These babies’s are monsters, Large in size and Power hungry. Need some help since this is my first rig and I’m a newbie of sort’s. Well here is the spec’s of the rig.

1.   1 x ASUS Rampage IV Extreme LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard
2.   4 x PowerColor AX7990 6GBD5-2DHJ Radeon HD 7990 6GB 384-bit x2 GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support
3.   1 x LEPA G Series G1600-MA 1600W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Full Modular Power
4.   1 x CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 Desktop Memory Model CMZ16GX3M2A2400C10
5.   1 x Intel Core i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 2011 130W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80619i73820
6.   1 x SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD128BW 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
7.   (Just in case More is needed or for rig 2.0) 1 x COOLMAX ZPS-1600B (14642) 1600W ATX12V v2.31 & EPS12V v2.92 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Modular
8.   4x PCIE X16 Risers
9.    Win7 64bit OS
10.    Reaper latest released beta for 64bitwin7
11.    Latest Drivers & bios.

Each 7990 has 2 7970 Gpu’s. ☺

Here is the question’s and issues I have come across.

When I install one 7990 everything is groovy, when I install the second the system becomes unstable and errors & various blue-screens of death occur.

Here is what I found out and tried.

Called AMD they said you can only put 2 7990’s on a mother board because they do not make the drivers to sustain them, they are already 4 7970 chips when using 2 7990’s. I called power-color and they said call AMD and update drivers. Removed old drivers and download the latest stable release and even tried the beta version without success. Flashed the bios to the latest version. With and without risers.

My results have been 1.4 Ghz at times or 8,000 to 10,000 khs but starts degradation cycle to 800khs.

Questions.

1.   How can I add successfully one more 7990, for a total of 2 connected to the motherboard per the AMD recommendations?
2.     How do I max out my cards production via the reaper miner? Optimal reaper settings for my rig.
3.   Why the High stale rate of 30-90%?
4.   Is crossfire possible?

Thanks for your help with this. Have many more questions but been up for days working on this rig .

I have practically the same setup - and have issues with the cards crashing too, how did you solve this in the end was it an issue with pushing the cards too hard or was a driver/compatibility issue.

PLEASE could you let me know your software setup - I am on windows 7 so preferable need a windows software requirements support.

Really appreciate it if you could advise me here.

Many thanks in advance

are you trying to sell your rigs?

my dual 6970's did about 700 per card peak with an average of around 281 mega hashes per gpu x 4 gpu's per cpu.

What is the hash rate did you get on each card?

I was able to make just around 650kh on each card with original BIOS.

My dual gpu cards work just fine following with centos (linux) guide in my signature.

Interesting topic... Do you guys have any updates?

How did you flash BIOS?

Also, do you have any info on the RED switch, how it suppose to work?

Thank you.

Yea, I've had problems from day one with 6 powercolor HD6870x2 which I believe is the same as yours, only the previous version.  I have been successful running multiple cards (3 x 2-gpu cards) in Centos, though newer versions only seem to allow 2 gpu at a time.  Here's what I'm working on https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/building-a-rock-solid-multi-gpu-linux-mining-rig-with-centos-60-170516

Now that I've re-read what AMD told you I'm going to dig up the older kernels and see where it all breaks.... wish me luck!

Lower your intensity, I have the 7850 and I just ordered 6 7950's.

With the 7850 I push only 350kh/s, at 15 intensity. When I push the intensity any higher I start getting GPU errors and a lot more stale shares. When I lower the intensity, I rarely get a stale share and never have GPU errors.

You don't want it heating up too much. I try to make sure my temp stays below 82*. usually around 74*. It's lowering your hashrate because you're overheating. When I first installed my 7850, I put it in a port that didn't get much airflow, it would hit 350Kh/s, and then heat up to 104* and drop to 60Kh/s.

You can try dummy plugs, but if it doesn't work, you may need to build a 2nd PC to run the other two cards.

Very few people have 7990's, so You need to mess around with the gpu_thread_concurrency to figure out whats the best for your card.

Update  Grin

Well I Have been able to push my 7990 via overclocking and Reaper/litecoin config files tweeks to as high as 550khs per 7970 gpu on the 7990's.

I am using MSI afterburning for the overclocking, Used software to disable UNLS but I am showing 2 monitors not 4 on windows 7, maybe I need dummy plugs? Do I? Will it help?

I have been able to acheive an extreme hashrate of 7,000+khs on 2 7990's but with 100% hardware errors using lookup_gap 0. Will the shares count? Is it bad for the GPU's? I installed a Fork but didnt really do much. I get Driver Rollbacks everytime I push it and High temps 90+ on the GPU's. Do I need WaterBlocks for stability?

1. Do I need dummy plugs with a disabled UNLS.
2. How do I solve Driver Roll-Back issues when pushing the limits?
3. Hardware errors on reaper with lookup_gap 0 is this ok?
4. reccomended temp for GPU's while mining? Do I need Waterblocks?
5. What is the best config file for highest hashrate via reaper with 7990's.

THanks you, Your help is always appreciated Smiley

Highest Hashrate acheived while stable with 0 stales & 0 HW error's 1,000 khs per 7990 card!

But shouldnt it be higher because it has 2 7970 gpus per card, 750khs per gpu instead of 500khs per Gpu?

well 1st off you need to give me a card  Cheesy
2nd off im not going to type alot so ill make it pretty quick what id do is stick 2 cards in with a crossfire bridge and just disable crossfire in the ati vision engine then id change to "guiminer scrypt alfa" easier to use nicer to look at and uses reaper. this will get 2 cards working if you want to try adding the other 2 cards add them and after the system installs the drivers they should be ready for use but if they dont show up in guiminer then youll need some dummy plugs to make the cards thibk they have screens attached to them
