Rikafip, I hope there are many other services that will adopt bitcoin payments in the future. It doesn't matter if it's a centralized service but the best thing is that they accept bitcoin payments. To me, that doesn't detract from the real use case of bitcoin as a legal currency and tender so maybe in the future there will be many other services willing to adopt it and follow in this footsteps.

Maybe this is the good news that we are waiting for which could trigger a massive bull run.
It won't be big, but we'll go through the stages. Bitcoin will be bullish again if there is a lot of market demand. This news doesn't have much of an impact on bitcoin, so the impact on its price won't be as big as you might expect.

That's a piece of very good news whenever we see some company accepting bitcoin for payment they start a partnership with a bitcoin related company and especially the bitcoin exchanges regarding this, coinbase is one of the oldest bitcoin and cryptocurrency exchanges in the world, and in the hand, google is one of the most famous companies, I guess this partnership between these two ain't companies can have good effects on bitcoin accepting situation in the world, and will attract more attention for other companies to start accepting bitcoin for their business.
This isn't the first company that supports a crypto or had a partnership with a crypto entity but all of them are only a normal company. This one we have here is different. It's google this time. I think we all know that google is a big and famous company. They play a major role in the internet and the gadgets that we are using today so this could bring a positive impact in the cryptos that we know.

It can give them a wide exposure and people won't be afraid to try it anymore because google is the one who offers it. It helps speed up the adoption process. Maybe this is the good news that we are waiting for which could trigger a massive bull run.

Right, I think this is a big step for Google in accepting crypto payments. Although crypto has so far been mostly used for speculative purposes, the fact that Google is willing to accept crypto payments for cloud service is an encouraging sign that crypto may indeed be here to stay although Google will explore specific use cases in the future.

we will begin to see cryptocurrencies become an integral part of the cloud storage and processing ecosystem. This will be a boon for both crypto investors and cloud users, as a service like this will allow people to pay for their memory in a way they may never have considered before.

As the title says, Google plans to start accepting crypto payments for their cloud service early next year via partnership with Coinbase. No matter  what people think about Coinbase and centralized exchanges in general this is a good news and a step in the right direction regarding crypto adoption.

Google (GOOGL) will start accepting crypto payments for cloud services early next year, according to a press release.

Announced Tuesday at Google’s Cloud Next conference, the tech giant said it will receive crypto payment via an integration with crypto exchange Coinbase (COIN).

Crypto payments will initially be rolled out to a handful of customers involved in the Web3 industry. Google will also user Coinbase's custody service, Coinbase Prime.
Very big move. If Google is starting to accept crypto as a payment this means nothing can really stop the revolution of Cryptos to happen. Even big governments will bow against Google for sure once they are determined to bring Cryptos into forefront. But yes partnership with coinbase means Google will not hold Cryptos for sure. It will immediately realise the proceedings received from cryptos to fiat and then get it in its bank account. If they start keeping bitcoin in their balance sheet also that will be hell of a big revolution.
But it can be said that since Google started accepting crypto, it will try to adopt bitcoin everywhere today or tomorrow. It's also easier for freelancers to accept payments in crypto than in fiat. So gradually I hope every level will invite Google to accept crypto but here it may need long time. Overall this can be said to be great news for the crypto community.

I declare myself guilty of hoarding satoshis both in bear market and bull market, at this pace I will certainly take my private keys to the grave.  Roll Eyes
I mentioned the state of the market because usually, people tend to jump into cryptocurrencies during bull markets, when the price and developments make it easily to the mainstream media, in the end Google is ran by people, even though, we sometimes forget about it.

I know that most people tend to spend more when they see their investment is on profit - even if only "on paper" since 1BTC = 1BTC - but I hope that you agree that this is bad/wrong and should not matter since this kind of spenders may not be reliable (a business cannot in bull market days only), they should look at those spending no matter what; plus people's mentality should start to change and see Bitcoin is money, not only an investment tool.

And whether you get your private keys to the grave (and make everybody a bit richer) or not, I advise you consider enjoying some of those sats now and then.

Also, Good point with Monero and KYC. They could assemble and very nice list of interest for many people in the goverment.

