My friend is now funded!
Thanks to all for the kind wishes and thoughts.
A special thanks to msc for the donation, too!

How far are they from Minnesota? Perhaps the donations could be converted to gas money along a road trip, rather than it taking however longer to reach the flight goal. You would fund their PayPal debit or other plastic to run at gas stations...

or just pay off their credit card after the trip is paid for, so the BTC donations have 30 days to accumulate.

ButterZone, thanks for asking!  My friend and I live pretty far in the Western US - so it's quite a distance.  Enough that a roadtrip to Minnesota would be several days and not an option for her.

The good news is (and an update I can share with everyone) is that between donations on Facebook, here, and a family friend who was able to donate some flight miles, we are now down to only about $50 to go!!!  Grin Grin Grin  So that is wonderful news!  Thanks to everyone here and on FB who donated!

At the end of the day, I likely have to front funds up front while I sell BTC.  But with PayPal I could deposit directly into her account, too, if she wanted to do that.  The advantage with flying is that once there, expenses will be minimal (she will be with her family  her  stepmom).  Since I know her, I went the cash route since that's the easiest to use.  But I still need to front anything I get in BTC and then sell that so I can get it in USD (cash or bank deposit).  It's a somewhat crazy situation  Roll Eyes

Thanks!

Not any BTC, no - she has no way to use it herself.
But cash is a different matter - and I know she appreciated that!
I will have to convert any BTC into cash for her.

I apologize upfront if this is not the correct spot for a post such as this.  I would never normally post something like this, only I have a friend in desperate need.  If this type of post is prohibited, to the forum mods: I apologize... please, let me know and feel free to take this post down if that is the case.

A friend of mine who is only 25 lost her Dad Friday in a horrific car wreck... here is the news link to the story about the wreck:
http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2013/09/28/patrol-head-on-crash-in-s-mn-kills-4-including-11-year-old/

She and her brother are trying to get up to Minnesota to help her Stepmom (who also lost her 11 year old daughter in addition to her husband) and make arrangements.  A round trip pane ticket costs $700, and that's an mount she is far from being able to pull out of her pocket.  When I let her know I'd try a post on the Bitcoin forums, she asked "what's Bitcoin?"  I'd love more than almost anything to have her be introduced to it in such an unforgettable and amazing way.

The address I have generated for donations to her is:
15uUpfx7MRLvSyTVqvsYkHCYXiuiVbVEP9

I assure you, I'm not trying to scam anyone.  Aside from the news story, I'm not sure how else to prove this is the real deal.  If funding exceeds the $700, I intend to refund the BTC to as many people as I can who end up donating in excess of what is needed.

Again, my apologies for this kind of post, and please.. anything you can spare would be appreciated.  Thanks.
