Mt.Gox, QuadrigaCX. Cryptopia etc. The stories are hacked but do you really know the real story. It's very easy to move coins and tell the world that someone else took it away.

Small exchanges like Cryptopia really did it themselves and fooling the world but it would be unfair to say the same for Mt.Gox.
If Mt.Gox was still alive today they would have been the No. 1 exchange today and Binance would not be the leaders.

Going down without alerting customers on their mail is bad and that's what Gate.io failed to do, I do receive messages on my mail from different exchange I have used before about their impromptus maintenance, so its not something new in the crypto industry.

These exchange were quite good and trustable especially cryptopia, which my funds also lost there too, but at some point a shock news came up, that its gone, it doesn't really matter how big or small the exchange is, but the fact is that you can't be smart all the time and choose the best exchange even Binance had been hacked, but the main points here is "storing coin on exchange is not appropriate" except you are performing a day to day trade.

I think the point is, small exchanges mentioned above can exit scam quite easily using something like this.
I do not think small or big matters much. All depends on the people who are behind running the company. If they have intention to exit then they can exit anytime. It's true for the exchange which has launched today and long run established exchange like Binance, Kucoin, Polo, Bittrex. Haven't we seen enough from this long period of time?

When you have your coins in an exchange or any service site - you are putting your trust on them. Trust is your only asset in here not the coins. The coins are only yours when they are in your own wallet.

A regular maintenance is very common for any website.
I think the point is, small exchanges mentioned above can exit scam quite easily using something like this. They're not the same as Google, social media, etc websites since they hold your money. But I don't think Gate is a small exchange though, at least compared to hundreds of others who can't even make 1 million volume/day.

The website is working fine in my end. Tried more than one browser. I think everything is back to normal. However, it's just so weird how a well known website goes down temporarely or even permanently without any notice to its users. Poeple are using this kind of services (exchanges) with their own money so they should be informed about any inconvenient that may occur .
What happed should be taken into considration for actual users of the website and also for potential users who may want to join it .
Maybe they did inform their users, we do not know, at least I have no idea since I am not their user. Let's not blame a company.

Good to know your funds are safe. However its a wakeup call for you and everyone else who store their funds for a long time on small exchanges.
You are overreacting :-P

A regular maintenance is very common for any website. It's true for a website that has been up just now to a website like Google, Facebook, Twitter.

If you need a reminder to not leave idle funds on exchanges:

Good, as the saying goes, 'not your keys, not your coins'.

And there are a lot of unannounce maintenance lately, and some glitch specially when the price of bitcoin is going up, like Coinbase (notoriously known for always down at critical moment).

It's already up, but we should be careful on another exchanges as well. It's weird and then you will nervous that they might have been hack.

Website is back now and according from them, it was just maintenance.

I see this unannounced maintenance happening again so better bookmark their other domains too @op. Reading the past messages in telegram, it seems the other domain(s) were working while gate.io was still down.

Go to their telegram and search for "domain", afterwards verify them thru https://www.gate.io/en/officialverify while it is up and running. It's a cool feature but they should've put it in a standalone platform.

I get "503 Service Temporarily Unavailable"

How long the site is down? If this is not for long time like last 5 to 12 hours or more and no response in their social media then there is something to worried otherwise I think it's just something they are working on and the site will be back soon.

No idea about this exchange since I'll never use that before , sure being down without given update to its users is bad sign . I remember there are many exchange that
which suddenly closed due to the bullmarket. So if were you I will move my funds to other exchange once they back online so you can secured your own money to your wallet and not from the 3rd party liquid provider .

I also found some scam Accusations befoee..

I just got an access of the website but after 2-3 refresh it gives me a 502 code error, I guess this is related to their host or maybe from massive traffic they're receiving. Give them at least an hour to resolve this issue and give it a try.

Just confirmed and its down. Maybe it is down because of traffic load. Its risky to store funds in small exchanges in the bull run market.

Seems to be an unplanned downtime due to the lack of information on their Twitter account[1]. Got 2 downtime complaints on their latest tweet aswell. I suggest waiting this out for a bit first, and hopefully you didn't have that much money on their platform.

I have funds at gate.io exchange and recently i can't access it. Is it down for maintenance or any other schedule downtime ?

Having exchange down without any reason is something to worry about.
