The measure is part of its newly updated financial services policy that introduces limits on several services considered to be high risk.
As the excerpt from Google's "new financial product policy" highlights, the ban extends to:
"Crypto-derivatives and related content (such as ICOs, buy and sell, crypto-coin wallets and trading advice for virtual currencies)".
In addition, Google also said that aggregators and affiliates who use their ads will not be able to host promotional material related to crypto-coins.
In other words, the internet giant is effectively disabling any advertisement related to virtual currencies on their website as well as on third party website that use their ad products.
The ban, a move aimed at eliminating fraud in the cryptographic space, will also impact legitimate or "regulated" companies that offer crypto-currency services.
Speaking to CNBC, Google's director of sustainable ads, Scott Spencer, explained the measure as a precautionary and necessary to protect consumers.
"We do not have a crystal ball that reveals where the future will go with the crypto-coins, but we have seen huge consumer damage or potential injury, and this is an area we want to approach very cautiously."
The policy change comes along with the release of Google's annual "bad ad" report, which points to more than 3.2 million advertisements withdrawn in 2017 for breach of the rules.
The company also unveiled a blacklist of 90,000 sites and 700,000 mobile apps that violated advertising policies.
Google's ban follows a similar move to Facebook, which also banned crypto-coin advertising in early January this year.
Facebook criticized what it called "derogatory or deceptive promotional practices" adopted by companies promoting ICOs or crypto-coins.
According to the social network, the measure will extend to other platforms owned by Facebook, such as Instagram. "We will review these policies and how we will strengthen them as our perceptions progress," Facebook said at the time.

I will add to this statement an official source where you can see more about these threats. But how can I understand this is another news that should bring down the market.