This is really good news. Adoption is finally speeding up little by little. Thats exactly what I like to see. An entire country adopting Bitcoin is one thing but the fact that Google is adopting Bitcoin... Thats like a part of every country in the world in the metaphysical sense. So a lot of people will start turning to Bitcoin as a currency. I do wonder how long it will take now for Bitcoin to become the global money. A few more years? Perhaps a decade?

Decentralization is too amazing not to be considered an integral part of the future of human technology. The more Bitcoin adopters we have, the more people start learning and understanding this.

It's completely limited to coins supported by Coinbase [Commerce] and they are the ones who choose which coins to list. And Monero was completely delisted a long time ago.

A shame.
I have notice that, for example, Binance US does not allow people to commerce Monero while Binance Global does have the option to do so, even to withdraw to external wallets, so I assume it has something to do with the regulation of USA rather than a choice taken by exchanges. Something they need to do to continue operating under that jurisdiction.

Technically they're not truly accepting payments through Bitcoin. They're merely accepting payments through Coinbase, like they accept payments through PayPal.
True, but its important to take one step after another. I don't think that it is realistic to expect from such a big company like Google to start accept bitcoin directly P2P. I mean, it would be great of course, but even this is a positive thing. Slow and steady wins the race so who knows, in a few years they might start accepting bitcoin directly.  Grin
Firstly, this is certainly good news for bitcoin users even though they have just received it from a centralized exchange.

The partners between Google and Coinbase is expected to be a good form of support for bitcoin, but I think it would be better if Google could accept it directly rather than just through Coinbase. Sooner or later some changes can be expected, so it is good that this early stage is welcomed by the community even though it is still in the shadow of centralized service.

People should never be scared of centralized exchanges being some bridge between companies and them. This was supposed to happen. We are still at early ages of Bitcoin. We need far more time for Bitcoin to become completely independent option of payment through huge companies. Until that day, Coinbase, Binance, Bitfinex don't matter at all. Anyone increasing Bitcoin influence is welcome to financial world.

Good news!

But to play the devil's advocate, they "accept" Bitcoin "payments" through a centralized third party? Technically they're not truly accepting payments through Bitcoin. They're merely accepting payments through Coinbase, like they accept payments through PayPal.
I don't get really excited when I read a thing like this anymore, though I still appreciate the fact that Bitcoin is gaining more adoptions over the years. But the condition they will subject you to is not really fair. This is a third-party arrangement, and I quite understand Google trying to avoid some risks of fluctuations in the price of Crypto.

Yet, it is always the users/customers that will be at a loss as the price they will be giving will be manipulated as they always do, thereby forcing us to pay more. I got angry due to this kind of arrangement in August due to Coinbase partnering with a company I had a deal with.

They would never accept bitcoin directly. I mean, common it's Google, they find ways to track our data. Why would they even consider using a service that doesn't give them enough data about their customers.
Just 11-12 years ago bitcoin was something that was used only by a handful of cypherphunks and enthusiasts, and now we can see into what this has developed so I wouldn't use "never" easily when it comes to bitcoin adoption. And who says that they can't get enough data from their customers just because they would pay with bitcoin.

I think they are partnering with Coinbase just so that they can get more data about people involved in crypto.
That could be the case as well, but somehow I doubt that they need Coinbase help when it comes to that as they are doing pretty good on their own in that regard.

There would definitely be some rationale behind this move from Google.

Maybe I'm too old-fashioned when it comes to Bitcoin, so it might be strange to some that I think that neither Coinbase nor Google are good for Bitcoin, considering that both companies have long since shown their true colors when it comes to Bitcoin.~

When it comes to Google, their attitude towards the Internet is absolutely centralist in every sense, and their inability or carelessness to control who and what they promote through their paid ads resulted (and still does) in great financial losses for all who do not know protect in a proper way.

Therefore, I think that this kind of partnership does not make much sense for the end user who values his privacy and wants to move as far away from such companies as possible.

It is should be expected that Google didn't chase those kinds of users. We know how much Google centralization rules the world through its browser, cloud, analytic platform, etc. But if we zoom out in regard solely to adoption, no matter how they implement the payments system or whether they end up selling or keeping the coin, I think it will benefit the cryptocurrency scene as a whole.

