a pair of cards set for about 65-70% tdp with 75-85% fans mining zec work well

This case can do 2 1080 ti founders at 165 watts
and 1 msi 1070 itx at 100 watts

no overheating.

please link you card as you say it is a 1080 not a 1080 ti some of them have a shitty design and don't cool well

thanks however it happens when it is operating on lowest tdp which is 90w, the highest is i think it was around 180w. At 90w, it still shut down.
The FE version was more attractive than ROG version because it was more efficient at lower power:
FE @ 90w: > 4 hash/w
ROG @ 120w < 4 hash/w.
So I went ahead and buy 4 of them and two of 'em are still in shipment, if the heat issue can not be solved, perhaps, will consider selling it back.

I woild look at yoir windows error log to see why it shut off. Also im not sure about the fan placement. It may or may not be connexted to the plastic case. But it is designed to blow through the heatsink so removing the case probably wouldnt help too much unless you had other fansnin close proximity to the gpu heatsink

ok you are saying removing the cover will equate to removing the fan also? Is it not possible to keep the fan?MAn that would suck. I took several measurements including the power limit to lowest and put a large fan next to both of them (i setup two), it seems to work longer this time and then suddenly caused pc to shut off.

The heatsinks for blower-style cards are usually optimized for blowing air from the "rear" of the card out to the edge with the video output. This makes them desirable for multiple cards in an enclosed environment, as they can actually help expel hot air from the inside of the case. However, for single-card systems or for systems in an open environment, blower cards usually aren't the best for cooling.

That heatsink design might make it slightly more difficult for you to come up with an effective solution simply by removing the stock fan and replacing it with another fan, but you could try. (1080s are quite power-hungry cards, so keep a very close eye on temperatures, and ensure that your cooling solution, even if it performs well, would be stable for 24/7 operation.)

Temps could cause it to shut down. The blower stules cards are not very good for minibg because of the temperature issue. Youneed to put them somewhwre cool or provide alot of airflow to keep them cool. Running the gpu fan at 100% would ruin the fan bearing pretty quickly. Also you could take the shroud off but not sure if having the fan unplugged would even let it work.

i have gtx1080 from msi and runs pretty good during mining. i also recently tried gtx1080 founders edition after purchasing it online and noticed it runs much hotter somewhere around 15-20c and close to 80c when mining. I think that is understandable as gtx1080 rog has 3 fans and looks pretty exposed whereas the FE looks very enclose with tiny hole at two end of the card. Along the length of the card, it is pretty much enclosed. I am thinking about taking this care off and just run without cover and place a fan nearb. Has anyone dont it? Will i break something by doing so?

Now today, I got two of them side by side in pciex16 slot and after about an hour or so, the whole system shuts down.
Not sure why if video card temperature can tell the system to shut down.
