Well, this is how FUD goes. It's like a disease spreading death attempting to erase bitcoin's existence. We might be seeing more of this in the coming year 2018 but we all know bitcoin will always prevail and what doesn't kill it, will only make it stronger.
I think we are going to see even more FUD in this year, I'm sure we are going to see a lot of coins claiming they can solve the issue with the fees also I think we are going to see a lot of bitcoin cash supporters telling us, told you so, and I'm sure we are going to see even more bakers saying that bitcoin is nothing but a scam, we know it is not true but we do not have access to the media.

FUD is good. FUD is needed. FUD is fuel. Because most of the serious investors are waiting for dips to buy. So when they buy a dip it leaves the panic sellers nowhere to rebuy than a higher price than before the FUD even started. For every red candle there is two green candles. But without the red candles itll just stagnate.

FUD around bitcoin as well other digital currencies were quite common. Some were circulated to overcome the growth of one asset over the other generating panic among the investors. This needs to be understood by the user, and taking perfect decisions by that time will help with a bigger earning.

I remember mentioning I own BTC to family members a few weeks back and someone said "Bitcoin..? Are you sure that's legal?" True story. Without any actual information or facts, they assumed it was something shady just because of random stuff they had heard on the news. I imagine it's very common everywhere for people to have the wrong idea about it.

At least with futures trading and potentially Goldman Sachs launching a trading desk soon and having BTC assets on hand, it will give some legitimacy to it.
I think that in the near future there will be no worries about the legitimacy of earning money on crypto currency, because almost all governments are interested in implementing crypto currency in their countries.

Was at a BBQ a few days ago and Bitcoin was a hot topic.

What had really frustrated me was when someone said "I read the creator of Bitcoin has sold all his BTC, Bitcoin is going down". I was WTF are you reading?, then i remembered the story of the founder of bitcoin.com sold all his BTC. Had to explain that he wasn't the creator of BTC. No one knows for sure who created BTC etc etc.. That, what he had ready was FUD FUD and more FUD!

Then last night, the same thing from someone else! "Creator of Bitcoin has sold all his BTC" and he started to push XRP is the way to go. That was when i really lost it! and told him to go FUCK himself.

We are losing the FUD battle! This is bullshit. It is causing potential new users to opt out of BTC and possibly into alt-coins.

Sly

This is the bitter truth about bitcoin . Not only is bitcoin misinterpreted , it is misintepreted in the most worst way . Bitcoin is still new to many people and all they know about bitcoin is that it is widely used in gambling . I remember when i told my friend about bitcoin and she said that " oh! so you are gambling , THATS ILLEGAL !! " . This is the mindset of maximum people about bitcoin . Some people amusingly say , that you "play" with bitcoin . Is it a game ? No one even properly knows about its origin and purpose .
In India , Bitcoin may get banned . Why ? Because the government think bitcoin is still too small in India . This mindset is too difficult to transform .

I guess the simple explanation to things is that people chose what they want to believe irrespective of whether its the truth or not just like how some people will hold the view that bitcoin creator is now supporting BCH or BTG or any of the numerous forks out there. You really don't need to go on the attack mode, explain and if obvious they are not ready to listen, just let them wallow in the beauty of their ignorance and that is the best that could happen to someone who is not willing to learn.

Its the typical of panic people, a little down they will call btc is over, btc is not good being left by the creator and so on, but when it go up all praise bitcoin, that kind of person only want to take advantage and profit, the person never appreciated bitcoin

Problem that we are having here is that market is drived by spculation and nothing else. We can create value of certain coins but the problem is that many of them don't have real use case. Which is why fake news, propaganda and all other things can have huge impact on coin prices. You have noticed it, I have noticed it... but problem is that people don't care as long as they are making money.

OP thing with Roger selling his BTC to BCH and convincing others that BTC is unstable bla bla bla, is just because he swaped coins for BTH and want to profit more out of his decission. We've seen it how some big influencers between crypto space can control the market movments this happens as a result of people not willing to think clearly but they rather follow the masses.