Some might prevent or minimize to use of any Google-related services, but there exist some people who truly get benefits due to Google implementing cryptocurrency payments, and while on the other hand, the community indirectly gets its own publicity. It is just a matter of choice.

My point is this, unless there are many jobs that pay in Bitcoin, do they expect Google service users to buy Bitcoin then use that to pay Google? Because it would have been more efficient to pay in fiat directly, unless Google accepts Bitcoin only.

Plus just ignore me, it was just a shower thought, I know I look nit-picky posting it. But it is still probably a wasteful way to use Bitcoin, especially if you have other payment methods.

My point is - it is not useless, but the effect of this announcement is less than people wish it could. It is clear that with time, it will be possible to pay in crypto for other Google services. But right now, cloud service, I think, isnt the main source of Google's income or not so many payments are done for cloud service, compared to payments for ads. People have already pumped those news like crypto adoption for whole Google, but this is just one service. This has similar effect of Tesla accepting dogecoin, with a minor clarification - only as a payment for accessories.

My point is not about whether it's good or bad that Google started to "accept" Bitcoin as payment. It's about, technically, does Google truly started to accept Bitcoin as payment.

All of you probably have gambled in Bitcoin casinos. You would probably know the difference between making a Bitcoin deposit direct to a casino, and a deposit to a third party processor and then deposit "pretend Bitcoins" to the casino. If that becomes the standard way to adopt Bitcoin, what do we need POW for?

Yes, it's cheering news but we can't be too excited when it comes to anything crypto and Google's involvement. Banking on Google to keep its word and not renege at the slightest excuse is like trusting Elon Musk on his word that Tesla would hodl Bitcoin long term without selling to take profit at any time. Did Tesla not at a point sell off? That's the point. I don't know why I keep insisting that Google can't be trusted after its negative press on crypto in 2018. It's a kind of deja vu for me.

Yes mate, centralized or not the important thing is to see btc acceptance on a large scale. Google is a multinational company with millions of users and coinbase is no less, these are two powerful combo that will bring crypto payment service to a large number of people.
This is definitely another great news, this is how mass adoption will eventually happen.

Even though coinbase is a centralized exchange, this is huge news! While centralization is one of the most nefarious aspects of the current economic model, we still need to use it to propel bitcoin's mass adoption.

Not coinbase but google is the focus in this situation. It can be seen that google is the world's leading technology company, their products are very close to ordinary users such as youtube, google search or office utility services. Google is ubiquitous in our tech lives, and this partnership is a breakthrough for the crypto industry. They are going through coinbase which is a centralized exchange but prove that they are cautiously accepting cryptos step by step which does not yet show that they have seen the potential of crypto.

It is somehow the same with other online bankings or wallets who claimed to adapt this technology but in reality it is just a three-way transaction and I cannot say that this is a direct adaptation. However, small things are better than nothing so I could say we can still count this one as one of the progress towards this industry's growth as a cryptocurrency. I hope that day wherein there will be actual online payments which would accept cryptocurrencies as mode of payment; those which are on the mainstream for such action to manifest in the eyes of non-crypto users.

As for the risk, even large companies like namecheap did not accept bitcoin directly except through a third party, and then after a while they accepted bitcoin directly.

The question now is, is it the end of the Bitcoin ads ban?

Please do not see my question as something not valuable. I have been trying to pass and before i make used of any exchange or platform i will possibly make sure i read to know their compliance before engaging myself with selfservices.

It is a great opportunity for us. and it is really a good news. Many times I myself have faced many problems by going to take the service of Google Cloud with credit card.  And meanwhile, it was unfair to impose high penalties if credit card payments were delayed every month in the bank on time. So it will be a great opportunity for us to use the services of Google Cloud very easily with cryptocurrency

Yes, but still though, it's a good and welcoming news to hear the big G, finally accepting BTC as "payment" scheme. Although the market didn't react positively about this news, as we are in the bear market.

So let's see how it goes, I mean we have platforms that accepts Bitcoin in the past, but suddenly decided to stop it for unknown reasons. So hopefully this partnership will last till the next bull run and so it's a win-win situation for both Google and their consumers.

