Announcing MyEtherWallet v3.24.00: Difficulty Bomb&Updating blockchain

Due to the complexity of the Bomb and the increased risk of hacking, we pushed a rather drastic update that implements a number of changes and improvements, including enhancement of efficiency and scalability of the blockchain, acceleration of transaction speed, and additional security in the form new formats private keys which will help protect users against hacking.
If you are using private key or UTC, then you need to go into the wallet and update manually, otherwise they risk being unprotected.

How do i update my Ethereum wallet?

1. Go to our website MyEtherWallet.com
2. Unlock your wallet using your Keystore File (UTC / JSON) or simply use your private key.
3. Click Unlock and wait for the update.

Please note that you need to manually update your wallet, failure to do so may result in funds being lost.

We are taking these measures to protect both you and our network from phishing and malicious attacks.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
MyEtherWallet Security Team.

If you use other methods, then ignore this message.

My apologies, apparently it was just a ~12 hour period of connectivity problems. Bitcoin gold rush paranoia I guess  Wink

Just a random streak of bad luck.  It looks steady to me.

Competition doesn't have an effect until the next automatic retarget adjustment, and we haven't reached the next one yet.

The adjustments are every 2016 blocks.  To calculate our progress towards the next one, divide the block total by 2016.  The fractional part is how far we are to the next one.

My back-of-the-envelope projection: 42032 blocks/2016 = 20.85 = 85% of the way.  About 1.5 days to go until the next one.  That'll only be about 10 days since the last one, the target is 14 days, so 14/10 = 1.4 = around 40% difficulty increase.

No problem here. Other clients just happened to generate those blocks before you.

Ideas? I would want a copy of this hypothetical CUDA-enabled client. However, I doubt that GPGPU acceleration would affect generation speeds very much. Only the most expensive of modern graphics cards have a clock speed of over 1 Ghz, after all.

Am I the only one seeing minuscule generation lately? It was decent until around 20:00 GMT February 21st, but after that my machine (4 core I7) produced only one block for entire >12 hours. And there isn't even a clue for new difficulty hike in the debug log.

Here are my possible scenarios:

1. Some big BC bot came along.

2. Someone is trying some kind of DoSing the system.

3. Someone built a bitcoin mod with GPGPU (CUDA or sorts) support.

4. Some kind of growth problem (i.g. we reached first of a kind network size and there is problem with that).

Ideas?
