When I hear people talk about government all they focus on is the set of people who were either elected or appointed to fill up a particular office so as to over see the activity of  that state, community, province or nation. But in reality the government refers each and everyone one of us. This persons been elected into power only represent the masses. Most times the masses neglect this fact and as such we get manipulated on.

One will ask why will I refer to the masses as the government and I will give a straight forward response which is the aim of a government is to take responsibility and see that everything is been put in place and all lapses are covered and this responsibility still falls back to you and me. In our little sphere we put in our own little effort and contribute our quota to ensuring the where we reside is safe and conducive for everyone.

Whenever I see a thread and it's about government, the first thing that comes to my mind is that we are not in the same country, there are some countries where the citizens of the country are not worried about their government because the government has provided them with what they need and they did what a government should do for the citizen and there some countries where the citizen are regretting voting for their government because of the way they are been treated.

The government should understand that all the citizens depend on them and without their help the country will never progress, the government should understand that every citizen's responsibility including the ones that are not yet born is upon them, the government should understand that no matter what the citizens are the one that makes them be in the position where they are today, the government should not allow greediness to allow them to forget those who they promise to regret voting them.

We often know the term "Vox Populi, Vox Dei". While the government should take the concern of the majority of the people instead of the personal interest of the politicians. That's their main role but it's sad that it's common for most countries that there are politicians that don't listen and follow to the voice of the people. What they often do is to listen to their own will and do what benefits them.

This is a common practice by the corrupt government officials that instead of setting aside their political interest and personal benefits, they're not doing what they've been appointed to do. And that's to serve the public, and the funny thing is that the public is the one that serves them. The tax of the people goes straight to them and does allocation of budget on their own, at least to the countries that are underdeveloped.

The primary role of government is the protection of lives and property. This is because authority and power to enforce obedience on the citizenry has been given out to a few elected officials to manage the political atmosphere of the country inturn controlling other aspects of people's life in the country like the socioeconomy, technology and environment etc. These few elected people are expected to use the resources of the state including ammunition to ensure that rules and regulations are obeyed for the proper functioning of the society. So where laws and rules are not obeyed gives a signal to a failing state.

The government in carrying out her roles in the society would also ensure to maintain sovereignty of the country. In fact, sovereignty is one of the ways to know the government is upholding the independence of the country because they have to secure and maintain the territorial space of the country both in land, space or water bodies.

A working government would also ensure good life for the people by providing good business environment for investment both local and foreign investment which helps to increase GDP and increase standard of living.

It depends on which government and how it rules, for example, a regime in Russia that severely infringes on Russians.

The office of the citizen is one major aspect in governance because they are the one's saddled with the responsibility of telling the government what they want, also the citizens have a duty of living in peace and harmony so that whatever plans the government have in place for them will come into fulfilment. For me whatever that happens in governance space i sometimes want to blame it on the citizens because the leaders of any Government are drawn from the citizens(society), so hence the society is peaceful, trust me the that countries leadership will be exceptional in terms of performance. The citizens also have the power to hire and fire, so the government is always answerable to the citizens, so as much as the Government has a duty to fullfil, the same thing too applies to the members of the society.

The effectiveness and development of every nation all depends on a good leader. If the leader(government)  fail in there  responsibilities by discharging quality leadership it reflect negative on the nation. Therefore, it is 100% important to choose the right lead when voting because they play at least 80% role in the growth and development of any nation.

The government and its citizens have a role to play in a given society for its growth. The government can't do it alone without the help of its citizens. The government needs its citizens for a working system of governance to work, so will its citizens do the same ''need the government"

That's the reason why when a government is not rightly doing its duties as expected of them, the citizens complain bitterly that its government is not delivering on their duties to provide, protect, and govern their citizens as they ought to.

This is just the theory of social contract which is about the people surrendering their political, social cultural and some personal liberty to a few people who are organized into a political group and called government and for them to be responsible for their protection, to provide social amenities and environment that is conducive for their total living and growth, economically and otherwise.

