We'll be starting a fresh batch of Dell 750W boards next week, and might get some more DPS800/CommonSlot boards together.

Also we've got some factory-fresh 2Pacs (not seconds, regular sticks) available for immediate shipment.

I now have an official salesperson to be all polite and helpful, so please direct purchasing inquiries, via email, to laura at gekkoscience dot com.

If it's a DPS-800 or an HP Common Slot, my board will work with it. I've tested them on HP-CS from 750W to 1500W.

Cables are no problem.

Which the 1500? or the ones for the dps-800/1200?
Also after some 3 foot cables

Hello Sidehack,

I am looking for a power setup for Avalon 741s in a single rack. My initial calculation is showing about 8 shelves in a 42u rack that would work with the 22cm height 741s, if the max per shelf is 2x 741 miners (21cm width), would I be able to fit 2x DPS 1200s on the same shelf to power each of them?  Would you recommend this setup for 24x7x365 operation?

thanks.

Just to curb some of the dozen-odd emails I get per week -

I am still technically over capacity. I do not forsee having any available space in the next few months. I do not host GPU rigs. I do not particularly like the L3+ either.

Do you have breakout board for HP PSU 1000W with cables?

I don't have any 1500W PSUs on hand right now, the price went up like 60% from my regular supplier but they'll let me know when they can get some in cheaper.

My DPS812 breakout board is advertised as DPS800 and DPS1200 (hence the abbreviated name) but in supporting the DPS1200 it works for the entire HP Common Slot family. I've tested it on 750W, 1200W and 1500W PSUs. So I don't know the part number offhand but if that's what you're running, my board will do it.

I have some 13.5TH S9s in hosting right now running off the HP-CS 1500W Platinum PSU, probably around half a dozen total. I had lit them up on the 1200W initially because they'd power every other S9 I'd ever seen (even if it was a bit of a stretch), but those 13.5TH batch guys are hungry, man. Yes a 1500W will handle them quite nicely even in a high ambient heat.

Thanks for the fast reply and info! The PSU's are the same common slot server power supplies you referred too, and I also have had a very hard time finding them for a reasonable price lately (luckily I finally have one for each miner, plus 1 on hand as a backup). Funny thing is, I recently ordered a fan that had (2) two 120mm fans fastened side-by-side on an older PSU, and the board for the PSU was made by you (has the same GekkoScience logo screened on it as your USB miners). The reason I mention this is because I purchased the majority of my HP 1500W PSU's as a kit from the same company I just purchased the fan from (I'm sure you know who). I am currently using the REV 7 breakout boards that came with the HP 1500W PSU kits, but just assumed you likely make better boards since I know and trust the caliber of your products. Since this batch of S9's require 1500 watts minimum, and I am seeing way more HW errors than on my other miners, I wasn't sure if there was a better option to power them.

There are many other HP power supplies available that can provide much more power (and cost less than the HP-CS 1500W), but would require some sort of solution in order to power the miner (something like the HP 2400W BLC7000 seen HERE). How difficult would it be to figure out a method to use them for mining and then manufacture it while you already have your hands full with so many other projects? Lastly, would I get any benefit from upgrading my HP-CS 1500W PSU's to your boards from the current x-adapter REV 7 boards I'm using if a new project is out of the question? Thanks again for your help and advice!  Wink

Hey sidehack! I was wondering if you have any breakout boards for my HP 1500W PSU's running my S9's (the platinum server PSU's with a yellow sticker, model number HSTNS-PL33), or any better power solutions in general. I was also hoping to pick your brain a bit about running recent Antminer S9 batches (13.5TH/s) using only one HP 1500W PSU. Do you think the 1500W is sufficient to run one S9 on its own, and what other power option(s) might be better for this purpose?

I know you are still backed up with several ongoing and future products, but was hoping you/GekkoScience sold something to power a 13.5TH/s Antminer S9 sufficiently (or at least help power it). Please feel free to PM me if you prefer and/or need more specific details. As always, thank you very much!

Bumping this guy since it's been a while. I have DPS1200 kits in stock. Not a lot of PSUs but those can be had readily, however I have stacks of boards and cables on hand.