Let noobs be happy with their shitcoin gains while it lasts. Once it all crumbles back to being worthless and only bitcoin shines, they will learn the hard lesson by first hand experience, it's then when they realize they should have cashed these altcoin gains into bitcoin and held, instead of converting it all over fiat again.

The key moment will be during the next financial recession, as their fiat makes their purchasing power go down while bitcoin saves the day once again.

First you learn to not hold alts, then you learn to not hold fiat.

Some coins will still be there along side bitcoin, theres no dubt in that and you can't deny it. But yes many shitcoins are worthless and are simply used to throw your money in and profit from them. We still need fiat but if some crisis happen in future people might move to BTC I can agree, good point there.

UPDATE!

I have stop talking about Bitcoin to all my friends and family. I just smile and change the topic or ignore, when ever alt-crypto and that Ponzi Token, XRP, comes up. I over hear them saying they just bought LTC and XRP. Nothing about buying BTC.

And I know what they are thinking, you said to invest in BTC and not XRP. Now look what we have got, I just turned $400 into $5k.

People are going to get hurt when XRP falls back to nothing.

in my opinion it was not a FUD but instead it was a mistake from the writer themself.
to put it bluntly, they are forcing it to make it happen.
basically they have zero knowledge about Bitcoin, but in order to get an attention from people they wrote that kind of article.
all they want to know is creating a hot topic and get a lot of audience in return.
it was not the first time we found it,
in my local country i found a lot of similar topic.
they are talking about Bitcoin Cash as Bitcoin, because both of them wore 'Bitcoin' on their name and something like that.

These people are just idiots. They don't analyze anything and just follow whatever FUD they come across to be true and they just don't stop with that. They try their best and spend their energy to spread this FUD to many people they know.It creates a negative publicity among the public about bitcoin.

I can't blame them, the bitcoin and alt currencies are yet to be regulated so it really is much as standing on a very thin rope that could snap anytime. What I'll recommend they do is study, read and understand.

I agree with you.  What people fail to do is due diligence. They join the crypto investment and trading community with insufficient knowledge base.

We can't really deny the fact the bitcoin and crypto is gaining popularity everyday. A lot of investors or newcomers to the market. But what's funny is  this set of investors who did join really thinks that they can really profit in short amount of time. Sort of get rich scheme. They flock the market buying bitcoin at top price, and when it falls, they are the first one to dump the coins instead of holding it, they panic because of the FUD being spread around the forum. Just really sad that most of them get lost around the crypto industry because they didn't do their homework. They thought that's is very easy to earn, and they found out the hard way that it is not. Most of them leave scratching their head and didn't know what happen to their money and disappointed on bitcoin and never comeback. While others decided to remain but they incurred a high price.

When you invite the mass of idiots to invest it is a double edged sword. They are only following the hype and they dont really even know what bitcoin is or how it works. For this same reason they will just as easily invest in whatever else is trending like Ripple and there is no way you will be able to convince them otherwise and you just end up sounding like a pretentious hipster asshole. The future is the government trying to kill crypto by having the media make everyone think something else is bitcoin - something owned by Bank of America that transacts instantly - while quietly passing regulations that make the real Bitcoin harder and harder to use.
I guess that is a war that we will have to expect from bitcoin for now and that is one that is going to be pretty hard to wave off, but I am optimistic it would pass.

It is just unfortunate that we have some gullible fellows who will just take everything thrown at them easily without even making some research and anyone who really wants to invest in XRP can go ahead and I really want to see how all their craziness and the government shenanigans lead to.

It's official, people can't understand BTC, except they are tutored like KG. The misconception always arises from separating bitcoin from the anchor - the blockchain. As long as people see those two as two different entities or as only a means to an end, then they'll always end up at the rear end of gullibility.

