I have a Gblade ive been running for few day it seems to run way cooler using these two fans and is nice and quit by that i mean the room i have miner in with those fans at full speed you can't hear unless you listen hard.

NO stock fans to loud for me, those two fans are plugged into the PSU .

I sty like this all most all the time , that temp is not the miner temp it is the PI. i can Polly use my fish tank temperature thing to find out the temps inside the miner but I see no need sense those two fan are moving cool or warm air not hot at all .Just make sure the fans you use are pulling air thu it, it won't matter what side they are on back or front the air just has to move thu it not sty inside . or you might burn out a board or two like i did at first , I  was able to replace two boards off ebay.

my setting are

I removed the 3 stock fans and mounted 2 high flow 120mm on backside in the case and have teh unit on a shelf venting directly out the window. The air it puts out is cool with barely any warmth to it. I also run it at 27mh/s setting so after 3 months like this I would say it works just fine. Oh, I have the fans powered via the 4 pin molex style connector straight to psu. Not even sure there is a onboard hookup but just a note in case there is. Also this is an exceptionally quiet setup.

My GBlacks, Blades and Zeus Lightening all definitely run MUCH more reliably when cool...
But the stock fans are just a cheap afterthought.. and barely adequate.

Even if you improve the internal fans...
Hot air will accumulate in the area anyway... everything heats up from the exhaust.

So I bought these powerful 20" external fans (only $25 each)...
And set everything up on shelving near a window.

I have one 20" fan installed in the window PULLING the hot air outside...
And two 20" fans that sandwich the miners... PUSHING the air toward the window.
And a 4th fan in a 2nd window pulling in cold air to complete the circular ventilation system.

The total noise is an acceptable hum... I don't notice it anymore.  

I used nocuta's but you needed a fan control since the pins did not match.  I had 14 blades for a while but I
went back to btc.

I used the atx psu to a fan controller and ran these.  If you are in the usa and want them I think I have them in my attic. shoot me a pm

Where do you measure your temps from? I have some 120's for mine but after getting them I dont think they will move enough air at 45CFM each. I plan to try them out tonight tho and see what I get.

K I looked into what I had done, I wish I had pictures, sorry I didn't bother taking any when I had them. I outfitted them with 3 Sunon ME80251V1-000U-A99 80mm*25mm fans at the back and front. I believe they were direct replacements to the stock fans, but I can't guarantee that as this was a couple months back, I tend to mod a lot of things I have(way to curious for my own good). What I do remember is that they were a little quieter but not whisper. the datasheet claims 33 decibels, but I would argue that for real world application. These were 41CFM 3200RPM fans at $6 CAD from DIGIkey. (I'm from Alberta so DIGIKEY is like the Canadian Mouser.com) My suggestion would be if you were to go for more silent operation, I'd look for something like the ME80251V3-000U-A99. I couldn't give you comparables as this would take some research and sorry to say, I'm more just trying to give a little advice, not source out parts. But basically what I'd suggest is any fan that is a 2 wire, under 30 dBa and same size as the stock. this process will require a little soldering and drilling but they will run probably quieter then you computer that your currently on! I can offer a little more advice if you have any questions. Another option would be case fans as these are consumer quality fans, quiet profile, but you will pay a premium (Some up to $30 a fan).

I'm using 2 120mm antec three speed fans on medium exhausting out the rear for mine, they stay cool enough.  Watch your power consumption with a killawatt, if you see it creeping up by more than 10w or so over time it's getting too hot.  Also, ambient on mine are between 70-75F, any hotter than that and those fans aren't really sufficient.

I can't remember offhand, but I'll check when I get home as to what I used when I was running these units. Also I'll check what they got at mouser maybe give you a suggestion or two.

From my knowledge and experience, I wouldn't remove the fans. The orbs only have 5 chips which never ran very hot to begin with and the power delivery on the psb for the orbs was a lot stronger then in these gblacks. Without adequate cooling the power delivery on the PSU's WILL burn up. If you are thinking about modifying the cases, my suggestion would be to use lower cfm fans in the front to pull the air in and 2-3 fans in the back to pull the air out of the case. This creates a push pull affect similar to the antminer s3's. It's not ideal for this type of case but it will provide adequate cooling for the chips and the power psb at stock frequencies. I'd look for minimum 1800 rpm fans, if you do the push/pull otherwise it's best to leave as is. Old saying goes if it ain't broke don't fix it.

A while back I've read those using a Gridseed ORB were able to remove the fan while running in scrypt mode.

I currently got a G-Black 23MH/s and I'm curious if I could disable the case fans or even replace them with much quieter fans to reduce noise. I want to possibly move it from the garage to the house but it needs to run quiet for the wife to allow it