Also don't overlook the 2Pac 2xBM1384 stickminer, a new Compac version that's twice as good as the last one.

Development is ongoing in Bitfury 16nm miners (2-chip stick, 6-chip and 11-chip pods, 33-chip S1/S3/S5 refit boards) and a 7+1 port USB stud hub with adjustable per-port current limiting.

I've also got a bunch of available hosting space at 8.9 cents per kilowatt-hour, about $65 per kilowatt per month, which includes VPN remote access. No minimum, no contract; my hosting is built specifically for the little guy.

Yeah, the DPS1200 can be internally volt-adjusted from about 11.8 to 13.0V which means a 54-chip S7 can be taken up above 5TH (I've got one in hosting that pulls more like 5.3-5.4) or down to about 0.22J/GH (about 4TH/900W) without any real hacking.

Been running S7 and S9 (and even some S4+) off this PSU for a year with no issues. I've also just assembled the first test board of a new improved layout and it seems to work fine, so I may end up getting a fresh batch started sometime soon.

Bump for some updates.

I have pared down some of the inactive items, notably the Dell 750W boards and kits. This board is currently in prototype for a new improved version which will allow both screw terminals and PCIe 6-pin jacks. It will also be designed to pair up with other D750 kits more readily for single-switch control of multiple supplies (which means a 1500W single rail from 120V is possible for about $100) and should implement thermostatic automatic fan control.

I have added 1200W and 1500W kit listings to the DPS812 board section. I think these are pretty great.

I have added a new product - a 5V adapter board intended to take in 12V and provide 5V and 12V output for GPU risers and other PC innards.

I also updated the cables section with more information - I can now manufacture 6-pin splitters, 6+2 cables and 4-pin Molex cables, as well as provide sheathing for cables at an additional cost.

New products are in development, including a current-gen Compac stickminer, a stout powered USB hub, and an ATX24 adapter for motherboard power from a server PSU.

Bump for DPS1200/800 boards are in stock.

I'm also working on prototypes for some hardware to assist with building GPU rigs powered from server supplies (no ATX required), which includes custom cabling. I can do 6+2 cables, splitters and adapters, and 4-Molex connections for powering GPU risers.

I also will soon have prototypes for the new Dell 750W board, which are made to take PCIe 6-pin jacks for quick cabling and can be paired to load-balance and operate from a single on/off switch very easily. This provides you with probably the cheapest reliable/reputable option to run an S7 or S9 off 120V power.

does the 1200/800 board work on the dps800gba psu?

Is there like a molex cable or something that I can buy so that I can connect an ATX PSU to the remote on for the 750W interface board?  I'd like to setup an eth rig to run off a smaller ATX power supply and then have the video cards run by the 750W and would prefer if they turned on and off together.  From what I read on the 750W interface boards there's a pin and a dip switch for remote on but I'm not very technical at these things.  Or perhaps there's a USB cable that I can connect to the remtoe on pin?

Bump, I've still got DPS812 boards available. I'm looking into redesigning the Dell 750W board to take screw terminals or 6-pin jacks like the new DPS812 board and, if the right thing or two comes together, I'll probably be doing a batch soon. One idea is to offer a two-supply kit with all the cabling required to power an S7 or S9 for about $100, and these would do it off 120VAC.

well if you have a two-supply kit for an s9 at 100 and able to do 120 or 240 ac  it would be nice.

120 volt players are stuck with  the evga 1600 g2 at 300 the evga p2 at 350 and the evga 1600 t2 at 400

I have 120 and 240 available.

I have 4  s-9's on order and  I would not mind ordering 1 of these prototype kits for 100

i would like to see how practical it is for a 120 volt guy.

I know with proper setup the s-9 should see it as 1 psu.

and it is about 50 usd lower then the antminer psu which needs 220 volt.

The second batch of Compac stick miners should be appearing within a week or two. I'm a bit behind schedule on manufacturing for them.

We're also sold out on 750W PSU boards right now, but another batch should be ready around the first of December.

