game-like online job scams, have your heard of this? Not just heard about it I actually DM the scammer and they offered me with the fake link and phising sh*t

So crypto is basically my full time job since this my full time job I constantly looking for the job online from the bounty and airdrop and sometimes I saw freelance post like bein a moderator or playing as a tester some game. I was interested so I DM the person do a little chat and they agreed to pay 300 USD per week just for testing some new Play to Earn game.

Looking good and they finally send some app with a beta testing code but hey I just feel this didn't right and turned out one of my friend also had same chance he took it and all the wallet got drained what a joke right. Scammer are getting smarter day by day

The only solution is to increase awareness and knowledge among people about the methods of scammers.
Yeah, that is a way to reduce scam, however, the scammers simply need someone who has not read about this scam or who has and didn't take it seriously. There are places and amongst people that this scam is impossible, but there are also places were victims can be gotten easier, so that is the thing, and once scammers are able to point out their vulnerable targets, they spread their nets.
These scammers usually prey on ignorant people. The elderly or retirees are the target of these criminals. Some of these old people are usually alone and not aware of the tricks applied by these criminals. I remember a highly publicized scam in Australia where the scammer consciously made the elderly the target and before the scam was exposed they were ripped thousands of dollars. Maybe we should extend awareness to parents and grandparents.

There’s a new type of scam going around, and it seems they’ve gotten tired of the old tricks and decided to innovate.
According to the news, they’ve already scammed a massive amount, totaling $220 million in just six months.
I would like to say that in Russia, this scheme of fraud, has long been dead, but it is very strange that it is relevant in the United States.
And scammers have already sent more cunning, and so to prove their integrity, they make the first payments for tasks. And now in Russia there are users who deceive these scammers, taking 1-2 dollars per account.

We now have worse fraud schemes, when scammers rent social media accounts or illegally gain access to them, and then scam everyone on their contact list.

Of course I ever heard this, but this is not only happened in cryptocurrency, it also happened in fiat.

The scammer will offer very easy task like watching short video, like, comment, answering basic question etc, they will give the money if you've done the task. The reward is small, says $1 per task. They will give $10, they act like they're legit. After that they will ask to make deposit if they want to earn bigger rewards.

If people are smart, they can earn $10, if they fall into the trap, they can loss as much as they can.

This is a very old scamming technique and nothing new. Probably these type of scams are resurfacing now with a new look but the agenda remains same. I too I am seeing a lot of online portals who are claiming to provide micro tasks where anyone can earn money. But the moment you accumulate a good amount of money, they will ask for a registration fees. Once you pay that fees, they are gone!

These are very old technique if you remember the era of "Get paid to" scams.

$220 million in victims from "task scams" This is a huge number, and it also made up about 40 percent of all fraud reports in 2024 This is a large percentage that indicates how widespread this type of scam is and how easy it is to catch victims.

Frankly, I wonder how easily victims fall into the trap, there are people I know who are easily attracted to the trap and even if you advise them that this is a scam, they do not believe you and think that you do not know anything or perhaps you envy them and after they fall into the trap they realize their mistake and regret it.

The only solution is to increase awareness and knowledge among people about the methods of scammers.

This year i hope more people learn about stuffs like this, so they don't become victims.
I hope so too, but based on what I’ve seen with crypto scams, the rate keeps increasing every year.
That is true, and another thing is that we are in a year that we expect BTC to probably reach the peak of the cycle, so there is going to be a lot of people showing symptoms of fomo, and due to that, they are more vulnerable to cheap scams. However, there is nothing more we can do than to sound warnings in forums like this, and people who are curious to learn usually find such recommendations and adhere to it.

This is not new and there is even nothing innovative about this, i am pissed that a lot of people are deceived by this and lose money in this way. Employers do not just contact people out of the blues on whatsapp, that alone is a clear indication that it is a scam and whenever anyone asks you to pay in order to get paid, it is 100% a scam.
And that’s what surprises me the most, like you said, it’s not new, yet people are still getting scammed, and the scammers are making huge amounts. It just goes to show that there are still so many people who aren’t well-versed in technology or who jump in without doing proper research before investing or earning crypto.

Also your link is hhttps:// instead of https://

Corrected, Thanks.

This is not new thing, I have almost joined the supposedly scam job, they actually pays for the first few job, it start with very small payment actually $3-$5 and simple job like liking youtube video or social media post, and they actually sent you the money. And then they will offer you bigger payment, like $20-$30 per job, before that you will need to pay like entry ticket to join the bigger job. But then after you sent that entry ticket fee they will make-up some reason, and even ask you for another fee, some people lured further because they don't want to waste the money they already sent. They mostly do this through telegram group.

In our country alone, I have heard of many online job scams, and most of them are from other countries that also enter our country, and many of my fellow countrymen or compatriots are also victims here. So, that is not new from what I hear and read in the news.

As for scamming victims, it is rampant in these times, the scammers have leveled up even more, right? That is why more and more people are becoming victims of these scammers,
the only thing we can do is be very careful of them.

This has to do with all these online games and streaming platforms, which they said you are being paid by how many videos or tasks you perform on that platform, which has a limit to how much you can earn before you will be allowed to withdraw and also forced them to refer people, which they will later ask their victims to make some deposit in order to qualify for the withdrawal.

I never knew the amount they have scammed people will get to this length; I thought they were more focused on the traffic the victims are bringing to them and the number of views they get from those users.

Just quite unfortunate that people are still falling victim to it.
Some people just don't pay attention very well to detect a scam; even if the oldest and most popular means of scam is used on them, they will still fall victim.

This is no more new. We have noticed this scam like some months ago and some people brought it up on this forum. Also the link on your post has been since Dec 13, 2024. But it is good that you brought up a news like this again for people to avoid unknown people online. They only want to scam.

Also your link is hhttps:// instead of https://

Really such has been on trending even though it's been an old strategy. We can also check out on the Recruitment Phishing Scam Imitates CrowdStrike Hiring Process where job hunters had been on target to be lured by these scamming method. Just quite unfortunate that people are still falling victim to it.

read the story here.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is warning Americans about “game-like online job scams” that get people to perform tasks with the promise of a continuous income stream — only to be duped into giving money to the scammer. The FTC says in the first six months of this year, these “task scams” have raked in over $220 million from victims, often in the form of cryptocurrency. It’s accounted for about 40 percent of all scam reports in 2024.

There were 20,000 reports of task scams in the first half of 2024, a sharp increase from only 5,000 from 2020-2023.
