I can't really comment on the Windows vs Linux issue, but I can vouch for the SSE2 miner as being at least twice as fast as the other CPU miners on an Intel Core 2 Duo processor.  With normal miners I get 1000 khash/s, while with the SSE2 miner I get closer to 3000 khash/s per core.  Granted, it runs the processor quite hotter than most applications so I typically only use one core at a time for CPU health reasons, but that's what it is.

I'm on Ubuntu.  Would switching to something on Windows really be faster?

I'm legitimately asking, not being sarcastic.

Try this SSE miner. I'm using a Core 2 Duo E8400 and my rate increased from ~2mhash to ~7mhash.

Hey there,

I'm just wondering if anyone would be willing to give me any suggestions (beyond buying a new computer) to improve my hash rate.  I have a Intel Core Duo 2.28 w/ 3 GB L3 cache.  Unfortunately I'm sitting on a ATI Mobility 3400...so no GPU mining for me.  I'm running jgarik's (I think that's his name) miner and only getting roughly 300khps with 2 threads and the cryptopp algorithm. The 4way algorithm seems to be popular, but I can't get above 200kbps with it.

There was a fellow on the new pooled mining thread saying I should be getting proof of works every 6 minutes or so.  I can't get 1 in 6 hours...more like 12 or 13.