I'm working on an 8-chip pod miner that takes a standard CPU cooler, made with recycle parts. There's a trade-in program going to happen, where you can trade old or dead miners for these small miners. They'll run about the same efficiency curve as the Compac stickminer (0.3-0.55W/GH or so) with an expected draw around 15W for 44GH at the bottom and about 120W for 200GH at the top. Voltage will be software-adjustable. More details in this thread:  https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bm1384-pod-miner-plus-trade-inrecycling-an-interest-and-feasibility-poll-1203190
If that sounds like something you'd get in on, please cast a vote. I'll use the results of that poll to determine how many I want to make.

We also will soon have prototypes and get started running out a batch of new server supply boards. The board will work with DPS800 and DPS1200 supplies, and any other PSU which uses the same pinout. You'll have the option of either our standard screw terminals (8 positions per rail), or 6-pin PCIe connectors (10 per board). All the favorite features will be included - external on, power good signal, 3.3V standby, and the optional 5VDC aux supply.

We're also in the process of upgrading our hosting infrastructure and adding about 50KW of power, which I should have online by the first of December. We'll be dropping the standard rate to about $65 per KW-month and there is no minimum power draw. As always, VPN remote access is free. We'll probably be offering some nifty packages like discounted PSU purchases or free use of PSUs for new customers on things like the S7 or Avalon6. This is deliberately a teaser update and more details will follow because I don't have them all yet.

GekkoScience is going to be pretty darn busy the rest of the year, but it should be pretty great.

Yeah, I'm pretty much at the bottom of my stash of 2KW gear. Buy this guy's. He's been screwed enough and needs a break.

Scrappy, you ever get anything out of Technobit or are they still MIA?

Oh also, not sure if anyone's following the dev over in the hardware thread but we're about ready to start selling BM1384 stickminers (the same chip on the S5) that come in around 0.3W/GH with adjustable clock and voltage. It's technically a preorder, but if you've been watching the dev and review threads you know there's zero dev cost or time coming from the "preorder" funding. It's already designed and thoroughly tested, with test units delivered to 8 other people for review and such. Sales will go to bulk purchase of parts and I start building 'em and shipping as soon as the parts come in. MacEntyre is going to be manufacturing for Europe sales and valkir will be arranging a Canada group buy.

Bump for we've got a fresh batch of 750W gear in stock (PSUs, boards, whatever).

I'm pretty much out of stock on DPS2K hardware. If Scrappy Do (mentioned above) still has some gear, buy it from him. He got rolled over pretty hard by Technobit and, after buying a bunch of PSUs from us (that did get delivered) and a butt-ton of Minion boards from Technobit (that probably never actually existed, and certainly were never delivered) he's not doing so hot. So if you want 2KW stuff talk to him first.

We're also working on something for the cheapskates, a basic Dell 750W PSU with hard-soldered 18" cables, zero fan speed control and a jump header to turn it on and off. $32 apiece, minimum order ten, allow at least a full day for assembly.

Also I don't know if anyone here is following our miner dev thread on the Hardware forum (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/gekkoscience-bm1384-project-development-discussion-995675) but the BM1384 (AntMiner S5 chip) stickminer is nearing completion. I should have a few sent out within a few days to eight testers to verify they work properly and do in fact exist, then I'll announce the full product specs and start taking orders. It will, unfortunately, be a preorder scenario (at least initially) because economies of scale and limited-funding dev project and such. But if a USB stick miner that'll do about 8GH off stock USB power and is clockable up to about 12GH off a 0.9A USB port (or higher if you can keep everything cool), with built-in voltage adjustment for over and underclocking, is something you're interested in (if nothing else, for a great learning tool), keep an eye out in the next couple weeks.

Thank you so much for the mention Sidehack. Very outstanding person you are. I have at least 6 boards and PSU's I can spare of the 2000w and 3 or 4 of the 750w boards and PSUs. CABLES FOR DAYS!!!! In various lengths as well. I am willing to make deals so please send me a message if interested. This stuff needs a home, or as the wife says, "Well it ain't doing nothing now so it has got to go.

