i looked into lighthouse and i didn't like the fact there is a minimum funding amount in relation to how much u want to raise. if someone wanted to pledge $1 they can't if your funding goal is $2000+... thats one big issue i have with it. the dev said when the block size increases, this problem would be solved.
Yes, lighthouse imposes a minimum pledge size based on your funding goal. This is because if there are too many pledges in total, the final Bitcoin transaction which settled all the accounts would be too large to fit comfortably into a single block.
The crowdfunding solutions such as StartJOIN get around this by having a trusted 3rd party to hold all the money until the deadline is reached.

I like StartJOIN because it provides a platform for crowdfunding with Bitcoin.
I far prefer Lighthouse (beta) because it enables decentralised crowdfunding!

I'm looking to use one of the crowdfunding platforms and noticed that startjoin accepts Bitcoin, but they are lacking users as it seems. Does anyone have any feedback on this?
The other alternative was to use kickstarter or indiegogo as they have a much more established name and user base.

I really haven't used Kickstarter and the first time I heard about crowdfunding, I heard about startjoin...
Does kickstarter accept Bitcoin too?
There was Bitcoinstarter.com but currently it is in re-development.
This is what I call the "eBay effect" and it's an unfortunate reality that there are just some situations where not going with the biggest provider can put you at a severe disadvantage. This holds true for crowdfunding as well as other situations where a larger user base = greater chance of success. An eBay clone can never compete with eBay no matter how low their fees are, or how user-friendly they happen to be, or how many cryptocurrencies they happen to support because well... they're not eBay. For those who want customers, the rational choice is to head to the market with the most potential customers and in OP's case, this is Kickstarter and to a lesser extent, Indiegogo. Therefore, smaller companies in the same market like StartJoin will always find it very hard to compete and will face an uphill battle.

Your best bet is Kickstarter. There is one basic rule in crounfdunding. And that is: you need to find more people to back you up. Kickstarter has the biggest user base of all crowdfunding platforms right now. now the question is startjoin or kickstarter?
Do not falter to put your project there, forget about StartJoin as their user base is just like... poor.

I think if you are going to back some interesting project you think is valuable it does not matter if you use FIAT or Bitcoin for it. What I am trying to say, if something really ground breaking is on KickStarter I would back it anyway, despite that they are not accepting bitcoin for it. If you're looking to crowdfund, go where the crowds are and forget about what currency they're paying in unless it's a crypto project.
Startjoin is about to have a big boost in notoriety due to Russell Brand using to raise funds for his 'revolution', but if you want to get something done you have to go where your best chances will be.