Those people who have been spreading rumors about bitcoins death are probably the ones who will do panic selling when the price of bitcoin go to a dip. They are just scared about whats happening in bitcoin.

On the other hand they could be creating the panic so people can dump for FUD and those who created the panic will buy at relatively cheap prices and have more stash of BTC. It's logical, market manipulation is the only way to stay ahead of the game. More BTC more money, after all it's BTC they are after not the 'blockchain'. So as long I don't see people's hate speech about blockchain technology, then BTC is as safe an investment as any other.

of course their corrupt government is going to call bitcoin Ponzi, try to ban it and constantly attack it. bitcoin is ruining all their evil plans.
The same thoughts that are starting to get into my mind on what's really happening there. I'm not an India so I'm not pretty sure on what's happening there and who to believe on what's the truly happenings there and when to these FUDs for sure their government is quite scared to it.

Losing what? This is just normal. I remember that when btc having a dip, Jamie Dimon always try to FUD it more. In short, they are taking advantage of this situation to bring it down more but it will not work on me and those who really believe in btc.

Stop worrying about what other people are doing and worry about yourself, I tried to get my friends in bitcoin and they all said the same thing, now they know that I have huge profits and they got nothing to show for, while I love my friends I cannot supplicate them to join bitcoin that is a decision they needed to take by themselves, now they say they do not want to join now that the price is this high and want the price to crash, so in short they are probably never going to join and are going to be left behind.

That should be expected. There are FUDs everywhere and the funny thing about FUD is that people tend to listen to them a lot and then you will see some fools who even tend to spread them the more and feeling like they already know everything rather than just doing some little bit of research to be sure they really know the right thing.

I guess we will just have to keep living with that and experience will end up teaching them the lessons they really deserve.

the India situation is very different right now. they have been trying to fuck their people over for some time now with lots of currency shenanigans they have been pulling like invalidating their 1000(?) notes.

and people over there have been buying bitcoin like crazy. at any time when you check out bitcoin price over at India you can see it is at least 30% higher than the rest of the world because there is lack of in-flow of bitcoin into the country but there is an increasing demand for the an exit out of the hands of the corrupt government.
watch this video of Andreas Antonopoulos - Currency Wars and Bitcoin's Neutrality

well this is an ugly truth regarding bitcoin price and its market. it is filled with a lot of newbies who mostly want to get rich overnight so they sign up on places like coinbase for the ease of use to buy hold and dump at the same place. they never even know what they bought and sold! it may as well be some fake numbers on their screen...

but this is how it is. there is not much we can do to change it. as long as the market is filled with idiots, it will be easy to spread FUD and make them sell their coins cheap and generally make irrational decisions.

knowing that it is How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love FUD Wink
And that is an issue we are going to keep seeing as bitcoin keeps being a speculative asset than a currency. Most of the newbies today really do not know anything and all they are just after like you said is to get rich overnight and that really sucks and I am looking forward to when the scaling issue will be solved so we can start getting real life usage of bitcoin than it just being an asset filled with a lot of speculation and FUD.

I want to keep as little fiat as possible, but that is just not possible because bitcoin cannot be used for everyday items. It's only good if you're buying a Lamborghini or benz....
I really hope the scaling stuff is resolved but for now it seems we are still stuck with it as no one really knows where the whole LN thing is even going right now but I am still optimistic anyway that things would change. Nevertheless, the rate at which FUD is being spread can really be annoying and I understand the OP's plight at the moment he unfortunately listened to some of those crappy talks from people who does not even know anything.

