i'm mining from a laptop but limiting threads to 2, to use only 50% of CPU so i don't burn it. how long do you think a laptop can survive like this? have you ever tried?
I used to mine some ocassionally with my lucky core i3 laptop. Never used more than 1 thread.

Thx guys i'll give it a test

To avoid burning my laptop how can i reduce the cpu usage? is there some cmd-line option to slow it down a bit?

For CPU coin you can use the wallet and type 'setgenerate true ' to mine. If you are using an external miner you can specify the number of threads with -t.

My hardware:
CPU Intel i5 quad core @2.27 Ghz
RAM 4GB DDR3
GPU Nvidia Geforce GT320M 1GB shared memory

Umm... I hope you know what you're doing.

My 630M gets 28KH/s on a good day, with my CPU getting 16KH/s consistently . Your 320M would probably underperform your CPU.

But yeah... whatever floats your boat. Use cudaminer and pooler-cpuminer.

What coin is profitable with a mid-grade CPU (intel i3/i5)? Are there any?

You can check out the CPU coins like YAC, CPR, OFF, QRK. If you want to gamble you can try XPM. Prices are low at the moment but it may have a big future.
Anyone trying to mine with a nVIDIA, its simply not worth it. DO yourselves a favour and play some games on it.

You're going to destroy your little laptop, your hash rates are going to be a joke, and the electricity is going to cost 20-100x the amount of money you will make from the coins.

Keep that in mind when you decide to mine with your hardware.

use cudaminer for your gfx card https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-cudaminer-ccminer-cuda-based-mining-applications-windowslinuxmacosx-167229
and poolers cpu miner for your cpu https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/an-even-more-optimized-version-of-cpuminer-poolers-cpuminer-cpu-only-55038

be sure to have a good psu if you run both at the same time

your gpu probably isnt fast enough to mine and your cpu will probably be too slow as well
id recommend looking for a cpu coin and mine that instead

I've launched bfgminer with this basic command line

Code:
bfgminer --scrypt -u myworkername --pass=mypasssword --url=ftc.give-me-coins.com:3336

It started mining but it didn't accept any shares in 5+ minutes and it's like it does not even detect my CPUs!!

My hardware:
CPU Intel i5 quad core @2.27 Ghz
RAM 4GB DDR3
GPU Nvidia Geforce GT320M 1GB shared memory

From the image you can read "HW: 0/none", that none means no mining devices detected, neither CPUs nor GPUs
WTF why??

About the GPU, well i've not downloaded the OpenCL driver yet, maybe i have to put OpenCL.dll into the bfgminer's folder or something like that... but at least it would have been mining with the cpus.

thank you 4 your help
