Yeah, Looks like Thejesh GN had written a script to scrape some news files and collate.
Not sure if there was more to it. I did take a quick peek at the code and thats what I was able to see. Not sure if there is more code pulling the lists.

Thejesh hangs out at CIS, not sure of his larger role, but have met him few times. Really nice guy and very brainy Smiley

Why bother, use a proxy or a vpn.
As for me, I still have my torrent Smiley
Government is taking actions on websites who support torrents and help in seeding them.i am constantly loosing games and piracy :/

The websites are hosted in some foreign countries, and I already have them blocked so can access only through Tor or VPN.
Technically torrents are blocked too but I use one of the clients which allows some encryption or spoofing or something. Long story short, no problems for me Smiley

Bans on Vimeo and daily motion have been lifted.
These are usually short timed bans.
I think these were done for the benefit of the people and I simply support them.

Benson I think that you are worrying too much. The bans will soon be lifted.

Not worried too much about the ban or access mate. Proxies, VPN's, etc are solutions to this problem.

While I do support some forms of censorship which are beneficial to people, The person censoring has to be very careful as this is a delicate matter. Why not just block the offending URL's if it was a temporary ban? The response they gave was that blocking the URL will not prevent people from moving to a different one. So, how does blocking the website help? Won't people just move to a different, better one?

I assume that in the long run, we will lose millions of dollars in terms of Software Export, as some companies may just switch off to the Idea of outsourcing to a country that has censorship issues.

What polynesia mentioned is correct, we jeer when  youtube or twitter gets blocked in some country, but are complacent when it happens here.

What happens if tomorrow, GOI decides to Block FB? Or AWS? Or what if a China Firewall is slowly building up in India as well?
These are issues that have to be prevented. The complacency shown by everyone during this debacle, more or less shows that India does want a censored internet and that is a wee bit sad.

As usual, somebody will go to court and get this nonsense kicked out.

I was under the impression that an overruling will be alright, but its not.

Brand Damage has been done. For the next several years, people will talk about how India shut down some crap. Every newspaper in Jamaica will carry India as an example if this were to happen in their country. Next, Egypt will censor some more and some press in East Burma will print an article saying 'Just Like India'. We have given birth to the 21st century stereotype with this move.

Check my twitter timeline during this event, you will see a comment from someone about what i mentioned above.

A show of power maybe?
I mean, github?? really?? lol. That one sucked for me.
95% of the Indian IT industry relies on github.. Smiley

True. We snigger when youtube is blocked in Pakistan and then this happens in our own country.
The only time I felt more despair was when Arindam Chaudhary managed to get UGC's website blocked.  Grin

This is too little too late. They need to ban the root of all such problems.. Internet, or maybe electricity.

Crazy Shit!  Undecided

I think Benson you are involved with CIS. So, you might have known Pranesh Prakash, who first publicly raised the concern...

Yep, he guided me a lot during the initial days of Bitcoin, etc.
Shocking to see something like this happen.