I wonder where did they get those informations? Do they have any concrete evidence supporting that? Anyway, it's better for you if you just respect their opinions, never argue because it's a waste of time, and stay away from them.
Then last night, the same thing from someone else! "Creator of Bitcoin has sold all his BTC" and he started to push XRP is the way to go. That was when i really lost it! and told him to go FUCK himself.
This makes me laugh. They are silly to say that XRP will be the next big thing, if there is, then I'm sure that it would be ETH. (only if it beats btc although a little bit impossible)
We are losing the FUD battle! This is bullshit. It is causing potential new users to opt out of BTC and possibly into alt-coins.
I don't think so. It's expected that new users already have adequate knowledge before entering crypto world so I'm pretty confident that they already knew the power of btc and still choose it over alts because it is the thing they can surely rely on.

We might be seeing more of this in the coming year 2018 but we all know bitcoin will always prevail and what doesn't kill it, will only make it stronger.

Bitcoin has been subject to all sorts of fud since waaaay back in the very early years. Currently we have to deal with various camps thinking that their shitty fork coin is the "real" Bitcoin, like BCash is trying to do. From another side we have fud purely being meant to make people sell their coins and to trigger a correction, so those behind all this will be able to buy back lower. And there will probably be more reasons as to why someone would want to spread fud. It all comes down to greed in the end, and in no shape or form will it affect Bitcoin in the long term, otherwise we wouldn't be where we are right now. If fud manages to get the price to tank in the extreme short term, use it in your advantage to buy in lower. Smiley

FUD is everywhere so don't stressed yourself about that.

Let others spread FUD because at the end of the day, it's up to community to decide on what way they will go. You can take an advantage too by riding the trend.

We are losing the FUD battle! This is bullshit. It is causing potential new users to opt out of BTC and possibly into alt-coins.

How come those new users will not understand first how crypto trading works before risking their money. If they will open their precious mind and will try to understand everything, they can take advantage of both btc and other alts without the mindset that they will opt out on BTC.

Those people who have been spreading rumors about bitcoins death are probably the ones who will do panic selling when the price of bitcoin go to a dip. They are just scared about whats happening in bitcoin.
There are those who believe, they do not at least understanding the bitcoin and only buy bitcoin as trend. Bitcoin is a hot news in recent times. many people bought Bitcoin and push prices up very high. so the FUD has made them panic. if the investor is long the volatility is too familiar story

These people are just idiots. They don't analyze anything and just follow whatever FUD they come across to be true and they just don't stop with that. They try their best and spend their energy to spread this FUD to many people they know.It creates a negative publicity among the public about bitcoin.

Well, this is how FUD goes. It's like a disease spreading death attempting to erase bitcoin's existence. We might be seeing more of this in the coming year 2018 but we all know bitcoin will always prevail and what doesn't kill it, will only make it stronger.
The truth is that they can really not make anything change. There has been FUD right from the start and we just cannot avoid it. Not even only about newbies, have you heard what some government of some countries are saying, or what some media guys say or write about bitcoin. Unfortunately, this keeps making bitcoin even more interesting as more awareness is created and only those who are smart enough will be able to get the best of it without being stupid enough to listen to FUDs.

"they" or "you" mistook it? it seems like you just shot yourself in the foot, or in other words you FUD yourself Smiley

the article clearly is talking about litecoin and creator of litecoin,  "creator of the world’s fifth-biggest cryptocurrency". the chart in the middle is even saying "Litecoin Rally".
on top of it there is 0 mention of Satoshi in the article Wink

You are completely confused - I explained how the FUD came to life - someone heard about the Litecoin creator selling all his coins and he thought it was about Bitcoin creator.

umm, I don't see the "explanation"! maybe that is why I'm confused with your comment  Kiss

Only thing I really hate is those Sponsor'd ads that say  "Don't buy Bitcoin invest in this new coin that's 100X better"   No idea what it may be since I never click that crap.

Do people still fall for such cheap tricks? Can't they learn how to identify true crypto worth?

Some people did. They don't have any idea what's the real score for bitcoin and they easily lure with those shitty promises without realizing that it will be just a trap.
People create FUDS so they can fool people for their own greediness and creating fuss so everyone will doubt.

