I never understand why such sites should scam people, the revenue model is always there and they make a profit on all transactions.

Because there are some companies who like to steal their customers funds by making various excuses. They think the fastest way to generate their revenue is to freeze the customer's funds and vanish his money by teaching him some TOS lessons.

We can never expect anything good from such a website, they are always looking for ways to trap more people. So our job is to warn the newbie in advance about the motives of those companies so that they do not fall into this trap again.
right, freewallet is doing selective scam, this is their way of subtly committing crimes, their target is random, customers collect coins and unknowingly fall into their traps.

I am reading more and more stories about people having problems with this online service. Where there's smoke, there is fire. There are also a number of users who have no problems with this site, so the question is where the truth lies and why all these problems have arisen. I never understand why such sites should scam people, the revenue model is always there and they make a profit on all transactions. I also remember that Elon Musk story.
So many victims out there, not a few of their customers' funds have been stolen, this is one of the freewallet addresses to store customer funds they scam 0x6025D96932D378BE7D0A46343b437678A126eCCa, please see the comments there (etherscan) using the wallet address above, and my funds are there too

Really what has to happen is people need to report the Freewallet app to GooglePlay as being a scam. Because it is. It's ridiculous that they get such high placement ranking when people do searches for various coin mobile wallets. If people report them here, they may or may not respond. If enough people report them to Google, they will be taken down.

I hope so. Don't let it take many more victims. if we are silent maybe freewallet will continue to do this, and it can happen to friends, family and other people who don't know this freewallet

  • Comply with them, and hope they finally give you access to your funds[DONE]
  • Keep bugging them by creating a thread on bitcointalk and other forums, by leaving reviews on review sites, by publicly asking them updates on twitter and facebook and other social media platforms
  • Find a lawyer that wants to go after them
  • If you ever get your funds back, move them away from freewallet as soon as possible

But, THEY are the ones who hold the private keys, the only ones that can give you access to your funds are THEM... So, unless they decide to give you your own money, or untill you force them (by getting a lawyer or giving them bad publicity) nothing will happen.
None of these steps give any guarantee...

ok I will do that, thanks for the advice and support. Yes, I know that custodial wallets do not give full access rights to their customers, because they do not provide private keys to their customers. and someone said Any crypto wallet that won't give you your private keys should be avoided at all costs.

As soon as you opened a wallet with them, you were shown their addresses, not yours. They just moved your funds between their wallets...

they did that when I was going to withdraw my coin, after I did that there was a notification to the email that my account was suspended and asked for all data including kyc etc, I immediately fulfilled the freewallet request, but so far they have never completed it, and always reason to wait and wait. I'm curious to check my balance via ethscan, here I know that my balance has moved to a freewallet address, and they use a trick as if my funds are still in my account, which actually has 0 balance. Is it allowed in this forum that I send evidence, where does Freewallet store the funds of the customers they scammed?

I have complied with what they want, I have provided all my personal data according to their request, but Freewallet is still holding my funds until now. I tried to find out, it turned out that my funds had been transferred to their wallet address without me knowing, and the freewallet reasoned it was a cold storage wallet. in this way they deceive their customers. thanks for the advice i will try..

I'm afraid the only things you can do are:
  • Comply with them, and hope they finally give you access to your funds
  • Keep bugging them by creating a thread on bitcointalk and other forums, by leaving reviews on review sites, by publicly asking them updates on twitter and facebook and other social media platforms
  • Find a lawyer that wants to go after them
  • If you ever get your funds back, move them away from freewallet as soon as possible

The bottom line is: you used a custodial "wallet" (in fact, a custodial exchange with a very random, selective, over-the-top KYC procedure) to hold your funds. They are the only one on this planet that are able to return your money to you... They build a TOS that allows??? them to selectively close accounts and hold the funds hostage untill over the top KYC procedures are followed (if the victim succeeds in doing this offcourse, otherwise i guess they can keep the funds... at least, that seems to be their logic). I have no idear if what they're doing is legal in the country where their headquarter is located, i'm not a lawyer... It seems illogical to me that their procedure is following every aspect of the law, but as a layman i have no clue wether or not this is true.

I am sorry, I just got into the bitcointalk forum, because I have to take care of my family at the hospital. until this moment freewallet has not paid, even emails are not replied to and on social media they do not reply. I've given all my data but they still ignore it. what steps should I do because I really need the funds. Thank you for all the support in this forum

Thank you for the response, I have repeatedly sent emails via ticket number, but the answer is wait and wait, one year of verification has never been completed, I only have 1.2 eth on my freewallet account. I really need the funds for medical expenses. my ticket 198408. I am waiting for their response, and if there is no good faith, I will post all the evidence
Did you solve your case? If you open a thread and give it some publicity you might be able to press them to return the money like the OP. Freewallet ask abusively for documents and more documents but ends returning the money if public pressed. Their tactic seem to be to find any ground to refuse to return the money.

