They should appear straight away.
Sounds like a bug in the screen refresh or similar.
If you could email your log files (which don't contain private keys) to "support at multibit dot org" I will have a look to see if there is anything unusual in them.

Hey,
I'm using Multibit 0.5.13 on Xubuntu 13.04 and I noticed that when I generate receiving addresses, they won't immediately show up.
I have to restart the client to be able to see them.
I just wondered whether this is supposed to be like that, or not?
