, inciting violence ect. There would be potential consequences to abusing our "right" to freedom of speech.
True freedoms come with responsibilities.

Each individual has the personal freedom to choose what they say and do while accepting (but usually mostly whining about ;-))  the outcomes those actions create.

The internet is quite a different beast but I will say that it IS much cleaner than 25 years ago....by far.

You have good points there but I have to point out some points also that I am currently thinking.

Quote
Internet
Internet is a world wide web without ownership and control while there is constant battle of giants trying to control it either by large services and tracking it's users. You have giants like google with majority of the network that has turned into monopol machine. All information is being processed, search results are being filtered and bad marked content will never get the views. There are always options of being vigilante and use tor network or other smaller providers but the result is that there is just not many people around and you will be very limited.

What certain bad contents are you talking about and how google do categorize it. As far as I know they only disallow shady contents that contains viruses or pornographic which are not suitable for all ages.

Social media
Social media are great for staying in touch wether to your friends, fanbase or group of followers. But as you know content is extremely monitored and there is only that much that you can share. This pattern in the last years is clear indication of new advanced ads and owners making the most of it. But even when you move back in time when there was not much ad limitations it would still narrow your options. Check out youtube on example. In a year or two they went from wild west into fword, family friendy content. There have been some political censorships but I will not go into it because I don't want to speculate.

Just like google, of course Facebook has to monitor contents. You also have to understand that just like any other companies they have to follow certain rules that abides the law. You can't just expect someone posting a dead people or someone going for a live show fully naked (as I have pointed out those type of contents are not for all ages and is really necessary to filter out). Social media is being highly used for fake news and that is making the platform hazardous to its users.

Work and career
Job interview... Think twice what will you write in your resume, no beard, watch out for any tatto, rather make a bunch of lies and say that you have no weak points. People get screwed over so easy over some bullshit things they do or say online. I mean do I haveto say much about it, you already know how it goes on.

Ahm I am not sure yes it is still really existing in some work types. and I highly disagree on this habit from our society.

There is something that bothers me for the last year or so and I don't really see anyone ever mentioning it. Freedom of speech on the internet or society seems to be very sketchy. You might think that you enjoy your freedom of expression while in reality there is no such a thing and I noticed in the last few years that on the internet it is getting more and more narrow.

I will separate few talking points into sections just for the sake of not making a large messy thread.

Intro
Freedom of speech and expression has not always been around us and still it is a luxury that could cost you a head in many 3rd world countries. In the last century you can openly express your opinion on any topic, you can bash on media, politics, anything and everything or is it so? Now as a modern society freedom of speech is one of the basic human rights but when you look at it more deep, you will always have certain boundaries.

Internet
Internet is a world wide web without ownership and control while there is constant battle of giants trying to control it either by large services and tracking it's users. You have giants like google with majority of the network that has turned into monopol machine. Conclusion
We might conclude that most of the todays censorship such as insults, extreme content, or hard opinions might be clearly driven by pure profit It bothers me to see that we don't have good enough alternatives. Atleast internet should be free of censorship.

I might have missed a lot of content because I am not currently in the shower but you should get my point. Share some of your opinions on the thread so we could make a discussion.