Same here Cheesy scammed out of my account for over a week, with no reply which is not generic bull**** Feel free @Freewallet to check verification documents associated with tickets 318532, 319656, 318511... But I guess no luck :/ Seems like their great 24/7 support is more like 24 years / 7 months availability than usual 24/7 meaning all the other world is on....

I would delete this information and be careful with what you post here. Scammers might pretend to be you, or worse, pretend to be from support while tricking you into sending them... whatever. There's a lot of scamming fuckwits that monitor these types of threads looking for easy prey.

Thank you for your attention, please help me to get them out and solve this problem, i have sent pm to freewallet, but they have not responded

It might be a good idear to send them a PM to notify them of your post...

But all in all, putting pressure on them trough posting on forums, facebook, twitter, review-sites seems to be a hail-mary short that pays off rather often. It seems they don't mind selectively closing accounts and trying to keep the funds for themselfs, but they don't like bad publicity... So when they're called out on their shennanigans, they often cave... It's possible you'll have to make a bit more noise, like posting some evidence before they decide their reputation damage is worth more than your 1.2 ETH....

is there anyone here who can help me, I am having trouble withdrawing my funds from freewallet, I have sent all my data and selfies, but from 2019 until now the funds are still being held. every time I post on Facebook they always delete and my message is also not replied to. if needed I will screenshot my account and all the evidence of the 300 emails that have been sent but the answers are nonsense. I hope the seniors in bitcointalk can help me,, because I really need these funds, for routine parents' medical expenses

Recently @Spidermantheman1 issue was resolved by the freewallet team. You can also try your luck by sharing the ticket number raised for this purpose.
By the way, how much money is stuck for you in freewallet ?
Members at bitcointalk can only flag his account so more people do not deposit in that wallet, but if you have already deposited in freewallet, then you have to wait and see what is the team response on your case.

I'm sorry to hear that you are your funds are held by Freewallet for so long, but unfortunately noone on this forum can really force them to do anything. They have been tagged and flagged by senior members already and as you can see that didn't help much.

But who knows, maybe they decide to do something after they see your post..

I remember the situation around Elon Musk the last time. Then it was solved quickly, but Elon Musk is not just somebody of course.
People like him have the power to shutdown the whole operation and website probably.

Dear Spidermantheman1,
You successfully passed the verification procedure and your account is fully operational now. Could you please check it and let us know if you need further assistance? Thanks in advance!

LOL! This is the most cheeseball turnaround I have ever seen. What a fucking joke.  Cheesy How does this wallet continue to have users??

Happy for OP that he could withdraw his coins.

I wonder what draws people to use this wallet when there's so much clearcut evidence out there that it's a selective scam, at best.

Thanks for reminding me of Freewallet, today when i logged in i found there some Monero coins which I had bought about 3 years ago and forgot and fortunately coins were not stolen.. Anyhow , I have successfully transferred them to my Binance exchange account. Thanks once again.

You are posting this because OP is very serious in pursuing a legal battle against you, OP has done the right thing stopping all communications and just proceed with suing this scam wallet, this is for those they scammed and to protect people from getting scam by these scammers, I hope you'll win your battle it's for the community so that these scammers stop their activities once and for all.

Hey everyone just an update regarding this. I am truly grateful for everyone’s help on this, this community is really great to be a part of. I have been contacted by people who are just trying to help or are going through the same issue with freewallet.org.

I have decided to proceed with a legal team considering the game that is being played will never be won. Requests of documents that legitimate exchanges that allow you to link your bank account and buy with credit cards have never requested what is being asked from me. I have provided all the outlandish requested documents unfortunately. Considering invasion of privacy and concern of my funds along with the protection of my identity, I’ve been advised to stop all communication with them after today.

I will most definitely keep this community posted and truly appreciate everyone’s help

Do you have contact info of the owner?? Someone mentioned I can PM him?

He already answered in this very thread... Click on his username, then click on "Send this member a personal message." and you'll end up on this page:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=1177176

I would only use the PM function to point him towards this thread... And since he already answered in this very thread, he is aware of it's existance. I would keep most communication public (except if he asks personal information). By keeping things public, you increase the pressure to unlock your account, as soon as you go private there is no more "bad publicity" for them, so their incentive to help you out soon decreases dramatically.

I warned about the frewallet practices several times
This owner of freewallet is not crazy. He has a history of returning the money if conveniently pressed. But 100,000 will be very tempting for him. I just supported his flags and added a new negative. But he clearly no longer cares for that.