Let us look at the bright side of the news, from a company that banned all things bitcoin and cryptocurrencies a few years ago, but they now have a completely different view on cryptocurrencies as a whole now. Not only lifted the ban but also started using it, showing that the crypto is developing in a positive direction. Everything should be applied slowly, not in a hurry, with google's lead, hopefully other tech corporations will follow in the footsteps of making bitcoin and cryptocurrencies more world-friendly.

This is already a big leap considering that Google generally is not a big fan of cryptocurrency...and so because they are enticed with the opportunity side of things they partnered with Coinbase which can be a big convenience for them...less headaches and less exposure to risks. As for me, I don't care if Google is using a third=party platform as a middleman in the process...this is big good news for the crypto industry as this means that Google has finally made a turnaround on how it is viewing cryptocurrency. Am hoping that soon more and more big business firms would be taking in crypto as another option for them to be accepting payments.

I came across this news this evening on Twitter, and honestly, it's difficult to find the right words to express the joy....
This is a very big win for the entire crypto community, remembering that Google, being one of the biggest company in the world, has in time pasts banned crypto ads on their sites, which expresses their disapproval for cryptocurrencies, and now, has turned around to partner with coinbase to begin accepting cryptocurrency payments...
Indeed, it's a turn around the whole crypto community should be proud about, bitcoin and cryptocurrencies at large is indeed, here to stay.

I like seeing these baby steps. While the implementation itself doesn't seem to make any sense (use a third party for something that was designed specifically to not need a 3rd party), it does show that large players are increasingly taking crypto seriously. It is exiting the "magic internet money" phase, and entering the beginning phase of mass adoption.
I don't consider it as a baby steps if Google will take at the end FIAT instead of cryptocurrencies. I don't know if Google will keep a sold in crypto or just convert it in the end to cash and withdraw it. I don't see anything mentioned in the article about the contract made between these two.

Make no mistake, Google will not miss the opportunity to start linking cryptocurrency addresses and balances to each profile of their clients and keep track of our possible total net worth in crypto to keep informed their friends in the government.

Let us see if they also allow people to adquire balance on Play Store with Bitcoin and other coins, it would be handy for us, users without any kind of credit card.

I don’t understand why Google is not making up their own system to accept the payments. Are they broke? Lolz.  Grin

Google could have been better at this by developing something their own, unique product which will attract more and more peeps with whole new experience of making payment through their “trusted brand” like Google.

It’s not for the first time they are using the third parties. Like in india they are using UPI and created Google Pay which uses traditional UPI method and keep promoting the app with new promos and stuff.

However, better options soon came into the market and they are now far far better than GPAY. That’s why it’s better they launch something unique. :-D

My more immediate concern is whether Google Cloud will start enforcing obscene KYC requirements on crypto payers and ruthlessly dismantle them from their platform like they do to gift/prepaid card users.
Even if they don't force users to pass KYC, people will still have to verify their identity for crypto payments.
I don't think they are going to accept real bitcoin payments. They will probably accept off-chain transaction through coinbase and people will have to pass KYC on coinbase.

Good news!

But to play the devil's advocate, they "accept" Bitcoin "payments" through a centralized third party? Technically they're not truly accepting payments through Bitcoin. They're merely accepting payments through Coinbase, like they accept payments through PayPal.

Hetzner already requires you to upload your passport if you pay by credit card.

Yes, but they are large enough to do their own credit card processing and banking yet they still use other people to do that. At a guess, they really don't want to deal with any of the financial processing things themselves. They are large enough to be able to negotiate good rates with processors so why bother to invest the time & money & other resources when you can just sign on the line and let someone else deal with the headache.

Of course. If they were accepting it directly they wouldn't need Coinbase.  Wink

Grin

It's a goodnews indeed as bitcoin serves them right in choice for making payments but also we must not forget the harm that can come through this online backup service providers, they are welcome into the world of adoption but that doesn't change the believe and conviction towards giving both of them a patronage to their services (coinbase and google cloud service provider), moreso we are close to the time where both of them will begin to seek for better security with blockchain with their services for maximum safety, which means even the cloud services and centralized exchanges were unsafe on the longrun.
