Agree with all the suggestions - buy BTC. Its very low now, and the added benefit is that you don't have to monitor the BTC in your wallet.

For this amount you are better off buying BTC or LTC. 

You will be buying a out of date miner, and will never get it back on money.  It would take quite a bit more for a current gen miner.

The U3 is only $59.  Mind you it will probably be $80-100 through a reseller.

Totally depends on if they want to learn to mine or just take a gamble on crypto.

Kijiji.. there is a guy selling some grid seeds in Toronto with powersupplies for $40..  pretty solid deal if you want to hobby mine.

you can use light desktop wallet like multibit
you won't need to download big blockchain ,it will save you time and you will able to use your wallet within few minutes

Forget mining. Get an account at an exchange, fund it, buy BTC then withdraw to your wallet.

rather then investing that 30$ in miner better you invest this in bitcoin directly

but if you still want to mine bitcoin then you can try cloudmining