FUD will only make crypto community stronger. As people are adjusting to information values and weight, it will begin to take a stronger rumor to tear it apart. Besides, it's no longer just bitcoin or ethereum. There are a bunch of coins out there now inspired by the astronomical growth of their predecessors.

I find these stories a little bit funny but digging deeper this is actually a common trend these days...when all the information can be found online many people still prefer to get their dose of knowledge from the people around them. Maybe it is because we have been o busy living our lives we always forget to verify if the information that arrived in our doorsteps have already been vetted to be true or just another FUD. Actually, there is no need to take a battle on this because I still believe that a bad publicity is still a publicity. Eventually, people will realize the truth though there can short-term damage when we let falsehood rain on us. Ironically, this is happening at the time when gadgets to connect to the internet are very much available and in fact people can easily be lead to false information because they are connected online...this is a kind of thing that speaks volume of the character of the people in our generation.

...You have to understand that there are really groups of people from behind who is working very hard to discredit bitcoin. You will see them everywhere, from this to forum to social media sites. But  they can't really bring down bitcoin, its been unstoppable, just remember Dimon's attack, it put a significant dent of the market, but temporarily. Bitcoin will lived as long as there are investors like you and me and others here that are willing to pour money into the ecosystem because we all do trust and have full confidence on it.

And Yes, we will win this War.....

I don´t even think that many of the FUD articles are motivated by an attack on
Bitcoin. Most just seem to be proof of how lazy most journalists are with regards to getting
their facts straight and researching their stories thorougly.

Besides, advertising revenues are falling for the mainstream media outlets
and their articles basically become clickbait in order to attract the attention
of their readers.

Oh, don't take any of that personally. Be really happy that you're "annoyed" by them, be really happy that the FUD is working. You know, if everyone were to be a happy camper, you'd get two possible scenarios. The first, true mass adoption happens so much quicker, quicker than you can fill your pockets with Bitcoin. Then, suddenly you're left behind holding 0.1 BTC while your family friends and neighbours all have loads. Second, if everyone got into it, no FUD, how will Bitcoin price grow to defy them, how will you be able to smile knowingly at the dinner table next year, five years, ten or twenty from now? Wink

Take it easy, enjoy the ride, and be glad for them.

After all, imagine how many other smarter, more knowledgeable people we annoy and frustrate? It's a pyramid of frustration I tell you!

Fake news is killing bitcoin and bitcoin has refused to die as some ones has said "bitcoin has die several time". I think a lot need to be done to control one emotions during this time that People are puping out alot of information about bitcoin in other to control people minds about what happened in bitcoin market.

I think we have done our share mate. We have explained countless times that newbies or newcomers who are creating threads and asking questions what to do specially when bitcoin is crashing. That's the best thing we can do and its really up to them to really decide what's they are going to do.

From what I can see, we are losing the battle, So much FUD and misleading news articles. I am sure their intended purposes, to bring down bitcoin, are working. As much as we think we don't need these people who fall for the FUD, we do. We need everyone on board to accept the Bitcoin for what it is and what it can be!

Doesn't matter and you should not worry about it.  Since I bought my first bitcoin in 2013 it has officially died >20 times.  Even had articles detailing all the deaths. I'm not sure if this is FUD caused by bad news or by pure stupidity, the problem is that people are too willing to accept everything they are told and take no time to actually investigate what they are reading.

Bitcoin is a adversarial system. If it wouldn't be attacked from all those different sides something would be really wrong with it.
Bitcoin is the King of the cryptos. And there are many entities and persons who would like to dethrone it.

Not really. People believing this nonsense have nothing to contribute anyway with their few hundred buck holdings. If we look back at how the mainstream media has been talking about Bitcoin, then it's still the same - there is no understanding of Bitocin, and they are looking to attract clicks. I have seen a video on Youtube where someone was talking about how he invests without actually owning any crypto currencies, and as soon as Monero is being brought up in the spotlight, the lady leading the interview asks him 'isn't that the currency used by criminals?!', where this legend replies with 'everything is being used by criminals, including the US dollar and the Euro'. It's fantastic.

