well, i rarely get anything like that about my gambling. and it is mostly because it is my private affair and it is none of anybody else's business but also it is because i don't gamble that much either.
but those who give you a hard time by saying hurtful things are the worst people to have any connection with.

As long as you are paying your bills, fulfilling the needs of your family and your own, and you are not addicted to gambling, it is nobody’s business what you do with your spare income.

it never occurred to me. because I'm playing gambling secretly, because gambling is a bad thing. so I do not want things that you mentioned happen to me.
I think no one will disclose this matter with anyone. Yes, suppose if I say that I am doing gambling means that think bad about me. So many gamblers play gambling very secretly. Only a few people can share their feeling with their loved once. I am also not faced this type of issues. Because I too like to play gambling alone.

I suppose its everyone's private prerogative to play or not to play, and you must decide it yourself. But I belive, that some 'weak' people should be limited from gamebling. The question is how to do that.

This has never happened to me since I dont gamble enough. It depends if the person is concerned about you or not. If they concerned for you then I guess its ok. But if they are doing it just to be judgmental then they can go to hell since ita my choice to do so with my life and money as I please.

People tends to view gamblers as people to avoid. So if they know that you have been going to casino quite often, they will assume that you may go and find them to borrow money so they start to avoid you. There is a lot of people who knows how to gamble within their own means so they wont go and borrow but yet people view them not so.

I have. Gambling is very frowned upon in our area, except when you're in your 40s or 50s. People look up to you when you win in gambling, they would always ask for your favors and borrow money but when you're not winning "big", people would always discriminate me like saying I'm a sinful man for gambling and would always incorporate drugs and smoking from their statements, even when I don't even smoke, drink, or do drugs.

Happened to me a lot. Whenever I tell someone I play poker or gamble to earn money, they start judging me like crazy. So I have stopped telling people that, and only mention about poker to my close friends.

Gamblers have bad reputation among the public because they lose a lot of money and caused a lot of problems. There are good gamblers but they are the minority and the house hates them for winning their money. The great gamblers are being discriminated by the house for winning their money so these people are not in the limelight.
Yes right i dont like this but this is the truth gamblers have the bad reputation in the society specially in my country i think. So i keep it hidden from every one else even my family that i used to gamble online.Only my few friends knows about it who also gambles sometimes not as often like me and i dont want anyone else to know about it,even my girl friend Tongue

No one dares to do that to me... I gamble my own money and I don't care about them, why would I listen to what they are saying... Family members could do that to me and I listen to them specially if what I am doing is noticeable and I am affecting them already like if I am not joining them anymore on dinner or things like that..

AND WHAT DO YOU DO IN THESE KIND OF SITUATION?

people always say hurtful stuff on the internet to anybody and it is not limited to gambling. it is the false sense of power that being on the internet and the semi anonymity it has, gives to some people who let themselves say whatever shit they like and this gives them that false sense of power when in fact it is just a 13 year old kid who is afraid of the dark.

People have hesitation to deal with recognized gamblers to avoid issue as there is a general perception a gambler whenever will find money will have one direction straight to casino. It is always discrimination but sometimes is advice and care what our close circle of are tell us. I was used to visit casino physically but never faced any issue except some friendly advises from some people. As long as you are playing online why you need to tell everyone that you are gambling for money.

Hurtful stuffs? Well,

People will laugh at you, discriminate you, no matter what. They have the rights to do so anyway, they have the rights to say their opinions over things. The only problem that I can see in here is that you're getting hurt with what they are saying. You know why? It's because you're telling yourself that it's true when most of the time, it isn't.

You should know that there are tons of trolls out there. If your gambling hobby is different from them but it's working for you, then be it. Stick to it, just don't chat on the chatbox already. The reason why they recognized you and your gambling hobby is because you've talked to them before. Move on and ignore them all from now on.

Discrimantion is always behind the door when you are addicted to gambling. If you are addicted you will listen to family, neighbors and a lot of people you know speaking very badly of you. If thats the case and you are addicted they are right and you should go seek help and talk about your problem with your family. If you only play to entertain yourself with small amounts which can do to you no harm disregard what they are saying.

actually gambling already has a negative meaning, when you say gambling, all of the wise people will ask you to stop, because gamble is an addictive activity and the dangerous thing about gambling is you can turn from rich to poor in only minutes, so if they say such a bad things about gambling maybe they have a hurtful experience before, and they kind of have perception that gambling equal to criminal

People usually says that to addicted gambler, with hopes that he will finally stop that gambling  addiction, i don't see anything bad here. Addiction is a bad thing, so you should stop it asap.

And if someone says bad things to you, it would be good time for you to finally think WHY they say that to you Smiley.

