Just prestige (and stackexchange privileges but that is more to protect the community).

Got a question about Bitcoin?  Want a definitive answer backed with cites to other references?

Checkout http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com

This really isn't a competitor to either Bitcointalk or the official wiki.  It is more a supporting resource.  Also it is a great way to spread awarness of Bitcoin.  Stackexchange answers tend to get linked and search engines like google put high emphasis on linking.  It is also a great resource to quickly refute some misconceptions about Bitcoin.  See something wrong about bitcoin on a blog, or article you can find a solution in the stackexchange and link to it.

We have some great questions already asked like:
How does the new version of Bitcoin client encrypt the wallet.dat file?
What options are there to combine mining over multiple computers?
Who runs www.bitcoin.org?
What can an attacker with 51% of hash power do?
What is a share?

and 427 more.

See any answers which are wrong (or could have better solution)?  Great add one.
Got a question that you have always wonder about (nor matter how technical or esoteric)? Please ask it.

The more questions, answers, and contributors we have the more valuable this resource becomes. Bitcoin.StackExchange.Com is curently in beta (day 54 of 90).  We are one of the more successful recent betas but we are a little short in two metrics that stack exchange uses to evaluate new sites:

  • We have about 400 visitors a day we would like to see that above 500 (1500 would be very good).
  • We have about 4 new questions per day we would like to see that above 5 (15 would be very good).

The good news is that 99% of questions get at least one positively reviewed answer and the average question gets 2.3 answers.
Response time is rather fast.  Most questions get one or more answer within 5 minutes.  Almost all have multiple answers within a day.

If you haven't check it out this great resource could use more traffic, more questions, and more contributors.  Like any stackexchange portal it is peer to peer in the sense that questions and answers are controlled, voted, and approved by the community.
