On Github, user hd49728 has written a very good tutorial:
Altcoin season, scam altcoin projects will appear. Check their Githubs first
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/altcoin-season-scam-altcoin-projects-will-appear-check-their-githubs-first-5225942
Read the entire topic. When choosing a project for investment, it is not worth analyzing only Github,
but most scam projects tend to increase activity on social networks.

What does github activity actually refers to? According to this- https://www.cryptomiso.com/, there are many project which have very active updates regularly in the github. Is it a good sign of having great futures? I have seen many coins which I count as shit projects are in good ranking according to the github activity.
I myself rarely browse about github on any project, so I don't really know what github activity is,
and if this is really important for people in crypto to know, then I will try to learn from now.

To the best of my knowledge, when a project have an active GitHub account/profile, it shows how active they are and how serious they are taking their project's development. For me I believe that, for a project to take extra length of having an active GitHub account means they won't scam, since it shows a dedicated team. But nowadays, hardly can we see projects which have active GitHub account, many are just copycats, hyped projects and nothing more and the most reason why they dump without recovering. Also, in my understanding, yes it shows a project with a good future because once the team have get their works adequate and improved, they will last long term..

It is because I could just cleanup whitespaces in my current source code and do a commit command as well. That would count already as a single commit when I didn't do anything at all. Imagine if I redo what I did and did a commit command again. I can do it infinitely.
Using number of activities/commits is too inaccurate if a project is indeed active or being actively "worked on".

GH activity can be a double edged sword.
People could just be commiting comments and making it look really active, while they don't do anything.
On the other hand, a project could have like 1 commit a month and be like WOW

GitHub activities only refers to the development work. It does not mean that the project will succeed. It only means work in progress. There are many project which are yet to come on an exchange for more than two years now but have active development.

That means the developer is actively working on the project. It's one of the many signs but it doesn't mean the project that the dev is working on is fundamentally sound. It is bound to fail if the idea is shit to begin with or the business model is weak. You can't turn a shit into Gold.

It's more like the development of the open source code of the project actually, like what mentioned above. But github activity does not always mean the deployment of the feature on the project. It also does not mean a better project or bad, it just that the team/dev behind the project is focused and determined to finish it or add something useful regardless the community will like it or not.

Development?  What else. But of course you have to be careful. Some project just appeared and have a lot development activity when others simply work and have less. Also some simply copy other projects code.  But github activity can easily weed out total scams. When Bitconect was something everyone was talking about at end of 2017 if you would look at their github activity you would see is none for a year.