To the point that a person sees you changed your usual traits while you are playing gamble, it's really normal if you got some hurtfull stuffs about on what you are doing. That is the art of concern.

If you are already blinded in gambling then you don't have to bother on what you will do in that kind of situation as you are truly not concern for others saying.

I got in a argument with a guy getting salty about me saying that
chase systems don't work. The guy made about 4 threads ripping me
and I finally said ok we will see what happens

He lost 9 in a row and went bust over $2000 lost using his chase system
3 weeks later.
All systems have flaws. That's a given.

The only system that works is to create your own casino. That's a good system, isn't it? Smiley

Now, in all seriousness - had he stopped when you told him to or had he listened to your advice, he'd not have lost those $2k.

So it's important to realize that, although you can do whatever you want, there will always be people saying things which are right are wrong around you. You can choose to listen whatever you want though, as I said -.but not everyone can be wrong Smiley

as long as what they are saying is a hurtful thing for trolling purposes, i don't pay attention to them and cut the conversation with such people.

but if someone said some stuff about your gambling that are hurtful they can have a point and it was not meant to be hurtful but since they are saying to an addict it becomes hurtful for him.

you might needed to accept the fact that there's some people doing it for good purpose some of them might be concern to you that's why they are criticizing you seeing you in the other form maybe they seen that you are on a addiction already and you already losing a lot that's why, so look on it in another way mate then think about yourself too I'm not saying that its okay saying hurtful words but if I needed to I'm willing to do it to correct someone I love.

When someone criticized our gambling activities that means he/she cares with us. They dont want us to fall into the pit of misery. Gambling is just for entertainment. Consider to use free money and do it at your free time to avoid such bad thing. I got addicted to gambling in the past, but fortunately my family managed to remind me before I fell into the dark valley.

So don't post anything personal about your gambling experience in the forum so that you will not received negative feedback about that. of course people will discriminate you because you loss in gambling
and that makes you offset. everyone knows what is the consequence of gambling. so be it accept the discrimination of other user here and make a lesson to learned. Smiley

AND WHAT DO YOU DO IN THESE KIND OF SITUATION?
I've never really experienced any discrimination based on my gambling, most people just ignore it and I rarely see people bugging other people for it unless it's something that's having a detrimental impact on one's life. In that scenario I would probably step in and get them to at least reconsider what they're doing with their money. If they don't want to change after that, fine by me.

Responsible gambling is one of the most finest forms of entertainment. The stigma exists due to problem gambling/addicted gamblers, I think it's a serious issue but heavily overstated especially due to the strong US anti online gambling lobby (http://stopinternetgambling.com/).

Personally I enjoy gambling and do so responsibly and could care less what anyone thinks.

No matter how people would judge us because of our doings they dont have the right to stop us. Do you mean criticism, not discrimination?   I realize English is not the first language for a lot of the shmucks here, but OP described criticism.  There's a big difference.  Discrimination would be treating you differently because you gamble, and I don't see that happening much unless the gambler is gambling away the baby food money.  And even that's not discrimination.

First of all why do you let others know that you are into gambling specially those who are not gamblers? Gamblers will understand their fellow gambler, but for non-gambler when they started to hear that you are hooked into gambling they will start to act like an angel and say a lot of bad things about gambling and convince you to stay away from it. If that happened to me I will just say, "I'm not asking money from you and I'm playing with my money" they have nothing to do with it.

AND WHAT DO YOU DO IN THESE KIND OF SITUATION?
That's not something that you don't experience everyday. Discrimination is every where every day. The society would judge you no matter what. Even the littlest mistake that you've ever done in your entire life can lead to discrimination.

In gambling, people usually just trolls in the chatbox. They would make fun of you if you can't speak in English fluently but this action is frowned upon by people that have higher IQs.

Whenever I get discriminated by someone, regardless of where it is or who it is, I just don't mind it. I don't think of it and move on. You should give no value to their opinions about you as most of them aren't true anyways. Focus on the positive traits that you possess.

It is not that hard to imagine why general public treats gambling with no respect:

1. Gambling is often it is associated with shady business.
2. There is a stereotype of addicted gamblers floating around.
3. Gambling in general is not a reliable way to earn any money.

So no wonder that non gambling people have not so high opinion about gamblers.

what you are telling is absolutely correct, if you are a gambler and if anyone is saying something hurtfull that should not affect you, as you know what you do, and if it affects you then you are itself to blame that what you are doing is wrong. In this world you will face lot of person who are always bothered about others activity and they dont do their own activity and just always blame others of what they are doing it.

It depends on which country you live and how much you win or loss. If you live in countries that legalize gambling and get more win than lose, you might not be discriminated and if there are people cursing those who gamble, just said you win and its legal. But, different stories if you're in countries that do not legalize gambling and get more losess. Just stay away, it may ruin your life.
