Being a newbie doesn't mean you can only participate in airdrops, there are really some ICO here that accept newbie to take part in their signature campaign, specially twitter and facebook campaign, as long as you have many followers and friends in your account. you just need to search them.
About the airdrop, some airdrops are profitable but most of them are just shitcoins, that the reason why I don't really join any airdrop, not unless the ICO also have different bounties.

I agree with the fact most airdrops do not worth sparing your time for. After participating in some airdrops, most especially referral airdrops, you may end up getting just meager amount of token. The question now is, does that really worth giving your time to? Well, if you are able to get good numbers of referrers, it might end up profiting the referral?. depends on what project you are looking at , some are not worth the time . only few are gems look at Ontology their airdrop is worth 1000$ now
notable names Polymath & Eximchain . and btw try HODLing QSP , they gave insentives for those who hold QSP . every month they conduct airdrops there last airdrop is 470 XNK and 280 INSTAR