Your comment is very important.  The government of every country works for the safety and security of the citizens in their country. Basically, the government plays an important role in the development of the country and society.  But not only the government but citizens also need to play a responsible and active role.  Every citizen needs to fulfill his responsibilities properly.  If everyone works for each other's welfare with the help of the government, then it is possible to build a strong and developed society with their combined efforts.

government was originally developed over the centuries to be representatives/mediators of a community. to aid in managing the overall public utilities that cant be managed individually by individuals

however government then set up policies and procedures to make it more difficult for the community to make requests of the government but instead allow the government alot more ease to make requests on the community

for instance, the communities method to request governmental change is via official petition submitted to the main governmental building. however a government tries to promote the community should not use the official petition route, and instead gather people around to shout and scream random desires in the street(protest) where the community are left thinking they are effecting change, but are instead just shouting to the air where the government cant see or hear them(if its not officiated on paper the government dont act)

even law enforcement has changed. we used to think that law enforcement would see a situation and then decide what is wrong on site and handle the issue, where their role is to the benefit of the community and to serve and protect the community. but these days they have the mindset to abuse their powers as they feel.. and if they are reported, their supervisor would 'back the blue' and if it went to court the judge would find them innocent by default due to implied 'immunity'
this means that even the police become corrupt and only want to help themselves rather then the community they suppose to serve and protect

The idea of government was to create an organized body that could well manage the common resource for the overall prosperity of the people and also protect the citizens from both internal a d external aggressions. But what were experiencing in contemporary governance is a practice away from the real aim of government creation.

Now people in government pursue personal intest as against the common interests and when the people that gave them the power try to revolt the government uses the military and other forces to bend the people to their knees it's nothing to be what Thomas Hobbes theorized about government and the people.

Governments should be responsible for the basic organization of society, so people wouldn't live in a complete anarchy where the toughest rule and win by usage of physical force and threats.

However, governments end becoming bigger and more determining on people's lives than it should be. And it's due to the fact a group of people who reach power use their influence and authority to create privileges for themselves, which are sponsored involuntarily by everyone else.

This model and concept of society we live is unfair because of that. However, instead of focusing on key points like this, people are distracted fighting by useless and subversive agendas. In fact, this is the central goal of such agendas: to get people distracted, so they don't think neither ocuppy their time with effective and logical solutions to make life fairer and happier.

the idea of creating a government that takes care of the resource of a group of people and in returns solve the problem of the people who appointed or elected them to take up those leadership position is a genuine one that ordinarily ought to be one of man's way of easily achieving most of her goals but unfortunately, we can't tell if such goal is met but rather, we set up a government that end up being more powerful that the people that gave them the right to take care of the resources they now manage by virtue of the position given to them by the people in the society.

if the government had done half of the role, she is supposed to be carrying out in the society, what is required of the citizens would be easily achieved. the issues is that the government have gotten power through the security agencies to ensure that the citizens pay taxes and stay obedient to the laws and of the society but when we flip the table and talk about the angle of the government doing what they are supposed to be doing like the provision of infrastructure, security of citizens, quality education and creation of job opportunity it becomes difficult to hold them accountable because they through the security and the money and power they have acquired through the position they occupy make use of it to protect themselves from the public access

The government should be responsible for the total wellbeing of its citizens. It should be ensure that the majority of the citizens could afford their basic needs and infrastructure. However, I never knew the importance of security until our country began to face a high rate of criminal activities. The rate of armed robbery, kidnapping, terrorism, and other violent was increasing in my country and I understood that no country can prosper in an insecure environment. Local businesses began to close down, tourists stopped visiting and many multinationals began to relocate to neighboring countries. Fear and intimidation became the order of the day and citizens became indirect prisoners since they could not move freely.

If the government can secure lives and properties, they have solved the most important problem. With peace and stability, any country will gradually develop. Our role as individuals in a country is to always perform our obligations which include paying of tax, assisting the police to fight crime, voting or being voted for in elections, serving in the armed forces, etc..

Government was set up primarily to govern a particular environment or society it is found in doing this it's empowered with the responsibility of protecting life and property in the society and create a good environment where business and other economic activities can take place and strives. It should be noted that individuals members of a society has a big role to play for them to be successful in any society so the best government can do is to make sure that her citizens are safe and secure then creating a good atmosphere where citizens Can engage in meaningful economic activities for the over all development of the society