After three emails asking me ONLY for my selfie, they now requested stupid unnecessary documents. I swear these people are the worst of the worst. Why couldn’t they request everything in one email. Damn. I send everything to them right away so let’s see what happens. Mind you not I’ve been talking to four different employees all of them feeding me BS after BS.
Here’s copy of text from email:
Hello,

To proceed with the verification procedure, the security department requests the following information:

1) Screenshots of your incoming transactions where we can see the hash, amount and the name of the sending service (another wallet, exchange and so on);
2) Photo of your identification document of the owner of the account: an international ID or a driver’s license (a photo of both sides).
3) Bank statement or utility bill where we can see your name and resident address. Information should be in English;
4) A photo of the owner of the account in front of the image “Attention” (attached below) on your computer monitor (if you use a web version of Freewallet) or near your mobile device with the app open so that we were able to see your user ID.

Once we receive all the required information, we will forward it to our security department for verification.

If you read my previous post, you'll see that things might even get worse... They asked 4 of their 6 possible options... Next to these 4 things, they also give themselfs the freedom to make you proof the origin of your funds, and they're judge, jury and executioner as to wether or not your explanation is sufficient... And they also gave themselfs the freedom to sniffle around in your ACTIVE social media accounts.
By the way: their TOS says the information you give them has to be in english, or you'll have to pay for a notarised copy.

Like i said: they're judge, jury and executioner... Not a pleasant feeling to have your lifesavings taken hostage i'm afraid...

There are only 2 things you can do: bend over backwards and hope you've made enough noise to convince them to access funds that belong to you, or search a good lawyer. Oh, you can also warn others, but that's what you've been doing.

As soon as you regain access to your funds: make sure you empty your wallet with them and walk away... Don't get suckered into thinking "I already passed their KYC, might aswell keep on using them". If this ordeal proves anything, it should be you should never trust a non-custodial wallet, especially not one that has massive red trust and negative reviews all over the place. (btw, this is not legal advice... Do what you want with your money... I'm just saying what i would do if i was faced with the same situation you are)

My ticket number is 297876. So far 72+ hours and they claim my photos have been altered with. I sent new photos right away. I’m fed up with them. If only they responded as fast as they tweet..

72 hours is nothing when it comes to most customer supports, because considering what kind of service it is, be sure that there are a lot of people who are in the same situation as you. If you have read a post from mocacinno, it should be much clearer to you what kind of requirements you should expect - be prepared to repeat the same procedure several times.

Why would people use a wallet if there's a chance it could take and hold your coins, for who knows how long?

Due to ignorance of basic things, there is no other logical explanation. OP is posted his review on Trust Pilot now, but if by any chance he took 5 minutes of his time and did a little research on what it is about, now he might not be in this situation.

Hello, I downloaded freewallet app on iOS and didn’t read the reviews like an idiot!! I deposited $100,000 in Monero and I got the “suspicious activity email”. They wanted selfie with ID which I have provided to them and still no response.

Please tell me these guys are legit and I didn’t get robbed for my 100k in monero??

Hi there! Could you please share your support ticket number here? We will look into it and get back to you with an update.

Why would people use a wallet if there's a chance it could take and hold your coins, for who knows how long? Makes no sense to me as it defeats the purpose of having a wallet. It really doesn't matter if they are doing what they do for KYC/AML compliance or whatever, it doesn't make sense to keep coins there if that's all you are doing. I get maybe its a matter of convenience for some, but people should learn a bit more about how to self-custody rather than risk interrupting their wealth.

$100k is a lot of money to be trusting somebody with. I hope it works out for you but it is a very big mistake choosing a wallet where you don't own the private keys.

You definitely need to be more responsible when choosing where you will hold $100k. First of all you shouldn't even be putting that much money in a mobile wallet. You need to get a hardware wallet.

My ticket number is 297876. So far 72+ hours and they claim my photos have been altered with. I sent new photos right away. I’m fed up with them. If only they responded as fast as they tweet..

--snip-- and no one would get access to my coins.

THEY have access to your coins... YOU don't have access to your coins...

