Ever since I was a kid my parents told me that reading is essential. Reading stimulates the brain and with reading something in your comfort zone can reduce stress. To me reading skills can be through browsing, skim through, and in depth reading.

There are so many things that we read daily for leisure and comfort like Text messages, Emails, Billboards, Ingredients and calories on food intake, Directions to get a destination from point a to point z, Articles on newspapers, Browsing the internet, Books/E-Books.

If you are reading this post right now I hope that my opinion does encourage those to make time to read.

In-depth reading is the most precious/valuable type that benefits us in a lifetime. It is much more difficult to be done than others because it takes a lot of time and needs readers to calm down and think deep as well. I believe this is a rare ability to acquire for most people nowadays.

I don’t read novels or anything like that, I see them as pointless & a waste of time. I like to educate myself on real life things, I read & study finance, cryptocurrency, I surround myself with educated people whom I can cherry pick information from. What I will say is one of the best & most informative pieces of reading material I’ve ever had the pleasure to read is The Bitcoin Standard by Saifedean Ammous. It will open your eyes & probably confirm to you why you are here on this forum.

Readings on finance and cryptocurrency are rewarding because you can easily measure their "output" so that you like them. In contrast, novels reading is not for acquiring specific skills or money-making but purely for a better understanding of human nature and society. Being educated by our physical surroundings is not enough and a spiritual education or reflection from other people's experiences is essential for personal growth. You may get shocked to look back on what you believed ten years from now and never realize how the change happened. Things like novel-reading might be one of the factors.

Reading is priceless, not only for gaining knowledge on specific topics but also when it comes to general knowledge, one's vocabulary, a better understanding of human nature...the list is miles long. And I do agree, the parents should encourage their children to read and pay close attention to what they're reading, as some books can do damage when read before the abilities to understand them have developed.

Exactly. reading has a very large scope of tangible and intangible gains. To better understand human nature is the core value. You are welcome to share great books you or your children have recently read. Cheers.

The question is what to read? Here's an idea.

Proverbs 13:20:
He who walks with wise men will be wise,
But the companion of fools will suffer harm.

Micah 6:8:
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.

Walking humbly with God just might transfer some of His attributes to you.

Cool

The Bible is definitely the most inflential book that benefits millions of people, although not every scripture is fully agreed and understood by every disciple. May God's glory shine upon us.

simply what is the book you have read recently and what have you learned from it ?

I can remind the last story book NAMED The Iron Mistress I read in my school life. I was excited too much by reading this book that I took my first chigerrate and drink while reading the book. The book played with my mind and I got to start acting like the inside character of the book. THE IRON MISTRESS is always a memorable book for me as I start smoking and drinking wine while reading this book.

lesson I learned: Story books causes madness or crazyness for school students.

It's true that story books are misleading sometimes especially for school students. Reading guidelines are necessary for young students, hopefully nowadays parents should spare more time watching their kids read.

Books are a storehouse of vast knowledge. reading books is highly recommended, not only for value but it will add to your insight about the world and make your life better, because you have knowledge.

Recently I read a book about life motivation, there are many lessons that I can take from it. So, instead of just daydreaming about something that is not clear, it's better to read a book or you can do something according to your hobby.

but, in my opinion, it's okay to daydream for a while, as long as it's not continuous. our minds must be very dizzy thinking about this world, so it's good to take a rest.

Thanks. It's true that our mind has to be occupied every day, otherwise we'll get bored or crazy. All the gains we talked about are beneficial in a long term. Better start reading today and keep it as a ritual.

When we were kids, reading was encouraged by our parents and teachers because we had to go to school and pass exams. Grades might be the biggest drive to read/learn although grades sometimes don't equal knowledge. As we grow up, whether we go to college or not, reading means so much more. We learn a lot of lessons from reading and later examine them in life. We enrich our mind through reading as our life and experiences are limited. We discover the laws of nature and human societies to guide our life and predict the future thanks to reading. The list goes on and on... What is your opinion on reading ? or simply what is the book you have read recently and what have you learned from it ?