Hi there,

What would you charge for PCI-E cables with no hook on the end? Basically 6 pin to bare wire? I need about 8.

Depends on length.

Are you splicing your own 6 pin connectors onto wire? Or do you have pre-cut lengths?

So, some updates. We're running low on everything except cables. 750W stuff is inbound, but we're getting pretty dry on DPS2K material.

Scrappy just got ahold of me and he still has plenty of stock of the stuff I sold him last fall for those Technobit Minion boards which never appeared.

So if anyone wants 750W stuff, please be patient. Anyone wanting DPS2K stuff, contact Scrappy Do. Anyone wanting mining hardware, probably avoid Technobit.

Oh speaking of mining hardware, I've been busy for the last month or so working on stuff for the Bitmain BM1384 (the chip on the S5) and hopefully in a week or so I'll be distributing some prototypes for testing and review for a USB stick miner I expect to run 8GH at stock power (2.5W) but capable of 16GH if you got a good enough hub. It integrates adjustable core voltage too. I know I know, complain about how USB miners never have an ROI (which is false, they don't have positive ROI and I twitch every time someone misuses that term) but this thing should be a really nifty and affordable way to learn the basics of mining, and the basics of hardware manipulation by under/overclocking and under/overvolting which can be pretty fun. The next task will be a two-chip stick miner designed to run at least 30-35GH if you have a really good hub (stock will probably be about 16GH) and then a full 18-chip board made to be run either standalone as a quiet desktop miner or four of them would mount on an S1 chassis and turn it into an improved S5 (with adjustable voltage so a better bottom-end efficiency).

But the point of this BUMP is to let people know we're running low on PSU stuff and Scrappy Do is selling off his dozen or so DPS-2000BB PSUs that are probably still in the box I sent them in last August so if you need 'em get 'em from him.

BTW this project is amazing... i would love to be involved with the proto's unless they are all spoken for!

As an update - D750 boards are back in stock. We're still manufacturing so there might be a day or two delay in shipping an order but all parts are in.

We are, unfortunately, almost out of PSUs (probably less than 10 available right now) but I should be restocking this weekend.

DPS2K stuff is still in stock for the time being.

Nope, no features so no fan control - just six 6-pin cables and an on/off jumper. It's more of a bare industrial solution, really.

ADDITIONALLY - I have modded D750 PSUs (4 16AWG 18" cables hard-soldered, and an on/off jumper) for $32 for a limited time. I'm offering this with in mind the people who got burned by Bitmain's $99 price hike on S5s. I know it's not a lot but every bit helps, and that's what we at Gekkoscience try to do is help.

I have a limited quantity at present so it might take a day or two to ship. I think I can still ship the same as 750W kits, 3 PSUs to a $15 flat-rate box inside the US.

Do the 4 soldered cables have 6 pin PCIe connectors on them or are they just bare cables?  Also sorry if this has been answered before, but I know the D750 boards have some kind of fan control.  Does this reduce the incredible noise those fans make?

Thanks.

Yes, go right ahead. Also, Scrappy, I've been meaning to formally apologize for telling you to calm down about and be patient about the Technobit minion boards you ordered. Turns out I was quite wrong, and it only looked like they were actually working hard to get things taken care of. I never saw a single board of the 50-odd I was supposed to get for hosting for multiple customers. So yeah, you go right ahead and sell off those PSUs since I know that's what they were for.

Ty Brother for that. I am sitting on a fat stack of cables man!! LOL Not to mention boards and PSU's. Perhaps send me a pm? I called you once like 2 years ago and lost the number. (I ordered an asicminer mod) Smiley I need this stuff gone man. Any help Greatly appreciated!

As an update, parts are inbound to finish out the next batch of 750W boards. We've got the big stuff, now waiting on the little stuff so we'll be back in stock and selling by the end of this week. We still have some DPS2K boards available, and about a dozen DPS2K PSUs in stock.

Sidehack, I do not mean to steal business, but you had stated in a earlier thread that it was ok. So I ask, can I resell stock bought from you used or unused in the same thread? You had said yes before, I just want to make sure. I have more cables and converters coming out my ass than I know what to do with! Not to mention power supplies!!!!

