Since you didn't mention the CPU, I take it you have a video-out-enabled CPU? If not, your machine won't post without a video card.

Other than that, it's not necessary to wait and wouldn't matter either way.

Just wait till the GPUs come in.

Windows 7 install on an SSD is less than 20 mins or so.

Are you saying this because it is convinient to do everything together or because it is necessary to wait?

Just wait till the GPUs come in.

Windows 7 install on an SSD is less than 20 mins or so.

EDIT:

  • When do I need to edit BIOS during the whol OS installation?

Anytime before or after.

  • I have seen some use thermal compound/glue when installing the CPU to the mobo - is this necessary?

Thermal compound goes between the CPU and the heatsink. If you are using a retail box CPU, it is already applied. If this is just going to be a mining machine, you shouldn't need anything more than the retail heatsink.

Ok so I have new

ASROCK Extreme4 MOBO
120GB SSD
Win7 64 bit full licence

I want to put the system together as I wait for the GPU's to snail-mail through to me.

I am at a loss how to begin putting this together. Should I:

  • Burn the Win 7 image to a DVD, connect a DVD-ROM to the mobo, connect SSD and boot from the DVD and proceed to install?
  • Connect the SSD to my old compaq/HP desktop, install Win7 - then connect it to the new mobo and go from there?

Other related questions:
  • When do I need to edit BIOS during the whol OS installation?
  • I have seen some use thermal compound/glue when installing the CPU to the mobo - is this necessary?

Any help or reference to online guides would be GREATLY appreciated!
