I'll double the recommendation for a 270. You might be able to pick up used ones for ~$125. Make sure your PSU can handle it, though.

I have a nice Antec power supply. Got it for free. I pick up computer parts like that here and there, free or really cheap.

"Megatower 2000" is long overdue for an overhaul (it's not my main use box currently). Originally built in 2000 (I had a decent amount of $ saved, ohhh the system I could build now for what it cost!) as a super fast Pentium III in a 12 bay case, the case is all that's left of the original build. Currently has a dual core Socket 939 Athlon, 2.5 gig DDR1 and around 0.75TB total storage in six hard drives.

The 9800 GT card was in MT2000 but it never worked right, random freezes, apparently it just isn't quite 100% backwards sympatico with PCIe 1.0. Been months since I used the old thing, grabbed the GT card to replace the even older 512 meg ATi 4200 HD Pro card that was in the box I'm using right now.

I've kicked myself for not doing that much much sooner when the 9800 GT would have been usable in the early days of Bitcoin.

Are you using cudaminer? 20kH/s seems a little low.

Yes, here's the results I get with cudaminer.exe -H 1 -i 0 -l auto -C 1 -o. System specs: PCIe x16 nVidia GeForce 9800 GT with 1 gig RAM on Win XP with 3.25 gig DDR2 RAM. CPU AMD Phenom II 550 AM3 on an AM2+ board.

I have another motherboard that's socket AM3, with two x16 slots though the secondary is only x8 connected (why does any company even do that?). I need to get some DDR3 RAM for it then I can swap the Phenom II chip to it, unlock it to quad core. If I get a better ATi card I'd have to have a small XP install to mine with both cards thanks to Microsoft's 'brilliant' idea to limit Vista, 7 and 8 to only being able to use one video driver. Or do those versions of Windows choke if two different brands of card are plugged in? Seems like a downgrade... (along with all the other useful features removed!)

They are somewhat above $100, but consider an ATI/AMD 7850 or R9-270 videocard. They allow 350 to 470 Kh/s compared to your 20.

Perhaps you could get an used card, like a 5850, 5870 or 6950. You may find them for $100 or less, and they also allow 400 to 500 Kh/s

My 9800 GT does around 20 khash. Pitiful I know, but have around 800 D with it so far. I'd like to kick it up a bit without getting ridiculous on price for a better video card.

What's atop the list for $100 or less? Brand doesn't matter.
