What about the kind of thread where OP literally copies the first 6 paragraphs of an article and links it at the bottom with a "for full article visit ..."?

I'm talking about this thread: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/proof-of-work-vs-proof-of-stake-know-the-difference-4155777

I check the post history and if I see the user is only making posts like this one then I report the user and explain what he is doing on the forum.
Such user has no interest to discuss with the community and doesn't even care what replies will be given and doesn't give something to the forum

Because it seems that there's no universal solution for the problem described above, I think the best would be to leave the topic as is, report to the moderator with the link to the original article and let the mod decide what to do with the topic (and don't report the post in the copypaste topic).
As soon as the mods will decide, we will be able to check it in the report history and after we can act according to that afterwards.

We can't say that it is a plagiarism but we can't say it is not either. The thread has a link to its original post that describes that it is the source of information of the thread. But just copying and pasting its contents without paraphrasing it is a plagiarism.

But if you're gonna ask me. I'll consider it as a plagiarism, although its not, I think.

What I do is I look at the posting history and if it is just one post I don't report it. Otherwise I report it but saying that there are more such posts in the posting history.

I think it's just another kind of way to gain activity to copy an article and ask "What's your opinion?"
Regardless of copying and pasting, there is a positive aspect of the Bitcoin Discussion after the merit system.
The improvement is not entirely but noticeable, as the days pass may end all the spams.
I created this topic -----> https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ln-bitcoin-could-theoretically-scale-beyond-visa-3909008, and there was a lot of serious discussions."I am happy with that."

If copying for a good article "Good content, after search and not the first Google search result," It is better to alert the OP to modify the post."Reporting in case of non-response."

In my perspective, copying an article as exact as what is being written is considered as plagiarism. Rephrasing some ideas on the original but the thoughts remain the same, plus, the there is no citation included is also considered as plagiarism. So if you are able to see those kind of posts not only on the bitcoin discussion but in the forum as a whole and you can justify your accusation by showing an evidence then do not hesitate to report it to the moderators. Or at least post on threads concerning about copy-paste posts here in Meta so that other members wipl be alarmed regarding this.

Such acts should not be tolerated because it contributes bad effects her inside our forum.

The Bitcoin Discussion thread is a spammy thread now, but I think we can stop the spam to have only the quality topics there again. (hopefully)
I have reported 3 topics in a row here all of them were articles from different websites without link to the original.
I usually don't report them in the copypaste topic if they have at least a link to the original article, in that case I usually advice to move the topic to the Press section.
I think it's just another kind of way to gain activity to copy an article and ask "What's your opinion?"
Is there any rule of thumb, what to do with these kind of topics? Sometime they copy good articles but this
(the Bitcoin Discussion thread) is not the place to have the full articles copied into one topic, it's about general discussion, and Press has the full articles...

If they do not quote a source, you can report them as plagiarized posts. It doesn't matter whether the topic is good or not.
Action is pretty quick these days.  Smiley