We had a run on 750W stock last week, so we're out of boards. More materials have already been ordered, and we'll be assembling as soon as they arrive, but that leaves us about two weeks out from having solid stock. We have many PSUs in stock.

Cables are still available, and I can do custom configurations like bare ends or PCIe on both ends, whatever lengths you need.

We also still have good stock of DPS-2000BB boards and PSUs.

Just booked up some space, but we still have 15KW of hosting space available.

All PSUs and interface boards are fully stocked, and we just got in a shipment of wire. We make our own cables, not ordered out in bulk from China or anything, so we can do custom batches with different connectors and lengths and such.

What would you like to know? I guess a lot of things would be answered with last fall's discussion when we set up hosting at the start, found in QuiveringGibbage's Hosting Directory and Reputation thread (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.7814500).

A few details are changed since the initial discussion - for instance, we're not charging for remote access. We have full credentialed VPN access to a /24 subnet per customer. The rate pricing as described is currently what we offer, but that'll be simplified to a flat KWh rate after the upgrade is completed and filled. There's no "discounted rate plans" or anything, where if you pay six months down you get a better rate or anything. Everyone is treated the same, everyone gets the same rate. I certainly wouldn't complain about paying in advance though, just throwing that out there.
We do have a 15KW-per-customer limit, mostly because we'd rather see many small miners get the benefit of low hosting fees than one already-rich dude. We'll probably up that to 20KW or so when we get the expansion completed.
The setup is open shelving, so we can take just about anything in. There's no requirement for it being a closed-box, stackable, rack-mountable what-have-you.
I also have some special racks set up just for Prismas, metal-wrapped for fireproofing and suspended for good airflow around all surfaces. To date I have had zero Prismas catch fire in my setup. That probably doesn't matter a whole lot anymore what with the refunds and Prisma 2.0, but hey. It's there if anyone needs it.

Any hosting customer in need of a power supply can purchase one of our server PSUs at a discounted rate. We'll probably also have discounted RPi available for machines requiring them.

Bump for we have approaching 100KW of power supplies in stock (including a fresh restock on DPS-2000bb) and ready to roll.

We also have 20KW of room available in the hosting facility, at a bit less than $100 per KW per month. We've handed off the proposal for increasing our capacity by 60KW and reducing rates to $72 per KW per month (to be specific, flat $.10 per KWh) and hope to hear favorable news on that soon.

I haven't done a whole lot of cross-comparisons there, but I do know forum user tolip_wen runs a lot of DPS-2000bb stuff in load-balance. He likes to put a 2KW load on a pair of coupled 2KW PSUs so they run at 50% load (which is at or near optimal efficiency point) and that gives inbuilt redundancy (as if one PSU kicks, the other can still handle the full load).

In general, staying around half power will get the best efficiency on most any switching power supply. I would also venture to say the DPS-2000 probably has a higher peak efficiency than the 750W, but for supplies in good condition it's probably less than two or three percent on average. At two percent difference (say, 91% vs 93%) and 2KW loading, this translates to a bit under 50W extra continuous draw, so about $3.50 per month extra. That's not terribly significant, but if your utility rates are high (that estimate is around ten cents per KWh) it adds up. Setup time and proper bus wiring add to initial costs as well, more substantially for the many-small-PSUs setup than for the few-large-PSUs setup.

Great updated post Sidehack. I enjoy seeing the server power supply options being enhanced.

I am researching the efficiency of running a balanced load using the DPS-2000BB and in general what running a balanced load does for me. I hope to answer many questions for myself or prove them. It "sounds" better to run 3 2000 watt balanced power supplies with 90% efficiency rating on 240 than running the equivalent in 750 watt supplies on the same input. O(obviously you spend more on connectors and such, but at the end of the month does it make a difference on the power bill? That is what I would like to show myself anyway.

The work looks great, I appreciate you taking the time to talk with me, and look forward to working with you on projects the future.