For those willing to see the video; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azailpA6wdQ the part I am referring to starts at 05:00

That usually happens even in the mainstream media, created by journalists who couldn't give a rat's ass about what they're writing about but still wants to get paid anyway. There is money in creating FUD, that's why these article writers exist. One small misinterpretation about a certain news article could cause millions of dollars to move in the market. We aren't losing any battle in the FUD game but instead some people are just lazy and too gullible enough to believe these sketchy news written by half brain-dead "journalists".

I don't think that we are losing any battle at all, the one who lose the battle is the one who will sell their Bitcoins believing on what they are saying.  It is called FUD for a reason and that reason is for weak people to be scared on holding their Bitcoin investment and forcing them to sell it pushing the price of Bitcoin down which means the big players have the chance to buy Bitcoin at a lowered price. One thing to defeat this is for us to do our own research and our own analysis for us to prevent selling our own Bitcoin.

I think the reason it went down is because it simply ran out of room to go up. In order to continue going up exponentially it would be worth trillions of dollars and have to start competing with first world national currencies and realize it's dream of taking over fiat money but the adoption isn't anywhere near that level yet. This was all a fantasy. Sometimes you have to take a step back from the craze of what is going on with the short term markets and look at these macro fundamentals.

This is the real reason why bitcoin been battling down its price and have decreases until now. FUD doers is really happy at this moment that it’s working because of those weak hands investors that’s been targeted and victimized to this issue without a glimpse of truthfulness. It is our mission now to spread that bitcoin still the most profitable cryptocurrency.

You just exactly described my relatives who signed up on coinbase during the peak in a panic and asking me for advice. "What is litecoin? Should I buy this? Will it keep going up so I can double my money? What is bitcoin cash? Should I buy? Werent you in that before? What is Ethereum? Should I buy? Woah wtf is happening to btc? Im down. Ok I just bought ripple. Can you explain ripple to me now? This isnt working. I need you to trade for me."

lol

I kind of see now why we rushed from 10k to 19,5k and then went suddenly down again Cheesy

it did that for the same exact reason why it rushed from $3000 to $7800 and then suddenly down again to $5400 (November 2017)

oh wait it is not done yet. the same reason was again when it rushed from $2000 to $4900 and suddenly down to $3100 (September 2017)

you thought i was done? haha big mistake.
the same reason repeated when price rushed from $890 to $2700 and suddenly down to $1800 (May 2017)

haha, i can go all day long with the same reason when price rushed from $450 to $778 and suddenly down to $550 (June 2016)

and finally from $200 to $470 and  back to $360 in November 2015

we even had the same reason back in August 2012 when price went up from $6 to $16 and suddenly dropped to $10

i let you find these and more on the charts yourself...

call it FUD, manipulation, fluctuation, pump and dump, bubble, newbies FOMO/PANIC, whale shenanigan, winter is coming, bitcoin is dead, bitcoin is king, normal market movement, natural adoption curve, blah blah! it doesn't make any difference. that is what has been happening forever. Grin

well this is an ugly truth regarding bitcoin price and its market. it is filled with a lot of newbies who mostly want to get rich overnight so they sign up on places like coinbase for the ease of use to buy hold and dump at the same place. they never even know what they bought and sold! it may as well be some fake numbers on their screen...

but this is how it is. there is not much we can do to change it. as long as the market is filled with idiots, it will be easy to spread FUD and make them sell their coins cheap and generally make irrational decisions.

It's already pretty hard to use imo. I want to keep as little fiat as possible, but that is just not possible because bitcoin cannot be used for everyday items. It's only good if you're buying a Lamborghini or benz....

We are losing the FUD battle! This is bullshit. It is causing potential new users to opt out of BTC and possibly into alt-coins.
