I don't need the sheeting. I would buy four of these if available. However, I will point the GPU exhausting the hot air upward, so I hope this frame can do that. Also concur with other poster that this needs 6 fans (3 in front, 3 in back) in push-pull configuration.

I would buy this if it comes put together and sheeting with it, and accommodates 6 fans. It needs 3 fans on the back as well. Here are the dummy plugs i usually use.

The response to this idea has been lukewarm, at best. Which I don't understand, since (albeit if sheeting were applied) this would be an alternate to having to buy (and then modify) a server chassis.Is the inability to mount the motherboard and PSUs to this frame is what is lacking in this idea? Or, simply the lack of sheeting?

Looking at the dimensions it should be possible to mount the mobo either on top; or with a slightly higher top: hanging upside down towards the gpus. The PSU can always be set on the side. I can understand leaving sides DIY, but I think you should also offer an all in one version that holds the mobo and PSU as well.
In general I think this is a good idea; it could be placed alongside a standard desktop to easily convert it into a mining rig.
Especially if you use PCIE splitters as their adaptor bracket has provisions for mounting PCIE devices outside the PC case;) One cable from computer to video card array; and I guess you would have to sort out a way to have power to the GPU's linked to the PC as well.In general I think this is a good idea; it could be placed alongside a standard desktop to easily convert it into a mining rig.
Too bad there isn't an unused pin on that USB3 riser cable; you could just send the PS_ON line through there to the satellite GPU frame's power source.

also; theres some GPU that the PCIE power connector is on the short edge of the card at the very end.... hopefully thats not going to be an issue for many cards.
It would be nice to be able to have the GPU's in their own modular section; but, in the end, for me personally I think its best to have each unit as one whole; not two parts.

Does there need to be some space between the GPUs and the fans for dummy plugs, and if so how long are the plugs?

Another module could be used for the motherboard and PSUs, but I was initially thinking that those components would simply rest on a shelf. Indeed, this idea is not restricted by the 19-inch server rack standard.

3x 130+CFM fans as extractors, should be sufficient assuming the inlet side isnt restricted.... suck clean air in past the cards.... I think 3 could possibly work....
We use 3 fans in front, plus the two tiny ones that come in the rosewell rear of the case.. and can keep the 5 GTX1080 cards under 70*... indoors with no AC or extra active cooling.

I want it but I want six fans not 3.
Push pull will be needed with 1080 ti's
Also I do a lot of four card builds using the b250m board.
A four card frame could work.
One more thought a 20 inch box fan could work to cool it.

FYI, the enclosed space will require some high cfm fans over the GPU's.... Ive always needed more cooling than originally thought when enclosing many GPUs so close together. This means a big increase in noise usually.
Food for thought, but not a bad idea; just aluminum sheets to cover the rig, attach with screws. Simplistic.

This thread is to gauge interest in a frame to mount 6 GPUs and three 120mm fans. Enclosing the frame with some kind of sheeting is left as a DIY project for the at home miner.
The idea is to separate the motherboard and PSU(s) from the GPUs - while still fully enclosing the GPUs for optimal cooling - for a fraction of the cost of a server case.
The frame is completely modular, which will allow the fans to be mounted at either the front or back of the frame/case.
Thoughts/comments?
