Thanks all Smiley. Now the only question I have left would be if there was a deal going on a 7970 or on a 7950 (and at that point I would like the link please)

1. The 7900 series cards can go anywhere from $300-500 on ebay and the price should be the same over in the computer hardware marketplace on the forums.

2. Newegg.com or from someone on the forums.

3. CPU shouldn't matter, ideally if you're building multiple rigs you would want a CPU that draws the least amount of power from the PSU, for litecoin mining this is different.

4. I personally used to mine with a bootable usb stick to debian/ubuntu to save money.

5. You can never go wrong with something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157358

6. Ideally you want a PSU with the highest power efficiency and to be 'Full Modular', you should be able to undervolt the cards too which should make it possible to run it on a 1200 Watt PSU.

7. RAM doesn't really effect bitcoin mining at all, generally you just need the basic 2gb but when mining litecoins you should try to have the most amount of RAM especially with a multi card setup.

8. You can try using an open case setup but you should be able to keep the cards at a stable temperature with the fans running at 80-100%.

9. Don't store the rigs in your bedroom, last summer when I had 2 rigs running 24/7 my room would get so hot that I couldn't sleep in there. Also you should look into FPGA/ASIC mining unless you plan on mining litecoins or if you don't care about turning a profit/have low rates on power.

Hello all,
I have been in the field of computers for some time now and am thinking about building a mining rig (in the past I have built computers, but never for mining a cryptocurrency of some form). As such, I have a few questions (I know my questions are numerous, I would appreciate any feedback you have time for Cheesy):

1) Only in terms of graphics cards, what is the best deal out there for a 7970/7950? It is also beneficial if it comes with games because I presume I can sell those on ebay to make some of the money back. So what I am really asking is: what is the best deal on a 7970/7950 after its respective games are sold?

2) Where can I buy a good case?

3) Any processor recommendations for mining?

4) Any drive (SSD/HDD/HSSD) recommendations for mining?

5) What is the best deal on a good motherboard for mining?

6) What is the best deal on a good power supply (thinking about having 4 7970s perhaps so it would need to supply 1300 watts or so)?

7) I presume 8gb of DDR3 RAM is an ideal amount, right? Is 16GB any better for mining?

8 ) What type of fans/cooling do you recommend because I presume since the cards run all day and night, they get extremely hot?

9) Is there anything else important I should know for building a mining rig?

Thanks so much and I appreciate any and all answers given Smiley. Sorry for my noobish questions
