I really understand your plight man, the merit of a thing will affect many newbie that really want to grow and learn about this crypto, you can just expect a newbie that is just learning and serious to have merit... With this newly introduced system, many wont be able to grow their rank..
Who cares?  If you're just here to "grow and learn about this crypto", then you can do so without ever getting a single merit.  In fact, you could learn everything there is to know about bitcoin without ever posting here.

But we all know that the main reason people come here is because "a friend" told them they can earn money by posting/translating/tweeting/Facebook posting, right?  None of these pajeets come right out and say it, but that's the reason.  In that case, hopefully you can earn your merits on the local boards.  The people in those sections really need to become merit sources so they can keep members away from the English section.

If your knowledge of English isn't good, you don't have any chance of earning merit here.  This has been discussed in other threads, and it's becoming tiresome.  If you want to know about merit, just read some of the threads in meta.  They're all over the place.

Because the OP is new, Let me tell you this, this merit system, is also new in this forum, I think it just started around January, so most people here, even high-rank member who is not active is not used to this system as well, Well anyway, as of the moment, you don't really need this merit system because your only a newbie, when you reach JR. Member, you will be needing this merit in order to rank up to Member status.
As a beginner to this, you should try to study the system first, read some of the topics here so you can say some informative things to other members.
Welcome to the community.

i'm not in agreement with the new system of ranking simply for this reason , even if your post is of a high quality what assurances are there that another member will read and say hey let me give this person some merit points , this is too "open" id understand if there was some sort of administrator who would allocate merit points rather than leaving it up to fellow members to give merit points , there are so many members and a lot of post on various threads how many of us actually read through all of these post , i don't think anyone does and so some post which are of a high quality will fall through the cracks, that is posts which deserve merits arnt read and the member will be short changed  , obviously this system will present serious issues and problems however it might achieve its objectives mostly through frustration though.

There is no denying that during the eatly months, its easier to rank up an account. But due to ever growing number of participants in the furom, the dev decided to make some new regulation and now ranking up requires new requirement. Though it happened, the older member have also go through the process. Anotger thing is that, this forum is not just for you to gain airdrop, this forum is primarily used on orienting holders or investors to what kind od project is promising anf has good potential. Drops arr just a bunos but not the main motivation to join here.

face-off

You are right about the main purpose of the boards. It is to learn from each other and not just simply get airdrops. However, it is because of the onion airdrop that I have arrived at this forum. Im glad that I did, because I will defiantly be hanging around this community to learn as much as possible. I'm not the kind person who is here to simply look for handouts. I am here to learn and help the crypto world grow into its yet undiscovered potential. I will add this...I am currently a student studying computer science and have yet to decide my focus of study. The more I become involved in the crypto world, the more I'm considering going into blockchain technologies.

Hi everyone,
I'd like to preface this post by saying, Im not begging for anything. Im just looking to start a discussion about possible membership reform. I have read the newbie forum posts and understand the system that is in place.

I am fairly new to cryptocurrency, so Ive got a lot to learn. I have however been using the TOR browser for quite some time, and believe in its value. That is why I  am interested in the ONION coin airdrops. I do realize that there are specific requirements that need to be fulfilled to be eligible for the drops. However, for someone who is new to crypto and is still learning; the required steps to gain merits on this board seem a little steep. I would love to be part of this growing community and to contribute to the discussions; but because I am new, I have not gained the knowledge to respond in an educated manner to many of the posts. Therefore I'm not going to put some bullshit up there just so I can gain merits. There needs to be a better way to do this. If the purpose of a community like this is to educate and ramp up support for what we believe in; then it makes more sense to try to be a little more inclusive of the new members.

just my two cents because I want to play too

thank you for any responses

The merit system is applied to the forum so that the manipulation of the forum from the low-quality posters will stop and all the serious posters will get proper levels. To reach next level you need merits and gaining them is not an easy process. You need to attract others attention to your posts and if the person finds your post useful for others or him he will merit you. For some people, this is just a piece of the shit system which proves nothing but it is a very effective way to maintain the forum content quality and give chances to skilled peoples.

I think this system will make a huge difference. You can also check all the calculations about the merit system in the meta board.
The merit system is like the Operant Conditioning of B.F. Skinner wherein there is reinforcement in every post that a user did. Merit serves as reinforcement in order for a user to make a valuable content. So, for us to gain merit, we need to make a senseful post where the members of the forum will be satisfied.
Now, as we can see, the improvement of posts are slowly develop. Time by time, all non-sense post will put in trash and the useful context will remain. It is good to have merit system, for us to learn more and to filter those spammer of the forum.

the first thing you should do is respond to the messages in this forum to level up to let you enter to deeponion also I understand that with the purchase of 100 onion give you access to the launches from the air I think you have to be junior You can enter aya and do many of the tasks that place you to accumulate points that you give them onion and for others you have to be a member if you can not, so to write you have to make an effort friend is not as easy as you think

I think your complaints should be directed at the DeepOnion developers, and not this forum. Why do they make it so difficult, and why to they require you to display their advertising?

...  I would love to be part of this growing community and to contribute to the discussions; but because I am new, I have not gained the knowledge to respond in an educated manner to many of the posts.

The merit system has no effect on your ability to be part of the community and to contribute to the discussions.

The basic concept that I understand is that there are varying levels of membership in the board. In order to move up levels, you must collect merits. As one graduates up through the levels they gain additional rights and access on the board. Merits are given out in a couple of different ways. The most general way to gain merits is based the amount of the that you are logged into the site. Those merits are given out at specified time frames and are based on log in time. The second way to gain merits is by posting on the boards. You do not get merits automatically by posting. They must be given by those who already have merits. Once merits are given away to another person, they are subtracted from the balance of the person giving them. Merits are given for posts based on the value that the post adds to the discussion.

Simply put.. those who have the power must share it with those who seem worthy.

There is one other way...Ive seen some members offering merits to newbies for completing tasks. For the most part, the offers I have seen require crazy amounts of work and posting. Seems a bit excessive imo.

the merit system is a very good idea. It definitely helps maintain the validity of the information that is being shared. It just needs to be adjusted a bit so that it they are more attainable.

Well, I have already been in here for quite some time now, Although I have only been very active for the last months of 2017 last year because I thought cryptos were scams and all that sht and that I was to busy to be mingling around with scams. Which I really have great regrets on. But even so, I really think that I am still an early adapter and can still be able to take good benefits of being active here from now on. And this forum really has been a very great source of valuable information and a great source of small income to play with in trading until I get to master it and do invest real money in it. And to be honest, obvious spamming of post that are completely thoughtless, hard to understand and even copy pasted has really become a very big problem for this forum. And I really do think that in this way, it will slowly recover since it will require a huge effort to get merits, which can get you to a higher rank here in this forum that obviously has better benefits than your last rank, It was really a great idea to have a merit system like this.
