They want people using domestic providers so they have no warrant access to your email anytime they want.

like my advice before, please try Bitnet VPNcoin
Bitnet VPNcoin is from china
Never trust a company from China, that's the rule.
Because all  company in China have to corporate with the government.
If the don't, the have to leave China, as google.
Chinese companies do tent to not play on a fair playing field. This is why it is advisable to trade with caution with chinese companies. You need to remember that the government plays a huge role in the Chinese economy

http://dl.bitvise.com/Tunnelier-Inst.exe
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2464

Install Tunnelier.

In the 'login' tab use these settings
Host: ssh.eldin.co
Port: 22
Username: greatantifirewall
Initial Method: Password
Password: 7539515214852
Check: Store encrypted password in profile.

Under the services tab, set up the proxy option as follows:
In the SOCKS/HTTP Proxy Forwarding area:
Check 'Enabled'
Listen Interface: 127.0.0.1
Listen Port: 1080
(Leave the rest alone)

Save and name the profile to a folder 'Tunnelier Profiles' perhaps in 'My Documents'.

Install FoxyProxy in firefox and set up a new proxy as follows.

Under proxy details tab check 'Manual configuration'.
Host or IP Address: 127.0.0.1
Port: 1080
Check: SOCKS Proxy
Select: SOCKS v5

Launch the profile from the desktop and then select the proxy in firefox with FoxyProxy.
Remember to disable FoxyProxy and exit out of Tunnelier when you're finished.

What are the motives behind such a decision? What I don't understand is that if "hostile" forces to China (and there are many in this primitive world) want to communicate it's not a gmail ban that will stop them to do so... only death works 100% guaranteed.

$ sudo apt-get install lor
$ torsocks firefox
The tor is also blocked.
BTW, lots of us just use windows.
I don't think you can actually block tor. Even if the 'main' entry guards are blocked, there are special ones that are not public that people can connect to in order to hide the fact they are using tor.

I don't think this is a google/gmail issue, it is more likely a china (firewall) issue (the chinese government is censoring speech)
The tor can't connect tor net in China, all bridge can't be used in China. So the tor was blocked in China.
Yes, gmail was blocked by China.
If you know what's the GFW, then you understand all of this.
Actually, you can't use google search also.

If you'd like to set up e-mail forwarding, you can use TeamViewer with someone that's located elsewhere (not China), so you can preserve your password, and still receive all your emails.

There are many way to avoid the ban of China. Have you tried to buy a VPN? Or install TOR in your PC? Another way could be a change of your DNS. There are some website of my country which is banned and when I need to go in that website, I change DNS and it is all ok.  Smiley

You can use free VPNs, like the guy mentioned, or you can directly set it up with Microsoft Outlook, and it'll access the material for you. You can also set up e-mail forwarding to an alternate address (the same way Outlook operates) if you have someone outside of China that could log-in and set it up for you (that you trust).

The tor is also blocked.
Maybe it's banned in mind of firewall administrators, but not in the real world. There is no need to establish a direct connection, you can use bridges.

BTW, lots of us just use windows.
There is no significant difference here.
