I think they will stick something hidden in it that, should it pop up on anyone's computer or in their web browser and then be dropped to the computer like a cookie, will be considered proof of illegal activity that they can then throw the book at someone for...and then proceed to find a very public person or company to throw the book at, leaving everyone else running scared.

That's a big part of how e-Gold got crushed when the government decided they didn't like e-Gold due to who the people were who used it.  e-Gold is still out there, but the present day owner wears an ankle monitoring bracelet everywhere he goes, even to the office...or at least he did a few months ago when I saw an article about him and the current day status of e-Gold.

Picture leaving your wi-fi connection open to anyone without any kind of security or password to lock them out (stupid, I know, but just go with it).  Somebody comes up outside your door parked in their car and using their laptop.  They use your wi-fi to send a message to the US Secret Service.  Actually, they threaten the president's life.  Guess who will likely show up at YOUR DOOR in about 20 minutes if you live in any major city in the US???

People have been phoning cops and pretending to be in danger or claiming a man with a gun has gone into someone's home lately, especially in the Hollywood and Beverly Hills and other areas of California where movie stars live.  They have a name...it's called "SWAT-ing" somebody.  The cops show up, guns drawn, thinking they are there to negotiate and/or shoot up some really bad guys to save the day and they find out the call was fake.  So far nobody's been killed, but you never know.

Or worse, that same person is sitting outside your door, and they know but don't like you.  And they know your wi-fi is unsecured.  They could just login to your computer somehow and upload a bunch of really ugly photos (ugly by what they are, and the truth is they wouldn't need to load that many) onto your computer, and you might not know they are even there.  If they are photos of naked children in suggestive poses then if you are discovered to have those photos on there you might be facing going to jail for a very long time...and since this person doesn't like you it's possible they just might send the cops in your direction in the first place.

What if someone did something like that to Bitcoin in such a way that having the ugly thing in the wallet is somehow used as proof against you?

(Of course, what if I just have a really vivid imagination?)

It will not happen overnight if it ever does, personally I dont think they ever will, maybe restrictions, but not outlawed. It is a worldwide currency and cannot be 100% done -

My theory is they (the various governments) will just tax the hell out of exchanges making it cost to much to convert from bitcoin to "cash".

Is it possible that bitcoin might get outlawed? Perhaps seen as a threat to national security? Or perhaps rockefellers and rothschilds destroy bitcoin? What do you think?

No, people don't "outlaw" things like this.

Worst case scenario people try to sabotage it, ie buy all the coins and horde them

Yeah? I'd like to see them try and buy my coins. It will coast them quite a bit. And then, when they have indeed bought 'all' the coins and made us all millionaires, we'll just swich to another crypto, jokes on them.

I think it has too much momentum to be completely outlawed at any one point, but this whole industry could go down.

Nothing like healthy scepticism and hard evidence
Bitcoin per se is not under threat, but the exchanges that accept trading bitcoins for state money and withdraws to the banking system, might be under threat of money laundering accusations. Remember what happened to egold. The problem is that if MtGox gets closed because of pressure of the American government over the japanese government, bitcoin will survive, but its price will take a very big dip.

Sure it can happen - the US government did it with gold:

Enforceable? Well, that's another question Smiley

I think it is not big enough to worry any government and has serious limitations that prevent it from becoming too big.
I see it more likely that we will see a far better cryptocoin in the future. There are a lot of people thinking about enhancements...

Being a distributed network I think it would take some serious effort to disrupt it, the only people who would want to 'outlaw' it are those that depend on the fiat type paper money system.... sadly most governments rely on this :/

I don't think they can outlaw it that suddenly, they still need to build up the propaganda, make the gullible people beg for it to become illegal, same thing as with firearms, people will beg for their rights to be taken away before this happens.

Agreed. We'll see this prepared long before it actually happens.

Yeah it's possible. More likely is that exchange companies get raided. Quite a few of them have had their bank accounts frozen in recent weeks.
