It will be most likely a server edition Ubuntu.
If you need a GUI you can install necessary packages manually:

I have no idea if X Window is a part of the service or not.
If yes then install VNC -> https://www.digitalocean.com/community/articles/how-to-setup-vnc-for-ubuntu-12

Try an ssh client like Putty first.

I have done so, and I can log in with no problems. I need to acces the desktop, or isnt that possible with ubuntu vps

I bought myself a VPS just to test something, but can anyone tell me how to log in via remote desktop ?
Eacht time I try to log in it shows an error, saying computer is not turned on/ remote acces is not turned on / computer is not ready for remote acces.

I'm using windows 7 64bit

The VPS has the latest ubuntu server os on it.