When you use their app and you're withdrawing funds, all you're doing is asking them if they pretty please (with a cherry on top) want to create a transaction using your funds (which you don't controll) if it's not to much trouble...  This is not a wallet, it's an exchange (as said before), an exchange with over-the-top KYC procedures that selectively lock accounts based on factors they do not want to disclose.
If you want to give all controll away and no longer be your own banks, that's up to you... Just don't come crying if they lock your account again and ask access to your social media accounts to unlock your account (and if you're like me, you don't have any active social media accounts with your real identity, so you're pretty much f*cked)

Their KYC procedure can ask for following things... I suppose that if you fail to provide a single one, they can keep your funds?Huh?
  • screenshots of any incoming transactions or deposits to Freewallet from the INITIAL SOURCE. They have a bunch of extra requirements for these screenshots
  • Provide information about the origin of funds. They have a bunch of extra requirements for these screenshots
  • A clear closeup photo of your identification document in English. What if you don't live in an english speaking country? Grounds to rob you i guess?
  • A photo of yourself in front of the image “Attention” (an image they provide) open on your app or your monitor
  • A recent copy of a bank card statement, an excerpt from a household register, a tax bill or tax return or a utility bill payment receipt. If these documents aren't in English, you need a NOTARIZED translation... Woooooop, these things cost a lot of money.... If they're not stealing several hundred bucks from you, you might aswell forfeit your funds...
  • Links to active profiles in any social network
source: https://support.freewallet.org/support/solutions/articles/9000184127-how-to-pass-kyc-procedure-

On top of this, i've heared they're asking video proof aswell...

This is not a service where i'd keep my funds... like, ever... But bitcoin is about the freedom of choice... If you chose this service, it's up to you... We will not stop you (we couldn't if we tried).

I've completed the verification process and now I'm using the app with ease. I'm sure they are no scam and no one would get access to my coins.

How could a app in the apple store have the potential of doing something like this. I’m so stupid . Life savings gone . Please free wallet don’t do this

If it is true that you really sent such a large amount to someone without first checking what kind of service it is then you are in big trouble whether you get your money back or not. That service has a pretty bad reputation with its pretty intensive KYC checks, but don't think that a similar request wouldn't have happened to you if you had sent that same amount to any custodial wallet / exchange - everyone would ask you to identify yourself and prove the origin of the money.

As for the Apple App Store, I don't know why you think there are only well-intentioned apps there? As in the Google Play Store, there are apps that have malicious intent - we recently had a case where a fake app for the Trezor hardware wallet appeared. Unlike your situation, everyone who download it and entered their seed lost everything they had, so consider yourself lucky to have a chance to get your coins back.

See more info here -> A fake app in apple app store stole his life savings in bitcoin

Thank you everybody for your effort in helping me. How could a app in the apple store have the potential of doing something like this. I’m so stupid . Life savings gone . Please free wallet don’t do this

This is the first thing you can do to get your money back. Write Freewallet and tell them that if they dont return your money you will write Apple and denounce all the scam accusations against them. Ending up with their app removed will be a major blow for them.

I've seen many, many, many people complaining on bitcointalk about this exact thing....

The reply i agree most with is:
--snip--
He has a history of returning the money if conveniently pressed.
--snip--

This is exactly what i've witnessed time and time again: he locks somebody's account, asks ridiculous things in order to unlock the account, doesn't repond swiftly... Untill the victim starts posting on bitcointalk, on twitter, on reddit, on other platforms... Then, all of a sudden, the owner pops up and "resolves" this issue (he created).

Makes me wonder how many people try to comply with him without starting to complain on fora and social media... I really wonder if those people ever see their funds again...

OP: send a PM to the owner and ask him to chip in on this thread, that's possibly the fastest way into pressuring him to look into the issue he created... And if he resolves this issue, please chose a decent non-custodial wallet to move your funds to...

I warned about the frewallet practices several times
This owner of freewallet is not crazy. He has a history of returning the money if conveniently pressed. But 100,000 will be very tempting for him. I just supported his flags and added a new negative. But he clearly no longer cares for that.

I can confirm this is the original wallet from freewallet not a phishing or fake app, because the developer ID is same with the multi crypto wallet (linked in their official website).

So I hope @Mistafreeze said will come true Roll Eyes

I hope they don’t scam me this was literally all my savings!!! I thought they offer the 12 word backup but only on web version which I cannot log into. This is horrible. @freewallet release my coins!!
You need to do own research first before choosing random wallet, usually some wallet will show your 12 word backup that you need to confirm first/write out before you finish up creating your wallet.

Freewallets.org are not scammers, there are many fake freewallet apps on google play store, probably you ran into one of them without knowing. May I see the link of the downloaded app from the play store so I can verify if its legit or fake app. With loads of complaints the support on the site is too slow to respond so I would advice you to use tustpilot.com and search freewallet.org and tell your problem under review, the admin is kinda fast there... Good luck to you

Too bad, sorry for your loss.

The chance are slim if they want to gave your money back, just search "Freewallet scam bitcointalk" in your browser, you'll see many accusation made by victims against this exchange

Reviews on IOS or Playstore aren't trusted and reliable, if you want to check the original and trusted reviews, better to check in this forum. Because if someone made wrong reviews, usually there's a another user will correct it.
