Of course you didn't get paid, you should not be easily trust someone from internet. How could he know ifyou are already downloaded that 10 documents? It will be worse if those documents contained with virus and your computer got affected. I don't understand why people still interested with fishy job like this which pay little penny (if they are really pay) but the risk is too damn high.
It seems that there is no proof of payment for those who did the offer. Once there is a payment proof I will download those files, I don't want to work without assurance to get paid or else you are working for free with op and he is the one that is benefiting with your efforts.