So us guys here at GekkoScience have been working with server PSUs for going on three years. Since the beginning we've added some things, changed some things so we need a basic list of "here's everything we have". Info is sorta scattered all over the forum and, in some cases, outdated. So, here's the fresh and complete list.
All of our interface boards and cables are designed and assembled in-house using domestically-sourced materials. We do not endorse slavery.

PM me or email [email protected] for purchasing information

2Pac 2xBM1384 USB Stick Miner

This is an upgrade to the Compac stick miner, incorporating two mining ASICs instead of one. This means that, for the same total hashrate, each chip runs at a higher efficiency increasing the overall device efficiency substantially. This stick can hit 33GH from the same power the original Compac needed for about 22GH, a 50% increase. It's built for overclocking just like the original. The cgminer driver has been rewritten from the ground up to better support both this and the original 1-chip Compac for smoother operation.
The picture above is a prototype shot; the release version (shipping now) has a silver heatsink. I'll update that sometime.
Pricing: $30 each any quantity, $10 flat shipping per order.

Dual-Purpose DPS800/DPS1200 Interface Board

This board is designed to work with both DPS800 and HP Common Slot (PSU family with options from about 500 up to 1500W) edge-connector PSUs. It can be made with either 4-position screw terminals (two rows per rail, 16 screws total) or 12x PCIe 6-pin jacks for quick connectivity. The board uses the same 10-pin header common to all GekkoScience breakout boards, providing External Turnon, 3.3V Standby, POK and optional 5VDC aux supply. On this board, there is no Current Sense, Current Share or External Fan functionality. 5VDC aux supply is not populated on standard boards.

Pricing:

QTYPrice
1-9$32
10-24$30
25-49$28
50-99$27
100+$25
The additional 5VDC aux is $3 extra per board and may require additional lead time.

DPS1200 PSU Kit (S7/S9 compatible)

This kit includes one DPS-1200FBA 1200W-rates server PSU, one GekkoScience DPS812 board, and ten 18" PCIe double-ended 16AWG cables. Kit pricing is $80, a savings of around 10% over buying everything individually.
The DPS-1200FBA PSU is rated to deliver 900W from 120VAC and 1200W from 200-240VAC, but it's capable of better than that - I have run S4+, S7 and S9 miners off this supply. If you know what you're doing, voltage is internally adjustable from 11.8V-12.8V

PRICE: $80 each

PCIe to 5V/12V Adapter (4-Molex)

The board is built to take in 12V from two 6-pin PCIe jacks (though only one may be necessary depending on loads) and outputs both 5V and 12V on three 4-pin jacks. It is intended to convert 12V to 5/12V for 4-pin Molex peripheral connectors for powering GPU risers, hard drives and other things required by GPU rigs and standard PCs.
The board can, with moderate cooling airflow, support up to 20A on both 12V and 5V output lines simultaneously, making it quite capable for powering multiple GPU risers. The board has three screw holes for secure mounting. Pictured is a functional prototype; the final will be slightly different - output jacks will be straight (like the input jacks) and two LEDs will indicate the presence of input 12V and output 5V power.

PRICE: $15 each (cables not included, see below)

Cables

We also manufacture 16AWG and 18AWG cables in-house, with ends including PCIe 6-pin, 6+2-pin for GPUS, and 4-Molex for powered risers and peripherals, as well as a variety of crimp ends like #6 fork, 1/4" quick-connect, and ring terminals.
Sheathing may be available for an extra charge.

A standard PCIe double-ended cable, made with 16AWG wire and no sheathing, costs $3 for 18", $3.30 for 24" and $4 for 36". If you need something, PM me and I'll give you a bid.

Basic Miner Hosting

We operate a small hosting facility with an open shelf setup so any miner is welcome (not just rack-mountable units), and VPN remote access to all miners comes standard. Pricing is a flat $0.089 per KWh of use. Billing is monthly, no-contract.

Shipping

Shipping tends to be through USPS Priority, or FedEx for large domestic orders. Most small orders ship for $10. 750W kits ship in Medium Flat-Rate boxes, up to three to a box, for $15.

Coming Soon (I hope):
