Could be, but we've also had a lot of scammers in the lending forums hijacking inactive accounts in the past.

They either want the free ripples or want to use the account for loan scam. Or both.
I received the same email at a gmail address created for a Bitcoinduit profile here. I was only offered $10. 
If you search for members by email address using a wild card, you get a list of every profile with a public email address.
