On exchanges they may well need a copy of your passport for withdrawal purposes which is understandable for obvious reasons but as for airdrops, I would shy away from giving them my passport details.

This is exactly what i would have said.  I wouldn't give that kinda information away easily, too risky in my honest opinion.

In airdrops, I do not recommend giving my passport. Often it is necessary to pass verification with a passport, but this is already in serious projects, there it is possible, I do so.

Most of the Airdrops are asking Passport as the verification document. Can we really trust them to give such kind of a sensitive document ?. what are your opinions ?.
Does Airdrops really asking Passport/ID card for verification? Why do they need for it? Personally, I would never give that info to Airdrops, it looks suspicious. There are many scam Airdrops and I suspect that they may use our personal details for a bad things and then we can get in serious trouble.
I understand that exchanges and ICO's have to ask for user verification to follow KYC and AML. But when it comes to ICO's and exchanges, I'm trying to give my personal details as less as possible, I don't like to share my personal details to unknown websites. If you want to give your passport scan to Airdrop project, you should know about risks. If I would be you, I would try to protect my sensitive information.

why would they need passport as the verifcation document
why would they even need to verify you on an airdrop? it's crypto... it's pseudonymous...

For a fiat exchange, on the other hand, you should probably get used to it. Depending on how much convenience you want.

It's not that easy to cash in and out of crypto, and you will probably want to deal with coin/fiat exchanges at some point (e.g. Coinbase). These companies are (depending on region) required to verify your identity for tax and money-laundering purposes.
on the other hand, in the case of fiat related exchanges I agree with requiring verification
in most countries that deemed crypto/fiat exchanges legal, the exchange must follow the regulations
and the basic regulations on exchanges is KYC and AML imposed by the local government

All you need is to do a background check about the project before sending your passport, some project like Arcblock are so trusted as they have profile team and all.

There a lot of scams in airdrop ICO, so i don't recommend you to send them your ID, utility bills etc.

No, I would not share this document for an airdrop. Why would a dev team need this? I'd be highly suspicious of a project that required it.

You can, of course, use a service like localbitcoins for buying and selling, but that's off-topic.

In short, for an airdrop, HELL no.

I like coins. I love ONION.
Passport as in Country to Country passport? I would not for an airdrop. I can understand that exchanges which are possibly answerable to certain governments for tax information may accept a passport as identification document but luckily that is not a requirement that I have seen as I do not have a passport.
