i'm using the Asrock Z87 Killer edition. it too as a molex connection on the motherboard to support multi-GPUs.
I found that 4x R9 280x works good with unpowered risers. But for safety's sake i used only 3 unpowered riser and had 2 extra 280x with the powered ones.

Hello, this is mostly a question to owners.

The Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H comes with an additional SATA power connector that helps supplement power to the PCI-E slots.

I have been watching the Bits Be Trippin' Episode 10, and they are using the H81 BTC board, plugging in the molex connections and using unpowered risers for a stable hashrate. They had problems getting the board to work with powered risers + mobo pci-e MOLEX connected.

From what I understand specifically with the H81 BTC, it comes down to two methods:

1. If you are using the MOLEX connectors, use unpowered risers.

2. If you have those neat USB 3.0 powered risers, don't plug power into the MOLEX.

Now my question is, for the Z87X-UD3H, does the SATA PCI-E power connector supplement enough power to the PCI-E slots for use with 6x GPU (270/280x) without any problems? The H81 BTC MOLEX can, how do I determine if the Z87X-UD3H will power it enough?

If you own the board, please let me know how you have it setup and how many cards you're using. Thanks
