I have the Teak slab marked up ready for carving, I made a few very subtle changes
in order to hopefully make it a tad less stressful to carve. I have just a few pieces of
apparatus to get before I start, like lighting and magnification to aid the accuracy.

Ah I have the Dremel for about 8 years and has served me well for many projects but
I didnt have fine bits.

I did look at CNC machines, small ones for small projects but I didnt fancy having it
in the house, so putting it in the garage would mean buying a laptop, it would just
get financially too much.

The larger piece of wood was heavy enough that it wasnt moving so no need to clamp it.
For the first real attempt I made a clamp which holds the working piece in place and gives
a bigger area to hold and work with.

but I do plan to create something.
I'm glad you didn't give up on the idea [I completely forgot this thread existed].

Yesterday evening I ran a test with a rotary tool Dremel which I plan to use with some fine milling bits.
That's a nice little upgrade but it still requires having a good technique... Out of curiosity, how much did you spend on it?
- If you purchased one that came with the complete package [around a hundred dollars], you could've got a cheap CNC machine for a similar price.

The piece is quite small The same size as the planned finished piece so I screwed it to another piece of wood in order to fix it in one position. I will make a few more experiments on how to be more precise.
Is the larger piece, clamped to the table?

This idea has been on the back burner since my last post here but I do plan to create
something. Yesterday evening I ran a test with a rotary tool Dremel which I plan to use
with some fine milling bits.

The result of some doodling is not bad, I'm not concerned about getting the design onto
the wood. I'm confident in my hand precision but my concern is my eyesight!

Thanks for the interest SFR10.

Yes it will be difficult to carve let alone draw but if I take enough time with both steps
I'm confident [ATM] I can do it. I do a few trial runs on some scrap Teak first, if I can
manage it and based on interest so far I will just create one piece which you can avail of.

Bit of a challenge but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

So I have created two more designs with some more details and tried tom focus on something different. I had a quick look at some coin designs as per @SFR10 but didnt dwell on them too much as I wanted to create my own designs without too much infleuence on others.

Its one thing to create a design, the next step is ransferring it to something physical.

I would definitely buy your first original design [I can't say the same for the second one], but isn't that a bit too hard to carve with the hand?
- Based on the slab sizes, I think it'll be extremely difficult to carve those in such a small space.

the biggest issue is that the pieces are small so the task of marking out a design is tricky let alone carving.

I wanted these to be simple designs without too much fine detail.

Any ideas as to what you would like to see?
Off the top of my head, I would really like to see a unique design along the lines of Kialara bars [original or hydra]; in other words, pretty much the opposite of what you've mentioned in the above middle line and since it's quite tricky to do such styles, then it becomes equally difficult to think of a simple and yet beautiful design.

I did a test run last weekend at carving the Bitcoin symbol into a piece,
~Snipped~
the result is from a quick enough job
Since you're using your hands to carve on it, I'm curious to see/know how much better/cleaner it could get if you try to improve it?
Just to be clear, I don't expect to see a similar result to what a CNC machine could achieve.

No CNC. I'm confident I can get a cleaner result taking my time, the biggest issue
is that the pieces are small so
the task of marking out a design is tricky let alone carving.

So I am gauging some interest in the concept of some carved Teak products with
very low quantities.
Personally, I love the idea but not the designs [an original one would be a lot better] and the end result so far [sorry if I'm a bit too harsh].

Thanks, constructive criticism is always welcome. As above because of the sizes
of the blocks I'm limited as to what I can acheive from both skill and technicalities.

I wanted these to be simple designs without too much fine detail. The date idea is
now abandoned after te first attempt over the weekend. drilling holes by hand even
over a template is not happening.

Any ideas as to what you would like to see?

I have got some aged Teak offcuts which I have been storing for some unknown
future project and I have decided to make a move and create something of them.

          ----------

I did a test run last weekend at carving the Bitcoin symbol into a piece, profiled
the outside edge, applied some Gold Acrylic paint and gave it two coats of satin
varnish to finish, the result is from a quick enough job but I like the result.

So I am gauging some interest in the concept of some carved Teak products with
very low quantities.

          ----------

The first plan is to make a set of two, Bitcoin and Litecoin, inlaid with Gold and Silver
Acrylic paint. Artwork below and some some sample images. I'm planning 5 sets,
They will be numbered, A1/2 & A2/2, B..., C..., D..., E... I still have to figure out how I will do that though.

Size of each: 9.4cm x 6.2cm x 1.8cm approximately [easy to post]

This is the initial sample to convert what I had in my head to something physical

These are the 2 slabs ready for carving

and this is the artwork

On a slightly larger scale I have plans to make something from 4 slabs,
15.2cm x 8.8cm x 2cm approx. but i am undecided on the artwork.

I will potentially start off with the smaller set first.
