So can I sleep well keeping 90%+ of my BTC life savings in it, or it may be advisable to scale down a bit just in case of a flock of black swans?

BTW: I see that you have a super-hero status and much respect from the forum, but as far I know you remain anonymous and GLBSE does not seem registered under any jurisdiction (and: there are other operators running it? What happens if you end under a bus?). If I tried to explain this to my friends or wife they would probably think I am sort of stupid to let my monies flow between anon internet entities.

I have Nefario on my personal Facebook and pictures of his wife  Tongue

Just to be clear, those are facebook pictures of my wife, nothing inappropriate; Mathew you make it sound so dirty.

I apologise if my post instigated anything else (must be your perverted mind) but she is very pretty  Wink

I'm not anonymous, my real life identity is fairly well known. We're also adding steps to prepare for the unfortunate event of me getting hit by a bus, they should be in place to allow GLBSE to continue on without me in about a months time.

Finally I would say it's a bad idea to keep a lot of bitcoin on any website, if it's savings and a significant amount keep it in your own offline wallet. GLBSE itself keeps the majority of it's users funds offline, topping up the hot wallet from time to time depending on demand.

Not being affected by any given security breach does not necessarily indicate your service is secure.

It seems like you are taking advantage of others' misfortune to plug your own brand.  Not the way I want the services I use to promote themselves.

Come on nef, you are better than this.

Not really, this was an announcement letting GLBSE users know that we were not effected. A lot of services were hit by this, and if we had used Linode it might also have been us.

In terms of security, GLBSE by it's very design is considerably more secure than a traditional web-app. It's just a pain in the ass to use and develop for.

I would like to inform users and customers of GLBSE that we are not effected by the recent security breaches of Linode and those services that use them.

That's very good news. GLBSE gets execution brownie points.

I would like to inform users and customers of GLBSE that we are not effected by the recent security breaches of Linode and those services that use them.

We don't use Linode, and take considerable measures to keep our customers bitcoin safe.

The vast majority of bitcoin entrusted with GLBSE is kept in a secure, backed up, offline wallet. We don't run hot wallets with large balances, and since the very beginning of GLBSE security has been our #1 concern.
