How do we know that he was actually hacked? His word is the only thing we have to go on there AND he also gave his word that he would repay. If he keeps his word it is likely that he is telling the truth and if not then it is obvious that his word is no good. I pmed him and offered to split the losses with him if he had any real interest in repaying. If he repays I will update the topic and if not oh well I've already lost the coins.

He became obligated the second he said he would pay. Also, how do we know he got hacked? Just because he says so? It is true that I should have used an escrow. The only reason I didnt was because of his account age and post history.

Please go back to trolling other posts or back under your bridge. Or as you so eloquently put it fuck off

Since you were dealing with an unknown 3rd party using a hacked account, sure 'he' is obligated to pay - but he won't. That's why the account was hacked, your 3rd person doesn't plan to pay. You're expecting someone who had nothing to do with the theft to just send you what you lost because it was their account that was used - and that's just not how it works in the real world.

Stop whining, learn your lesson and move on. Nobody is 'obligated' to do anything in this matter, absolutely nothing.

If it were me I'd tell you to fuck off. Then I'd create a new account - you're a whining little child who was too greedy and got burned.  "HE" is not under any obligation to pay you a penny. To play Devil's Advocate, who is to say you didn't hack the account yourself or had a friend do it?
Once again read the thread and stop being an asshat. I never once asked him to pay me back until the 3rd time he said he would do so.

How do we know you aren't him or the hacker(I hate that term). You seem to have a lot of interest in this. Why is that?

Which senario seems more likely:
A:) I am some hacker who for whatever reason chose his account over many others that would have been more valuable just to steal ~2btc from my self. For what reason? Why wouldn't I use that to steal from someone else?
B:) That YOU had something to do with this. imo you have shown way more interest in this post than what is nessicary. I will be asking staff to check your ip(s) against his and the so called attacker.

ok MR TROLL with no trades and no history. your input has been..um.. noted. thanks.

Also, HE said HE would pay me back. I am simply asking HIM to keep HIS word. Read the thread before speaking up next time

I don't make my trades on here.

So let me get this straight. You sent almost 2 BTc to someone you don't know, you did it without escrow. When you got scammed you left negative feedback and insist it will remain there even knwing the other party was a victim of a hack. You then insist that you be given that other person's account for your loss.

If you don't trade here and have only been here for about two weeks why are you posting in this thread? kindly gtfo/stfu

Well I'll make sure not to do business with you. If someone were to gain access to my account(s) and used my name to steal from innocent people I would repay them. Maybe I just have a higher set of morals

We will never be doing business, don't you worry. The option to proceed without escrow was yours, you took the risk. Out of all the fraud complaints I've read on this forum though you seem to be the first who feels the hacked party owes you some compensation. In actual fact he doesn't owe you a penny, and I reiterate I wouldn't pay out.

You should have used an escrow, I don't see why the other party needs to refund you for your loss. I certainly wouldn't.

to confirm.. it was never tested by me on this site; however I tested against my sites in a model/controlled environment.. so there was no data except me logging in various times.. which makes it easy to see login data.

Saying that, in a live production site it would be 100% possible for a password to be leaked but it would be quite unlikely... unless an attacker ran the scripts from multiple locations over and over.. Theymos did say the issue was resolved within hours. I would suspect it someone new about the vulnerability before it was made public 100's or 1000's of people could/would of had accounts hacked.

So in summary.. its 100% possible.. and much better odds of it happening than winning the lottery; however its just not likely as it appears its only your account that was affectted.

It seems passwords were leaked https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.6206729 That explains what happened and no matter how strong the password was, if it was leaked.

Or you're using that as an excuse. He didn't say passwords were leaked but that it was a possibility.

I still have no control over it. It is not a small loss, i'm willing to solve the situation, but there isn't a lot i can do, giving you the account would be ok, if i get it back, otherwise i could refund your loss but it is a big one and it is not my fault, it was not me controlling the account.

Technically it is your fault...you'd probably at the very least be marked with red trust if you failed to repay what he lost as it is your account, after all.

Since this guy has absolutely no interest in making this right I would like to take over ownership of his account/change the username. The account age/post count has value and I deserve something to cover my losses

This is an interesting proposal.

Tough call, in my opinion -- you are responsible for engaging in a transaction without escrow (can't knock you, though, as I hate using escrow as a seller), and he's responsible for controlling his account.  But again, in my opinion, if he is truthful, he had no malicious intent, and so it's only the hacker you should take issue with despite your desire for compensation.

True. I should have known from the start that him trading LTC for BTC @ 3% below fair market was dumb. His account history is why I sent first without requiring an escrow and that is a mistake I will not make again.

My account has been hacked, it is not under my control.

I have been online since the interwebs first became publicly available in Chicago and I've never been "hacked" or had a virus. How the hell does someone with that much time in the BTC world not have a decent password? Maybe people are just dumb?

Bullshit excuses are bullshit imo

Meh. Should have chosen a better password imo. Feedback will not be removed unless I get my btc/ltc and will be added the the new account.

He logs in every day around this time but wont respond. what a douche bag

He has been flagged.

You'd think that they'd at least try to defend themselves, eh?

Yeah, even something weak and lame. I suspect a sold/hacked account.

Very likely sold. Maybe he saw he could get a quick hundred or so bucks out of his account and took the chance, and now it's costing this guy $850 :/

yup. people suck. lesson learned
