Aren't you forgetting the heatsinks on the revised verticle version? and to reduce the foot print can't you put the PS under the chassis?

No, and no. I mentioned a minimum ~5cm width/ea which includes the heatsink, and Chilis are not PCI based and do not require a motherboard; the form factor was designed so that they could be fitted into a PCI slot if one wished, just as possible a way of mounting them, but they don't actually connect through the slot. And spotswood hasn't posted pictures of the revised vertical version yet, it was just a picture of a similar design. Wait I thought the Chillis were PCI based hence need to be plugged into a MOBO?
