All very good points, I was looking at the LE-1250 refurb only in terms of cost. I also didn't consider the lack of heatsink out of habit since I've got probably a dozen laying around that I could use for an AM2 chip.

I got the 145 for my file server and do exactly that. Capable, low power usage, but nice to have that dual core available if I need it in the future with transcoding or whatever else I want to do on it.

No heatsink included. Hard to beat that Sempron 145 w/ boxed heatsink. Good choice tough if you pick up heatsinks on eBay -> http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=amd+heatsink&_sacat=See-All-Categories

Yes.  Better to spend a little more and get the more current AM3.  When you retire the machine (switch to your asic powered MRBITCOIN) you can unlock the second core on the vast majority of them and run them at 3.0ghz as a dual core.  I have done it to more then ten of them, only one did not work.  When I mine, I have just one core going and have them slightly underclocked.

Perfect for mining rigs especially considering there are a few low-priced AM2 boards with two PCIe x16s.
