This is really hard to think about the relationship between PGP and Bitcoin. I think Satoshi Nakamoto himself is a "free" developer. Please don't let him get involved with these political figures. Anyway, I don't see Biden clearly True character.

In my opinion, the connection between Biden and Bitcoin can be so vague so we might as well say that the water Satoshi drank when he was just imagining things about and on Bitcoin contributed something to its birth. But I love some stories similar to conspiracy theories or mysteries so let's just pretend that indeed Biden had played a role in the birth of Bitcoin so he will not be playing its enemy but an ally and friend of the cryptocurrency industry.

I think Satoshi didn't have that in mind, probably Satoshi had that in mind that when Internet becomes more popular, privacy will be a commodity because Satoshi knows that authorities will eventually try monitoring and controlling the space in the future. Plsu, Biden's supported policy doesn't directly credit him so it's unlikely.

I'm also wondering why this particular anti-privacy law is being focused on while there are thousands of them, not just in US but all around the world! Governments being anti-privacy is nothing new, that is the whole reason for NSA and similar institutions to exist elsewhere in the world.

And Satoshi didn't focus on privacy in his whitepaper, he was focusing on avoiding centralized trusted third parties.

I think people are overthinking the reasons why Satoshi created Bitcoin, it's no secret that cypherpunks tried to create decentralized digital currency for many years, Bitcoin is the logical conclusion build on top of failures of its predecessors.

Bitcoin is a synthesis of previous studies. I agree with you on that. Research on money and the axiom concepts to create Bitcoin today also started before 1990. So the above hypothesis does not seem very logical.
Bitcoin is about code and ideas. It has nothing to do with politics, and may not even have anything to do with Biden.

Maybe I've managed to miss this all these years but this is the first time I'm hearing a link between "PGP" and "Bitcoin's inception" which makes me wonder whether there is actually any relationship whatsoever.

There may not really be a direct connection, but the authors of the article mostly refer to the fact that one of Satoshi Nakamoto's closest collaborators (Hal Finney) was one of those who worked on the PGP project - although of course from a technical perspective (as you explained) there is an obvious difference between the two projects.

He basically created a só strong censorship environment that it stimulated the development of privacy focused tools, such as pgp and the bitcoin itself.

This is just one interesting assumption we can discuss, that for the emergence of Bitcoin surely a lot of things had to coincide, not only genius and ideas but also the courage to touch the hornet’s nest as Satoshi once mentioned.

Looking at PGP itself, it's initial inception was mainly for "encryption" (symmetric cryptography) and there is no encryption in Bitcoin protocol whatsoever (it is all asymmetric cryptography). Not to mention that the initial design (and even most keys today) was to use RSA while bitcoin is using DSA.

I'm also wondering why this particular anti-privacy law is being focused on while there are thousands of them, not just in US but all around the world! Governments being anti-privacy is nothing new, that is the whole reason for NSA and similar institutions to exist elsewhere in the world.

Lol, It seems the links are not clear between bitcoin and US presidents including Biden or Trump but somehow everything seems similar in value for bitcoin.  Trump's 2017 cycle aside, Biden is a tax expert but the new US tax law on cryptocurrencies is unfair and I don't think it will pass regardless of the degree of impact.  to the entire crypto space.  Market setup will be there but not to a serious extent.  I'm pretty confused if that happens.

Indeed, it was in the 1990s when Biden accidentally inspired Phil Zimmerman to create “Biden sponsored a bill that scared Paul Zimmerman so much that he finally finished the code for PGP, eventually helping Bitcoin to be born.”

Although accidentally,  those early restrictive and anti encryption regulations may have has a positive impact for encryption and privacy tools development after all . However, any degree of privacy is so hard to achieve that I believe Biden had almost acheieve his intentions..

I am not too deep into the history but it's safe to assume that the developments of privacy tools which paved the way for Bitcoin was mainly due to the encroaching of government officials and their agencies.

The current POTUS will probably pat himself in the back knowing he contributed something good to the world with the exception of tax men hehehe. Somebody tell this to one of his men.

Nice find.

Thanks for giving me a new thought. This is indeed quite curious from what you present, I immediately thought for a while, what other elements are an interconnected axis among the many factors which at first glance we assume "wow this is quite explicit and has a close relationship".

But unfortunately from this conundrum we still do not fully say publicly that Biden contributed to the spark of the emergence of Bitcoin. Over time, many sources of articles have uncovered the obscurity of this story. Either a Hall Finey had covered up the truth or was there really no connection at all? this can only be guessed at when we really can no longer trust anyone including the source even if Satoshi is forced to .............

Clearly "the stars" had to be "aligned right" in order to have Bitcoin getting born. I am sure that along the way there have been quite a lot of small bits until this great puzzle got assembled.

Luck is (also) a very important "component" in the history. For example, we are lucky that Bitcoin was born before our death.

Reading some articles from the time before Biden became US president, I found an interesting piece of information about how his actions from the early 1990s inspired Phil Zimmerman to do what was called PGP (Pretty Good Privacy). Biden was then chairman of the Judiciary Committee and passed two bills (the Comprehensive Counter-Terrorism Act and the Violent Crime Control Act.)

One of the collaborators in the development of PGP was also Hall Finey, who is known to have been the first collaborator of Satoshi Nakamoto and who is remembered as the one who received the first BTC transaction right from Satoshi.

While some may say that all these things are not related, I believe that Satoshi worked on his project for a very long time before he made it public, and that he may also have been influenced by the decisions made by Biden in the past.

Indeed, it was in the 1990s when Biden accidentally inspired Phil Zimmerman to create Pretty Good Privacy (PGP). At the time, Biden was chairman of the Judiciary Committee and introduced two bills with strong anti-encryption language: the Comprehensive Counter-Terrorism Act and the Violent Crime Control Act... In other words, Moore said, “Biden sponsored a bill that scared Paul Zimmerman so much that he finally finished the code for PGP, eventually helping Bitcoin to be born.”

Yet, perhaps the most important variable is Joe Biden himself. Historically, he has been against encryption, introducing two bills with strong anti-encryption language while he was in the Senate. In fact, it was his two bills that inspired Hal Finney to work on PGP encryption — as well as perhaps, down the road, bitcoin itself.
