What I read, which is not uncommon in Mexico, is that you get taken advantage of pretty badly and many of them, but I'dl like to hear first hand
What I do whenever I travel to any new location where I understand that I could be easily cheated is to get a local guide that I would reward handsomely. They help me navigate through the city and avoid the cheats who want to take advantage of me because it's my first time experience in that place. You'll feel much better knowing you paid a local guide handsomely than realizing later on that you were cheated on every corner because you refused to get a local guide.

It’s just a short vaca to a great beach. This year I plan to travel. I’ve got a lot of close buddies on the forum worldwide, and will def be meeting a few of in EU. Hoping for Italy, my motherland.
It's going to be a fun time for you for sure.

If you can afford it easily why not? I don't visit casinos for sightseeing but some people don't even like gambling online, they prefer a location based casinos, I hope you have done your own research very well about the place, since you are talking about been taken advantage of, Mexico is not a very great place but the location you want yo head for is safe for tourist so you are good to go.

Have a great time, maybe someday when I have the money I will consider doing the same thing but hell no I ain't visiting Mexico, I have other places in mind.

This makes it my 4th trip to Cancun lol. What’s funny is the difference in requirements to cross boarders from my first trip 20 some years ago and this one. Use to be just needed a birth certificate. You could actually pay people to come to the airport , like a notary, who create a birth certificate right then and there, course me and my buddy were the only 2 of the group of 14 or so who did this. Close call. Anyways if you live in the U.S. the best benches hands down nearby are Mexico’s like Cancun. Say you it’ll take me 3hr nonstop flight there and back, versus say going to California would take several more hours and the beaches suck. Florida beaches in large are nice, but not Mexico nice and it’s winter here so the ocean will be too cold. I also have airline miles built up, who fly there..so it was a “free” flight there and back. I’d spend 3-4x as much in Cali too.

Anyways Mexico is just a big game of cat and mouse and you need to know how to play and I do, though last 3 times there I was early 20s and drunk 24/7..fack, never grow up kids

I don’t know if the idea of going to physical while you are a foreigner is a good idea. Typically, foreigners attract thief when you go outside the casino so you’re life is at risk even if you didn’t won anything. Also if ever you won a jackpot, it’s very hard to secure the money since you are traveling so better to avoid gambling at all and focus on your vacation trip.

It’s either you will play in online casino if you can’t stop the urge to gamble or just wait until your trip is over.

Not only the safety issue is your concern but also a risk of losing money might ruined your vacation.

If I was visiting say ..Rio, then I’d be more worried. Cancun is government and cartel owned, they want tourists to have a great time and to keep coming back. The times I’ve been I tracked outside my resource plenty and never feared for my safety (nor did I ever living in Chicago for 10 years..

Also I don’t have any addiction so it never let it ruin my trip

If I am going on vacation and gambling is on my agenda, I prefer gambling online since I don't need to start looking for a casino before I can gamble. However, I understand that you are going on vacation and it's good to tour round in a new environment to enjoy the beauty of the place. In Cancun, the largest casino is Dubai Palace, and I believe they have all types of casino games you can think of. You can also try out Jubilee Casino, enjoy your vacation.
Thanks to online casinos, you don't have to worry about gambling  anywhere you travel to, so far gambling sites are not restricted in that region, you can enjoy yourself without fearing for your safety or being taken advantage of. Ofcourse it's fun to visit physical casinos with all the lively activities that goes with it, and as a gambler if you're on vacation you wouldn't mind visiting their casinos to have the experience. It's good to be well informed if you're going to visit a casino in a place that you're not from, so you won't make avoidable mistakes by falling into the hands of criminals. I'm wishing the OP a safe and enjoyable vacation, I'm not familiar with Cancun, but I can see that he's getting some information about reputable casinos in that city. He should remember that there's always the online casino option, just Incase.

My advice will be to try one by one the casino so you will know what is the advantage and disadvantage that you want. If you only listen to others say, that could not be clear because each people will say different things for each casino. But I think you don't have to go to casino in your trip but trying to enjoy the situation in Cancun. You can still playing gambling on online casino which can more comfortable for you to play in anywhere you want even in the bar.

I'm not sure there's anyone here who might be able to answer this, but I'm finally going to be on vacation in a tropical part of the world (my soul needs it big time), anyways I've been looking for things to do at night and there's quite a few casinos there, but It's kind of hard to tell if any of them are any good. I wouldn't likely go at all while in Cancun but it's a solo trip, so figured might be a good nighttime activity for me.  What I read, which is not uncommon in mexcio, is that you get taken advantage of pretty badly and many of them, but I'dl like to hear first hand.

Any info appreciated !

It is going to be fun, but the careful, if you are a stranger in a stranger's land you need to make sure it is safe to visits some gambling den, some are dangerous and no outsiders are welcome.

I heard Cancun is still a safe place for solo travelers, so it can be a great experience, I just like warning people leaving from their state or country to another, because I lost a close relative this way, the shock is still in me till today.

To leave my home and travel to another now is very hard for me unless I am going with trusted relatives for vacation, now I hate embarking on a journey out of my state all by myself.

Some one has taken profits. Nice. You deserve it if that's what you did. It doesn't really matter what you did, what matters is that you are taking a break. Vacations are very mentally refreshing.

In this Reddit reply to a similar topic  about Cancun, one of the recommendations were Plaza La Isla in Cancun. Although one reply there was that there is a tax of 7% on every gain but the says you'd enjoy the game.

Some of the games you will find there are roulette, poker, Blackjack,

I am not from Mexico but I think in any country you go to you can still pretty much be taken advantage of if you are gullible enough.

What I would advise though and this pretty much applies to any country is to stick with well reviewed casinos. If possible go to the high-end ones and don't even try to look for those unofficial, by the street kind of casinos. Not only will the overall experience be not as good as it would be in a luxurious one but like you said you might be even taken advantage of since most likely it will ran by locals and be visited by locals as well.

Unless you are the kind of tourist who wants to engage in local spots. Personally, I would just find a good hotel and casino if there is any. Have a nice trip though! and hopefully I too can go on a vacation.
